Cozy and Clean
This is a wonderful place to stay if you enjoy staying in cabins. I personally do enjoy staying in cabins and this one was perfect for me. Everything was clean and well laid out with all the amenities that you would normally have in your own home. The owner even contacted me to see if there was anything else that I needed. I would definitely recommend staying here as it is only a couple minutes from down town and very close to all convenience stores.
Thank you for visiting. We truly appreciate the kind words. We do our best to make each visit enjoyable and memorable. Please come back and see us soon.
Rustic but not roughing it
This was a great combination of log cabin and comfortable house. It was charming and felt like a cabin in the woods, but with the advantages of a really nice place and many modern conveniences. Also lovely grounds once you get down the driveway from the main road. Just a really nice place. Highly recommended.
We really appreciate the kind words and hope that you will return soon.
Warning - Wasps & Intermittent Internet
Let me start off by stating that I have probably rented over 50 homes thru vrbo and other sites. This is the first time I have ever written a negative review. No place is perfect and there are always little issues and minor inconveniences but what I experienced at this house ruined my vacation.
This house has a major wasp issue. When we checked in, we killed 5-10 wasps inside the house but figured the cleaning service had doors and windows open so we dealt with it and moved on. We left early in the morning but when we returned, we found 5-10 more wasps inside the house. This is when we contacted the owner. On his behalf, he responded quickly and told us he would have his bug guy come and spray the next day. From our conversation, it definitely seemed like he knew about this problem.
We left in the morning and once again returned late afternoon to find more wasps. In fact, my daughter was woken up from a nap with one buzzing right by her face. I emailed the owner again to confirm someone came out and that we were considering checking into a hotel. I never once heard back from the owner the rest of the trip which is the main reason I'm writing this review.
This may be a bigger deal for my family as my son is allergic to wasps so one sting could potentially lead to a hospital. He has only been stung once and swelled up so he is always very cautious. Having wasps outside is one thing but having them inside the home every single day ruined our vacation.
However, it just wasn't wasps. The internet was almost unusable. It would work for 10 minutes and then just stop. We constantly keep restarting the router which takes 5 minutes to reset. Its probably just a bad router and I mentioned this to the owner but he simply stated the area had unreliable internet. Since I work during my vacations, I'm always sensitive to unreliable internet in reviews so was surprised no one mentioned this before..
These were the main two issues and the reason why I'm writing this review. There are always other minor inconveniences but this house seemed to have quite a few:
* Shower door upstairs won't close so water gets everywhere
* Fuse in master br kept shorting so had to reset fuse
* Incredibly small tv with no dvd player (listed on ad)
* Hair dryer in bathroom doesn't work
* Food was not really cold in fridge. Not sure if it was a bad fridge or a result of the fuse going out
I feel bad writing this review but want to warn future renters.
beautiful and relaxing setting
We could not have picked a more ideal setting for a week with our adult children. close to lots of activities, yet secluded and restful when we wanted to chill. Terry and Linda have done a lovely job with this retreat. Can't recommend it highly enough. cheers!
It was a pleasure hosting your stay, and thank you very much for the nice words. Always glad to hear that our guests enjoy what we are offering
Gorgeous home, beautiful and peaceful property
Charming, clean, historical (logs are from dismantled 19th-century cabins), well-maintained and beautiful home. Well-appointed - fully-equipped kitchen, lots of books, games/puzzles for kids, throw blankets on the couches, and even birdseed for the birdfeeder! Perfect space for our family of 4 for a week. Just enough outside town to be quiet and peaceful, but not far from restaurants and the bay, the ferry to Washington Island and the cute towns just to the south. Owner was very responsive. Pics accurate. Would definitely stay again!
Can't thank you enough for the kind words. We did our best to get things in the cabin that we might expect while traveling and are constantly refining it. We hope that you return to visit and again, thank you very much.
A few days in the North Door
While close to Sister Bay, this log house feels secluded - a great place for a family to stay!
we are happy that you enjoyed your stay and hope that you will return to visit again. Thank you for the kind words
Door County is home to five state parks, numerous county parks, public beaches and boat launches. There are also large tracts managed by the Nature Conservancy and the Door County Land Trust, most with great public access.
It has a vibrant arts community with numerous private galleries encompassing many mediums from sculpture to pottery.
Door County is also blessed with great local theater. America's oldest summer theater, Penninsula Players as well as Tap in Sturgeon Bay and the American Folklore Theater in Fish Creek. There is also plenty of free music in local parks and other small venues.
Shopping is a delight, nightlife and dining are great and there is water everywhere.
It's no wonder families return to us every year. It's a tradition!
