The French Quarter is also known as the 'Vieux Carré' witch means 'Old Square' in French. It has been the center of New Orleans since the city was founded.
The French Quarter area was the first land settled in the New Orleans area because it was the highest elevation available. That elevation saved the Quarter from the devastating flooding caused by Hurricane Katrina.
A fire in 1788 and another in 1794 burned most of the French-built properties, and reconstruction was accomplished under the rule of Spain. To this day, architecture in the Quarter retains a strong Spanish influence.
In the late 1800's and the first half of the 1900's, the Quarter was less fashionable than today and housed many new immigrants drawn by low rents.
The later decades of the 1900's saw a revival of the neighborhood due to historical renovation, the 1984 World's Fair and development of the area for tourism.

About Cathy Davis
I live in Las Vegas, Nevada with my wife, Cathy. I have always loved the French Quarter. There is no other place like it in the United States that equals the food, the entertainment and... of course the history. I have been vacationing in the French Quarter for over 40 years and can't seen to get enough.
Cathy Davis purchased this Condo in 2013
Why Cathy Davis chose Vieux Carre District

Perfect location,charming historical building
I've stayed at the property more than once and the owners are extremely helpful and friendly. The location is perfect,2 streets away from Bourbon with literally everything in walking distance. Will stay again!
It was OK
We chose this place for its location and the fact that it had an extra bed for our son. The bedroom is on the street. There is a wall between your head and people walking by. It's also next to the gate that enters the property. So if people slamming the gate at night or people yelling on the sidewalk while you are sleeping isn't a problem, book this place. Another issue we had was the windows are painted shut. You can't open the shutters or door in the front of the house or the window in the back of the place. So it's dark. Which is great at night but a little rough during the day. Again, that might not be a problem for others. I also think this place could have been cleaner. The reason I still gave it four stars, is the owners can't control people talking on the street or even others allowing the security gate to slam. They even have a sign that asks people to not slam it but they do anyway. The location can't be beat and the owners are very kind and nice to deal with.
My girlfriend and I recently stayed here and the previous reviews were very accurate, it really is larger than it appears in the pictures. Very clean, very comfortable, and a fantastic location. I play the saxophone so I really enjoyed the musical instrument decor. Cathy was very patient with us when we called late at night because we lost our keys, we ended up finding them shortly after. One suggestion made by my girlfriend would be to include a full length mirror, other than that it was perfect. If we every find ourselves in New Orleans again we will 100% for sure rent this condo again.
The owners were really nice and responded promptly to my inquiries. They provided me with resources to help me navigate through the city. The property itself was great! It was comfy, enchanting, clean, stocked with everything I needed and the location couldn't be more perfect. Most of all I felt safe! I was able to create some amazing memories! I would certainly recommend!
LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION!!
We stayed at this fantastic condo for close to 2 weeks! As stated in prior reviews, the location is close to everything and yet far enough away from the noisy Bourbon Street (2 blocks?) We walked everywhere as it is truly close to the waterfront, Frenchmans’ Street, Trolley Cars, Casino…. Just everything! Should you need to shop, Walmart is a short Uber ride away for your groceries. Although we only used the kitchen for breakfast and evening snacks, it is completely stocked with anything you would need.
Towels were plentiful and plush! And the beds very comfortable. The bedroom does tend to get noisy some nights; The fan cuts out all sound. The con on this condo is the lighting, as the only shutters you would open would be the ones to the private courtyard. As we were out everyday, all day, this didn’t bother us too much.
The patio table is a nice touch as we did sit out most nights.
Bugs?? You would expect bugs in such a tropically climate! Only critter we heard (and didn’t see) was a cricket!
Cathy was amazing with responding to any text/email we had.
I would definitely stay here again or any other place Cathy has.
Perfect location in the Quarter!
We spent Spring Break in this condo with our two sons, and thoroughly enjoyed our NOLA vacation. You couldn't ask for a better location. We never had to use our car the whole week, and parked it right behind the condo in a paid parking off Conti. Everything is within walking distance, or a short Uber, bike taxi, or streetcar ride, if you get tired of walking. Mr. and Mrs. Williams were a pleasure to work with, and upon our arrival, we could tell that they had thoroughly updated this condo and turned it into a very inviting and cozy spot. We tend to rent condos for all our vacations so we can cook a few meals on our own, and do laundry. We've made the circuit of rentals from Destin, FL to Branson, MO. The things that really stood out with this property were the comfortable beds, abundant towels, and the fact that toilet paper, dish soap, and cleaning supplies were provided .... which is unusual in most rentals. You are far enough away from the noise of Bourbon street here, but Burgundy still gets a lot of traffic. So, if you are a light sleeper, just move the box fan into the bedroom, and it will drown out all the noise. Really loved this place, and hope to come back.
