About Steve Passey

We love the beauty of the New River Gorge, the plethora of outdoor adventure choices in the area, and hiking the miles of trails. We most enjoy bringing our three little girls here for 'woods walking'.

Steve Passey purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Steve Passey chose West Virginia

We named this property after a nearby trail, the Kaymoor Trail. The two parts of the trail together make for a vigorous hike - especially if you choose to take the 810 steps to the bottom of the mine (and then have to take that same 810 steps back up!).

As far as the location of the home, we've visited the area a number of times and love the small town of Fayetteville, white water rafting, zip-lining, and especially hiking - the fact that we can go for a hike by walking out our front door and be at an NPS trail is the best!

This house is great for 2 families, and this property is close to the white water rafting and zip-lining. And if jumping off a bridge is your thing, or if you want to just watch the other crazy people, you'll get a great view from the neighborhood overlook.

Enjoy the quite back yard, grill out, and eat on the spacious back deck.

What makes this cabin unique

Hiking trails in the neighborhood, designed for two families (basement to be finished, but we don't know when yet). Short drive to white water rafting & zip-lining. Watch bridge day from the neighborhood.

I can't wait to sit on the front porch and enjoy the nature and feeling like I'm in a treehouse.

I love to cook, so I'm working on getting all those little things to make the kitchen highly functional when you're away from yours. Haven't figured out how to get the kitchen to clean itself though.

The furniture is an eclectic mix. Some of the furniture is antique, and some we've made reusing wood palates - we hope you'll enjoy the rustic touches.

Perfect, Secluded Fayetteville Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This home is tucked away in what is probably one of the more exclusive neighborhoods in Fayetteville. You're conveniently located near all of the necessary amenities, but still given plenty of privacy. The nearby trails make hikes to captivating views of the New River Gorge easy.

The house itself is in perfect condition and the owners are responsive. The hot tub & fire pit make for viable options for those who might not be so adventurous (or in the event of bad weather). There was wood available in the driveway for the fire pit.

There is an abundance of activities in the area, all between 10-30 minutes away. White water rafting, hiking, water parks, and paintball are just a few of the options. While I'd recommend this home and Fayetteville to anyone, this place best serves the interests of active people who aren't afraid to get a little dirty (or wet).

There are some great food/nightlife options in the area also. Rendezvous offered great live music. Pies and Pints was a great place to grab some food.

In terms of home quality and location, I'd rate this as one of the best experiences I've had while travelling (and I travel quite a bit).

Cheers,

Justin

PERFECT LOCATION

  • 4 of 5

Our family of 7 stayed at the Kaymoor House for 4 nights in early August. It is a very nice, clean, newer home in a wooded setting. There are other homes in the neighborhood, but we hardly ever saw any other people... we felt safe, but there was plenty of privacy while sitting on the nice big front porch and back deck. There was also plenty of living space and bed space for our group. We enjoyed having the chairs for the fire pit already provided so we didn't have to travel with them... bring some firewood if you plan to build a fire. As per most rental homes, bring a sharp knife and a good non-stick pan if you plan to do any of your own cooking. Most of the basic cookwares are furnished, however, along with coffee filters for the coffee maker. There were limited starter supplies for most paper products (toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, dish soap, plastic wrap, etc.), so I would suggest bringing all of your own. We were 9 easy miles from the Adventures on the Gorge facility where we rafted the Canyon Rim Lower New River and enjoyed the Treetops Canopy Tour (the food at the bar/restaurant at Adv. on the Gorge was surprisingly very good!!). We also did some hiking that was within a few miles from the house that included a beautiful view of the New River Bridge. We did not hike on the neighborhood property. We were also about 3 miles from the town of Fayetteville where there are a few non-chain restaurants (Pies & Pints was very good). We didn't explore the town any further, but it appeared there were a few shops to browse through if one is so inclined. There are grocery/pharmacy/fast food/hardware stores about 10 minutes away. This home is truly in a perfect location to enjoy all that this area of WV has to offer. The owners were very responsive with any questions we had. One last tip... keep the trash can closed tightly... the local beer still got into the trash can with the straps still secured!!

Beautiful property and home!

  • 5 of 5

The home was comfortable and well kept. Kitchen was well stocked with the cooking items you would need, plenty of towels and pillows. We enjoyed our stay completely!

Owners were very responsive when we had an issue with the trash due to a bear. Bear turned out to be a very well behaved visitor!

The development that this home is in has THE best view of the New River Gorge Bridge.

Nice Cabin in a convenient location to all the fun

  • 5 of 5

The Kaymoor House is a high-quality cabin in a very nice neighborhood, just a quick 3-5 min drive to Fayetteville and the restaurants and a short 5-10 min drive to the rafting companies and the AOG resort. The first floor master suite and large kitchen were the highlights for us. We enjoyed walking in the upscale, gated community and always felt comfortable and relaxed with the quiet atmosphere. We will likely return if our vacation plans bring us back to the area.
