About the property

Bear Valley is a wonderful mountain resort in the High Sierras between Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. The village is located on the all weather highway 4; known as the Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway. The area offers a variety of activities from snowshoeing, skiing, and snowmobiling in the winter, to hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, and fishing in the summer. We are surrounded by the Carson Iceberg and Mokelumne Wilderness areas which are known as the Alps of California. We have our own lake in Bear Valley and there are several other granite lined lakes within a few driving miles of the village.

Our beautiful cedar log cabin has a small deck in front and a large deck in the rear where you can entertain, cook on the bar-b-que, or have a relaxing breakfast while you watch the wildflowers grow in the meadow. The large living-room has a wood burning stove, flat-screen HDTV with satellite dish, DVD & CD players, jukebox loaded with lots of music, and lots of books to read. The dining room seats 10 with table extensions. The modern kitchen has all large and small appliances including dishwasher and trash compactor. The 'guest room' has queen bed, separate bath, and small wood stove. 'Master bedroom' has queen bed, 3rd bedroom has two bunk beds and twin trundle bed (that makes into a king), and 4th bedroom has a double futon. The cabin can be heated with the forced air central heater or the wood burning stoves.

The surrounding area is a mecca for mountain biking, four-wheeling, hiking, swimming, and fly fishing. The air is clear and the sky a bright blue at 7000 feet. The small village of Bear Valley has restaurants, bike, kayak, ski, & snowmobile rentals, and a small general store. Lake Alpine Lodge, three miles up the road has outdoor dining on the deck, a store, and kayak, canoe, and boat rentals on Lake Alpine.

In the winter you can take the bus two miles up to Bear Valley Ski Resort and ski right back to the cabin at the end of the day. Snowmobile rentals take you on the groomed road into the beautiful back country. The second largest (in California) cross country ski park is just a walk across highway 4 from the village.

Bear Valley is located at 7,200 ft. on highway 4 about 35 miles up the mountain from the Gold Rush towns of Angels Camp and Murphys. It is an easy, (and) short drive to both Yosemite and Lake Tahoe from Bear Valley. The village is surrounded by national forest and wilderness areas. Check these sites for information on the area:

Super Cozy with everything you need

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to bond with our new granddaughter and rented this cabin for a week. Its super comfy and cozy and has everything you need to make your stay like home. Its fully equipped with dishes, pots, pans, washer, dryer, towels, blankets...I mean everything. There's even a basket that contains all kinds of info for things to do and see around the area. There is a store nearby that has essentials but if you need groceries its 30 minutes away so its a good idea to have everything you need you when you arrive. I loved the family photos on the walls where each frame was dated so you can see how the owners started bringing their children there in the early 90's and are now bringing their grandchildren. Very sweet. Gary and Jeri are very kind people and really set up the cabin with easy to follow instructions. I really want to come back when it snows cause the area is beautiful!! Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful log cabin!

Great cabin in the mountains

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is wonderful! It is clean and inviting. We had a delightful time while attending the Bear Valley Music Festival. We enjoyed the location as it was easy to walk to the tent for the concerts. It is very comfortable to hang out in the living room and play games or relax on the deck over looking the big pine trees. The kitchen is well equipped with lots of pots, pans and utensils. There are plenty of dishes, flatware and glasses. The bathrooms have mini soaps, shampoos and conditioners and there are lots of towels for a gang. The instructions are very clear for opening and closing the cabin. Gary was super helpful during the booking process and accommodating with key pick up and return.

We had a wonderful stay! The cabin was perfect for our cozy, relaxing weekend in the mountains. The deck overlooking the meadow was great for morning coffee, dining, and playing cards. The cabin is full of everything we needed and it is so organized.

Lovely stay at this well-situated and well-equipped cabin...wildflower meadow, birds and butterflies! The owners are a pleasure to deal with (and that is IMPORTANT).

In the Snowingly Snowy Snow

  • 5 of 5

So cozy! My husband booked this cozy cabin -- a fully stocked house feeling like a comfy home -- for our getaway with his siblings and our mostly grown kiddoes. It was one snowy weekend - lovely! We didn't arrange for the snowmobile service to help get our stuff up the hill from the parking lot, but we truly had fun pulling our things up there on a sled ourselves as the thick snow gently fell all round us. Grand adventure! (We did arrange for the service the day we left the cabin, however.) The home easily fit all of us comfortably, and with it being fully stocked we had everything we needed to prepare our own meals and everything. I loved traipsing around in the snow and following fox tracks with my niece. The owner is very kind, helpful and available as well. So, what a lovely family time in a snug cocoon of a mountain home!

In the winter the roads in the sub-division are packed and groomed rather than plowed. you can ski, snowshoe, or walk anywhere in the sub-division without fear of automobiles. You must park in a parking lot which is plowed and take over-the-snow transport to the cabins. Our cabin is close enough to the plowed parking lots that you can walk to it, get the sleds on the front porch and bring in your belonging that way. When you rent you will also be supplied with a list of the folks who do over-the-snow transport if you choose to go that route.
