Overview

About the property

Chalet, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Full Baths (Sleeps 6-8)

This classic chalet-style cabin is set back from the street at the end of a court on a beautiful wooded lot... one of the largest in Massanutten. It backs to common space and has ample privacy, yet is minutes from all Massanutten activities and amenities.

The cabin features over 2500 square feet of living space, as well as a wrap around deck and screened in porch. It's a great space for families, small groups, and kids of all ages.

The cabin has three levels of living space, three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a well-appointed kitchen, a walk-out basement, rec room with flat screen and Apple TV, a playroom for the kids, a flat driveway (a luxury around here in the winter), screened in porch, and a large wrap-around deck with a propane BBQ grill.

- For the kids - Inside

Every vacation home has a few board games and a deck of cards (this home is no exception), but we know how excited our own kids are when they find something new... so our playroom is stocked with blocks, dinosaurs, cars, trains, puzzles... etc. So there is plenty to keep even the little ones entertained on a rainy day.

- For the kids - Outside

And if its not a rainy day? We know that families come to Massanutten to enjoy the outdoors, and since our lot has such great outdoor space we wanted to provide some options for the kids right here at the house. We've set up a zip line, low ropes, and balance beam. Don't worry, the zip line and low ropes are VERY low (read: safe)… but we had a kid focus group one day and they all said that it was great fun.

- Amenities -

We designed and furnished this cabin with our own family in mind. We love the outdoors and open spaces, and we love the look of exposed beams and the classic chalet-style cabin... Inside we wanted CLEAN (our home ALWAYS will be) and we wanted modern decor and amenities. We offer high speed wireless internet access, a flat-screen TV, Roku (Netflix streaming included), and a fully stocked kitchen for all your culinary needs.

- Things to do -

We're located smack in the middle of Massanutten Resort, not more than a couple of minutes from all resort activities including the ski slope, indoor/outdoor water park, year-round tubing, two golf courses, go-karts, mini-golf, ice skating (seasonal), horseback riding, fishing ponds, playgrounds, and fantastic hiking. We have also purchased summer passes to the mountain-top outdoor pool for all of our guests. And of course, you can venture outside the resort to the nearby Shenandoah National Park, Shenandoah River, Luray Caverns, local wineries, lavender farm... etc. Options for outdoor entertainment in The Valley are endless.

- We make it easy -

We always provide our guests with linens and towels, dish soap, hand soap, laundry detergent, and other cleaners. We also provide starter sets of paper products like paper towels and toilet paper. Although we don't inventory other items, some essentials often stay stocked such as assorted spices, cooking oil, sweeteners… etc.

Just pack your clothes, a little food and drink, and your family and friends... and we'll always provide you with a great place to stay for your Massanutten vacation.

-NOTE- Must be 25 to rent.

About Matt Carrier

We met at James Madison and live in Northern Virginia with our three children. We volunteer at school, church, and with youth sports. We spend as little time as possible waiting in Tyson's Corner traffic.

We started coming back to The Valley a few years ago and found Massanutten to be the perfect weekend vacation spot for our family. This was something that I definitely did not anticipate as a ski instructor here in 1999.

We were very excited to purchase this home in the Summer of 2014, and have had fun preparing a great space to share with our friends and our guests.

Matt Carrier purchased this chalet in 2014

Why Matt Carrier chose McGaheysville

We love the activities that Massanutten Resort provides, as well as the proximity to the endless opportunities for outdoor recreation in the Shenandoah Valley.

We love the look and feel of this house, but it's the outdoor space that makes it. Many of the lots at Massanutten are on fairly steep slopes and the outdoor space isn't as usable as we would like. We really wanted the kids to be able to play outside, and we knew right away that we could create an outdoor space here that our kids would love. This relatively level lot is one of the biggest in Massanutten, it backs to common space, and the house is set back at the end of a court.

What makes this chalet unique

There are tons of activities at Massanutten Resort and elsewhere in The Valley, but you don't even need to go anywhere to appreciate the outdoors from this home.

If you want to leave the house in the morning and come back at night, then you can stay anywhere. We like this place because our kids don't want to leave... and that means we can be more flexible when planning (or not planning) our days.

Absolutely Perfect for Families

  • 5 of 5

This vacation beyond exceeded our expectations.

Matt, the owner, was so easy to work with- answering questions immediately and providing helpful tips.

We have 22 month, 4 and 5 year old girls and they didn’t want to leave! The zip line was a huge hit as were the deer that mesmerized my girls right outside our window on the first morning. From that day on, our daughters made them a breakfast of acorns and my husband snuck out at night to spread them around so the girls believed the deer had eaten their offerings :).

The house is spacious and the beds were SO comfortable. I want to buy the sheets for our family!

The reading nook has a door so we were able to put our 22 month old in there on her toddler bed mattress that we brought. A pack n play is already set up in that room but ours is a climber. There is a futon downstairs, too.

The playroom was a huge hit, too- an elaborate train for my youngest to adore, a huge bag of dinosaurs, and a tool bench my girls had a ball hammering, sawing and tightening screws. The puzzles and books were also a great addition and the TV was perfect- my husband was pleasantly surprised he was able to watch Live NBA and College Football and the girls loved the kids movies and shows available when they rarely watched TV. We had fun hiking on skyline, playing at the water park and the playground right down the hill from the house. We walked that trail and visited the farmers market on Saturday morning.

Helpful info to know: Matt tries to provide basics like a roll of toilet paper and paper towels but you will likely want to bring extra. Also, we should have brought tissues, zip lock bags and Tupperware for leftovers. There are basics like S&P, sugar and a little oil but nothing in the fridge like ketchup, mayo, mustard - I was glad we brought those.

I’ve made Matt aware of the carpets that could use a deep cleaning and the need for a chain lock on the front door, preventing little ones from getting out since the front door has a code lock and cannot be locked from the inside. I’ve also recommended some extra blankets and safety padding around the fireplace.

Honestly, our family would love to come back here every year. The lot is secluded and the year-round neighbors we did have were friendly and hospitable, inviting us over for coffee. We could not have asked for a better home to rent from more gracious owners. If this place is available, snag it while you can. It is a true jewel!

Kids could play safely while we relaxed on the porch

  • 4 of 5

Great wooded lot, comfortable beds, lots of things for kids to do in the yard and the basement. AC unit broke. Owner was very responsive and got us three portable units and fans. Kitchen could use more placesettings and coffee mugs. We would stay there again.

Perfect location, lovely house!

  • 5 of 5

The house was great! We loved hanging out in the living room with all the beautiful windows and the baby loved playing with all the toys. Did I mention the location? Close to Harrisonburg, a super cute city with tons of great dining options, as well as the majestic Shenandoah National Park, a hiker's paradise! I have not seen such beauty in a long time, and now I am inspired to take this type of trip every chance I get. Old Rag and Blackrock Spur were my favorites, and I had the latter all to myself as the southern section of the park is less heavily traveled. So stunning it almost didn't look real. I would definitely stay again. Thanks so much Matt and Katie!!!

Just what we needed!

  • 4 of 5

Great house with lots of things for kids to do! They loved the zip line and the basement kept them occupied during the whole time. The owners were wonderful to work with and always attentive to our needs. The only issue was the wifi which was resolved but then stopped working the night before but we left the next evening so not such a big deal. Would stay again!
