Beautiful location but a little too rustic but could be fixed!

  • 3 of 5

We loved the location of the cottage and really many parts of the cottage itself which was a small and quaint place. Went there to paint landscapes and to rest and we had plenty of opportunity to do both. We have reserved a spot for next year because we like the location so much but selected a more up to date cottage. Aside from the double bed that

was up against the wall so you could only get in on one side (unavoidable as the room is small) there were aspects of the cottage that made life more difficult than it needed to be and could be easily fixed. The lighting in the bathroom and by the stove was nearly non existent and in the case of the bathroom just needed a higher wattage bulb and clear shade. There is no light at all in the shower, but a clear shower curtain could fix this problem. The curtains were basically just bolts of fabric tacked to the wall that had to be hand rolled up and down and the ties to one of the curtains wasn't there at all so we had to improvise. The windows are old and can get stuck open, and there were no explanations about the multiple remotes and what belonged to what. The dock was super shaky and had no ladder for getting out of the water if you wanted to swim and there was no other way to get into the water other than jumping in off the dock. On the plus side the scenery was wonderful, swimming was fabulous, there were ingredients left for smores - complete with firewood for the campfire, the sunsets were spectacular and the deck was great for morning coffee and dinners. Also the staff were amazingly responsive and came out right away if there was a problem. We were there for two weeks and loved many parts of the experience but wish the simple fixes were made.

Great little cottage! We stayed here for a week and liked every minute of it.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for a week with our large dog and thought our time here was great. The cottage was cute and cozy, and we really enjoyed our mornings and evenings sitting by the water!

We also enjoyed taking our dog for walks, and took a stroll in the downtown area that's about a 10 min drive away. Our dog needed some more exercise though, so we found out about Shiloh Road Bark Park and highly recommend it! It's not far from the downtown area and the people and pooches who come there are super nice and welcoming. We ended up taking our dog there every morning!

Overall our stay was really nice. We hope to come back soon.

We loved it, but...

  • 4 of 5

...if you need all the fancy "extras" that most accomodations provide today, this might not be for you. There is no wifi. Some may see that as a good thing. The building is tiny, but plenty of room for two who enjoy cozy comfort. This is an older cottage literally 20 feet from the edge of the lake. Slide the kitchen window open, and you can listen to the waves lapping the shore as you fall asleep. The kitchen table looks out over the lake. There's a nice sized deck for enjoying the sunset, and a fire pit for roasting marshmallows. The floors creak and have a slight slope to them. The place defines "rustic," and we would be happy to stay here again if we return to Door County.

Beautiful view

The cottage had an amazing view. We enjoyed the outdoor seating, fire pit, and grill. The inside is quaint. It is located in a quiet relaxing, spot and still close to other small towns. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here.
