CLASSIC BEACH HOUSE - ONE BLOCK FROM BEACH next to Boulineau's grocery & variety

Sleeps15
Bedrooms 5
Bathrooms3
Space 1,800 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

Overview

About the property

Built is 1952 - Acquired from original owners four years ago

THE GALLERY has five bedrooms and is ideal and priced to attract groups of twelve (12) But Will Accommodate (BWA) fifteen (15). Much of the house looks similar to when it was built but of course conveniences like indoor pluming, central air, flat screen TVs, kitchen appliances and many other things have been added. Some things like insulation in the walls and ceiling cannot be seen but add to the comfort and livability of the house.

You enter the UPPER LEVEL from a recently-added deck and into the large porch shown in Photos. From there you will enter to find:

• Large family room with 50” flat screen with internet

• Kitchen with modern appliances

• Full Bath with tub and overhead shower

• Master Bedroom with a Queen and Single beds with TV

• Second Bedroom with a Double and Single bed TV

You enter the LOWER LEVEL living room through a sliding glass door on the right side of the house. Upon entering you will find two small bedrooms with either a single bed or futon. In addition, there two other bedrooms, kitchen and two full bathrooms with showers.

•MORE AMENITIES - LOWER LEVEL AND OUTSIDE

Laundry Room, Screen Porch, Patio and Enclosed Outdoor Showers

CAUTIONARY NOTE:

The house and grounds have been renovated extensively but we do not provide luxury accommodations. The layout of the lower level is a little "funky" due its original use as a hunting and fishing lodge. For example, if you expect to find a tiled foyer with hanging chandelier you will be disappointed. What you will find is the laundry room with washer and dryer. Exits from the bedrooms are not what you typically find in a modern house. So don't expect luxury. What you can expect is a nice clean environment with ample space for great vacation experiences.

DRONE VIDEO OF THE AREA

VIEWING THE YouTube VIDEO "213 25th Avenue" North Myrtle Beach SC The Drone was about 100 feet above my house and next to one of our houses: VRBO Listing #580386 - the two story "Green" house. The Drone camera turns 360 degrees to show the area. Our house has an umbrella on the "widow's walk". We were milling around while the video was recording. It doesn't take much to entertain us. Our other house VRBO Listing #580510 appears about 2 minutes into the video. It is the two-story "Green" house on pilings.

About Al Danielsen

"The Gallery 212" has some original work by local artists. Willing to rent monthly to artists .and artisans.

I am a retired Professor of Economics (University of Georgia) interested in historic preservation. This property is an example. For the another one see VRBO Listing #580510. We bought this house and lot from descendants of the Booth family. Old Mr. Booth built it as a hunting lodge in 1952 but built on the "wrong" lot since it was owned by Colin McLaurin. The Booth lot was adjacent. When Colin McLaurin came to hunt geese and ducks he found the Booth house on his property. (Hunting and fishing were the main attractions of the beach at that time.) Being "Southern Gentlemen" they exchanged title to the properties and remained friends. The McLaurin House was built several years later (on what was the Booth property) and remains the family vacation home of his descendants to this day. the beach are in a flood plane so we had to raise it 14 feet, build a "cradle" under it and install pilings. North Myrtle Beach building codes are very strict so we were required to make it a single family dwelling. We did so by connecting the Upper and Lower floors with an indoor stairway. However, we also installed new doorways on each level with dead bolt locks to ensure privacy for groups that desire some privacy. The house has all new windows, siding, electric wiring, pluming and two additional bathrooms. There are very few empty lots in Cherry Grove so new construction and major renovations like the one we undertook usually require tearing down older and usually smaller houses. Renovated but preserves some of the "old style" beach houses. We have also renovated VRBO Listing #580510 which is an example of houses built in the 1970s. See also #1042935

Great location for a great price!

  • 5 of 5

This house is happily situated between an IGA supermarket and the beach, both about a minute's walk -- what more could you ask for? The house is clean and features a large porch as well as an outdoor barbeque space. Will definitely be renting again if we find ourselves in Myrtle next year!

Property was not suitable for our group

  • 1 of 5

I am sure many people would love to stay at this place, but unfortunately it was not nearly suitable for our guests. 8 fathers and sons, its more suitable for a fraternity or used as a sanctuary for refugees, than for business professionals, white collar, blue collar, or similar.

Quaint but Amazing

  • 5 of 5

This place at first glance seems a bit small but is really nice. As a group, we bonded due to the closeness of it and you can't beat the walk to the beach. A couple of small issues here and there but our Host was very accommodating and responded to our inquiries in a timely manner. The house had almost everything we needed and with the grocery store nearby, we had everything we needed. It's a bit of a drive to the main parts of Myrtle but having the beach all to yourself is something that shines.

Owner's Response: Thanks Dennis: You captured the essence of the house and area very nicely. We are trying to maintain the property as it was when it was built nearly 80 years ago while improving it in a variety of ways. You will be amazed at the large porch area if and when you return. I will have pictures up in a few months so you can view them if you like. Also, Will and I plan to make a really nice patio near the brick grill. He also wants to upgrade the shrubbery so that may happen too. We continue to enjoy improving this property for your enjoyment and our satisfaction. Thank for sharing your vacation time with us. Al

We particularly appreciated the host, Sam, who was very accommodating. He even Provided us with corn hole boards and bags for our entertainment. Went above and beyond what we expected.

Owner's Response: Thanks Ray: Sam is my grand nephew. He had just graduated from the University of South Carolina and looking for a career position which he has now and is moving to Lexington KY. Really enjoyed Sam working with him. He added a dimension that will be hare to replace. Thanks for sharing your time with us. Al

SHOPPING & RESTAURANTS

Walk to Boulineaus/Ace Hardware for anything and everything. Walk to Basil's for a superb Pizza, Duffy's for excellent seafood, the Shack for down home Southern cooking, upscale Flounders for those who can afford it and downscale Harold's or take a taxi or Uber to Captain Poos on the Inland Waterway.

GOLF:

There are two beautiful courses overlooking the inland waterway - Tidewater and Glen Dornoch. Ten to 15 miles north you will find several Links courses that are fun to play - The Pearl comes to mind but there are others. Tiger Paw and other animal named courses are a little further north. Shaftbury Glen about 15 miles inland is wide open but interesting because it has elevated greens and very fast but fair greens. Longs is a fun course just 10 miles inland and interesting due to having dunes and wide stretches of sand that double as cart paths. Economy courses are also available within 10 miles. I would avoid the ones out Highway 9 during wet weather but they are among the most reasonable in terms of green fees. Diamond Back, Crown Point and some others out that way are very inexpensive but about 20 or so miles away. I especially like Diamond Back - horrible name of course - which along with being a little remote reduces play. When it was first opened 20 or more years ago they thought they could charge what the Glens courses were getting but soon found out their remote location, and perhaps it name, discouraged people from playing. Their strategy in recent years has been to be an economy course and it seems to be working out OK. I would advise playing nearby courses for those who have a limited amount of time. Another factor is that some of the nearby courses will probably not survive another decade or so since the land values are increasing. We have already lost Gator Hole which is now a major shopping area and residential development. The same fate awaits Bay Tree which was once a 54 hole course that closed about ten years ago and is just now being developed. Heather Glen, a 27 hole course that we used to play a lot has recently closed and is scheduled to become a housing development and who knows what else. East Port was closed for several years but the residents around the course successfully sued to keep the course open. It is one of the least expensive courses but also not a particularly good one. If you have good players and long knockers I would not advise playing this one. Possem Trot has a really nice practice facility and is a reasonably good course for the money. It is mostly flat and not particularly picturesque but has some challenging holes. Most of the courses I mentioned above are within five miles of Cherry Grove and some within about three. There are a lot of other courses nearby that are interesting to play and very economical. I should also mention Harbour View which is a par three course with a driving range. Thanks for giving me the opportunity of describe some of the courses. I will be putting this on the web in several places and will edit and refine it as time permits.

Everything beachy is a short walk from this property. Located 100 yards from the beach and one block from Sea Mountain Highway It is next to Boulineaus grocery and hardware stores, Basil's Pizza (order early as there is a 2-3 hour wait in the summer), Duffy's rustic restaurant and bar, more upscale Flounder's restaurant and bar. All these are within 50 yards. Parasailing dock is 100 yards away. Families and young adults usually occupy this house from two to six days. The large number of guests and frequent turnover make it difficult if not impossible to meet the personal needs of each guest. We do not provide the amenities you expect when renting a hotel or motel overnight. We do provide essentials for a day or two depending mostly on the size of your group. Members of a large group should bring their own towels, personal items, beach equipment and the like or plan to buy or rent them. Stores in the area offer competitive prices on almost everything.
