We have a pair off ospreys that nest right next to us. In this gorgeous landscaped setting you will find a small Koi pond and something unique around ever corner. We allow dogs, it's 100.00 for 1st dog 50.00 more for 2nd pet, two being the limit. pet We have also the honor of being on the local garden club tour 2 times in the past years, and have been ask again this year! There is a small organic garden to pick from and many other kinds of fruit trees, and berries around the yard. This is a beautiful home that is handicap acceptable, sleeps 6 or more, with 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms, with a Tranquil Master bedroom with sofa sleeper, private large jetted tub and walk-in shower made just right for two. A bedroom with queen size bed, and another bedroom with twin beds that can be put together to make nice king. All room's have t.v.'s, plus a sofa sleeper in front room, and one blow up mattress. So come enjoy or cabin style home, where we will greet you with a bottle of homemade wine, warm home made bread, and fresh whipped butter, also local made jam and soap's. About John & Tina Schweers

We have lived in Gold Beach most of our lives and we know almost everyone in town. John has been employed by the local lumber yard since 1981 and enjoys golfing hence the golf deck. We purchased this property with the intention of creating a vacation rental unlike any other. As we where rebuilding we fell in love and decided to stay. Now we are looking for new adventures in life and we want to share our beautiful home with others.

John & Tina Schweers purchased this lodge in 2003

Why John & Tina Schweers chose Southern Coast

Because it's a beautiful place to be, you can just sit back and relax in your rocking chair on the deck and watch the birds play or Elk hang. And If you like to golf you better bring a club and some balls to hit off our golf deck. You will find something unique around ever corner. And it's just minutes from town, yet usually the weather is much nicer here.

What makes this lodge unique

It starts with an open floor plan that makes it all handicap assessable . We have Elk viewing, bird watching, horseshoes. We have very small organic garden that you can pick from, or fruits trees and berry's. Once you arrive here you will be greeted with a batch of fresh home made warm bread and a bottle of home made wine that is sure to make you feel right at home. We also have a fully loaded pantry with most of the basic you'll need to prepare your meals. So come see what's behind our coded gate.

The best you will find

  • 5 of 5

We refuse to stay in hotels and because of this we are well seasoned in the range and diversity of vacation rentals. On average we stay at about 5-6 vacation rentals per year and in all of our experience the Elephant Rock Lodge is one of the finest! The amenities were replete, the extras were divine, and the house was beautifully apportioned. All too often owners will neglect the embellishments and ambience of an interior which makes for a enjoyable stay, but these folks have mastered it. The best part was the pristine hot tub which we reveled in each night!

Highly recommended to all and we promise you wont be disappointed!

Words and pictures don't do it justice

The beds are comfortable, although some are an interesting summit for the vertically challenged. The natural lighting is a photographers delight, the wood variety in textures and styles is very tastefully done especially in combination with the light, both natural and artificial. The sky lights and abundant windows make it so the indoor plants are thriving. There are tastefully done taxidermy specimens that are thoughtfully placed while not being intrusive. As are the culturally interesting artifacts, art, books and small trinkets that are great little surprises that you keep finding every time you walk by. These little treasures expand to the outdoors where there is an immaculate garden and yard. There are discreet little alcoves that offer privacy to enjoy nature with over hanging fruit trees, grapes and other luxurious foliage. There is a creatively designed pond with fish small and large that are tended by the Fairy garden on the edge. Flowers are everywhere but not overwhelming, they accentuate the space with splashes of color. A large grassy area offers a net for games such as volleyball as well as a covered pit for horse shoes. The driving range looks out over the drop off at a sea of greenery where the Wildlife is bountiful. Just beyond the property is a well traveled trail and just short of that there is a private trail of trail cameras and feeding stations just below the house. A both functional and aesthetically design garden is close at hand for fresh produce in addition to the abundance and variety of fruits scattered around. Several decks and porches make for comfortable areas to recline while enjoying food, drink, and a good book as well as the luscious scenery. Not far outside central gold beach it provides easy access to all that Gold Beach has to offer from the ocean to the Rogue River. The kitchen was well stocked and artfully designed with sky lights, stainless steal appliances, beautiful ceramics, and a walk in pantry. The master bedroom and bathroom is a secluded haven with a very luxurious jetted tub perfect for quality time with a book. It is by far the best we have stayed in, and would gladly stay there again. As a bonus the owners are very pleasant and accommodating with attentive and friendly neighbors. The attention to little details makes it a spectacular vacation destination.

Better than advertised

  • 5 of 5

The house and amenities were all top notch. I hate to give too good of review as I.fear that it will only make it harder to get an.empty week.again next.year. However I cant.say.anything but "exceptionally" and still look myself in the mirror.

A perfect slice of paradise to explore the south coast or just stay at home

  • 5 of 5

There are three things about this place that make it exceptional.

1) The owners are extremely serious about you feeling at home and that you enjoy yourself to the utmost. They have a beautiful garden that they invite you to share, they have fruit trees and vines, they set up our kids rooms' and made sure they felt at home. That is beyond all expectation.

2) The house itself is lovely, extremely well appointed, well built and insulated, and has everything you would ever need. I can imagine it is great all year round for these reasons - even if the weather gets tough in the winter, you can be happy just relaxing in the house and will be warm and delighted.

3) The grounds and the location. The yard is gorgeous, with many delightful nooks and crannies in which to relax or play. The hot tub is wonderful, and there is a beautiful view of a valley that contains the Rogue River from everywhere. We liked to watch deer play down below as we ate. Two cats also make you feel warm and loved in the yard. The location is beautiful for the view, but also lovely to get to Gold Beach and the coast or go up the Rogue itself into the forest.

In short, we highly recommend it and you need look no further if you are looking for a place to stay in the area.

warm, freshly baked bread with homemade blackberry jam & butter upon our arrival; homemade blackberry wine to enjoy out on the deck, which comes complete with hot tub, firepit, swing and rocking chairs; a garden that supplies fresh veggies for dinner. What more can I say?!? How about an inviting home that affords a kitchen stocked with everything that you forgot to pack; three ultra-comfortable bedrooms; more televisions than we could watch and an inviting family room that provided enough space for all seven adults to lounge & socialize. John and Tina are exceptional hosts who know how to make you feel spoiled and pampered!!! Great location, beautiful setting, and a comfortable home. There aren't enough adjectives to adequately describe this exceptional property. Hurry and make your reservations now . . . our only regret is not being able to stay longer!

Great property, great location, and so many delightful little touches

  • 5 of 5

We are exceptionally pleased with our stay at the Elephant Rock Lodge in Gold Beach. Pretty much everything exceeded our expectations.

The property was immaculately maintained, with clean and spacious kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms, and the living areas. We had five adults and two dogs, and there was plenty of room for all of us. The house was well laid out and planned, with fun decorations. The master bathroom was well appointed, with shower and jacuzzi bathtub. There were plenty of towels and laundry was no problem.

The location was great, with nearby Gold Beach providing restaurants and grocery stores, and plenty of regional recreational opportunities. The nearby Oregon beaches are spectacular, and quaint destination towns only a moderate drive to the south, north, and east.

What we didn't expect were all the little extras provided by John and Tina. We knew there would be the hot loaf of bread and homemade jam when we arrived, based on the property description. What we did not expect were the garden and apple trees where we could (and did) forage for vegetables and fruits. I had mentioned that I was having a birthday during my stay, so they had special decorations and had a birthday cake waiting on our arrival! The kitchen had a variety of cooking equipment and a wide variety of pantry staples for us to use.

There was equipment for badminton, croquet, and even frisbee golf to play during the day, and the hot tub and fire pit on the large deck for night time relaxing. The views from the deck were great. While close to town, the property is really in the countryside, with the occasional osprey flying overhead.

Tina and John were available to answer questions as needed, but we didn't have any issues that required their help during our visit.

We felt very much at home during our stay, and could not have been happier with our choice. I'm happy to recommend the Elephant Rock Lodge, and would definitely stay there again if we decide to return to the Southern Oregon coast for a future vacation.
