About Harold & Claire
Harold And Claire Claire is French-Canadian who grew up in Quebec. Harold grew up in Long Beach but had not resided in Long Beach for 50 years, retired from 35 year career in Public Safety from Utah. Purchased this cottage as a family vacation home for our six adult children and seven grand children to experience and enjoy the Mississippi Gulf Coast....they all now have a deep connection to the beauty and people of our beloved community.
Harold & Claire purchased this Cottage in 2014
Why Harold & Claire chose Long Beach
This could be classified as a “love story” by some or simply “luck of life” by others. In 2010 I, Harold, returned to the Mississippi Gulf Coast for a class reunion, where I hadn’t lived for over forty years. During that visit Claire feel in love with the beauty and peacefulness of the area and the people that call it home. We had been looking for a location to purchase a winter/retirement home for several years. After we returned from our trip life went on and we continued looking for property in Florida and other parts of the South never thinking we would return to the Mississippi Gulf Coast Then in 2013 events in life again brought us in contact with friends along the Coast. Later that year I was able to purchase a building lot in Long Beach with thoughts that we might build a small home there some day. In 2014 we again traveled to the area for Mardis Gras and took in a number of the parades along the coast. When checking the property I had purchased, Claire noticed that the older cottage on the property next door was for sale. The cottage had not been maintained for several years and was in need of much attention. Claire decided to purchase the cottage and the work was on to set it up for a family retreat. After several months of work and help from many friends in the area Claire has brought the cottage alive. This will now be our families’ (kids and grandkids) retreat when time allows. We hope you enjoy the cottage, Long Beach, the area, the beach life, the great seafood and of course the people of the area as much as we do and will. Please feel at home at our cottage and enjoy the beauty of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Third stay at this property, hopefully won't be last!
My spouse & I have booked the Gulf Palms Cottage on 3 occasions in the past 3 years & have zero complaints. The owner makes every effort to ensure a comfortable and relaxing "home away from home". Upon arrival, we have always found it thoroughly cleaned & basic supplies stocked. A nearby Winn Dixie is convenient for any groceries/snacks that may be needed. Ample fishing supplies, beach needs, grill, picnic table, fire pit, kayak, etc. are all provided for use by guests.
The location is ideal to sit back and relax or use as a kickoff for all the coast has to offer. A 5 minute walk gets you either to the beach & harbor or charming downtown Long Beach. There's much to see/do all along the coast- drive along the beach west to explore Biloxi & Ocean Springs & east for Pass Christian & Bay St.Louis. Restaurant favorites of ours - Steve's Marina, "funky" Darwells (Long Beach); Shaggy's (Pass Christian) & The Blind Tiger (Bay St. Louis). There are many, many others but these are always "must-dos".
All in all - Highly recommended!
We do appreciate our repeat guests and we do thank you for staying at our cottage once again. We are so glad that you had another wonderful visit to the MS Gulf Coast and look forward to hearing from you in the future. Thank you, Claire & Harold
Gulf Palms Cottage, Long Beach
Perfect for us!! Large yard was great for our truck & trailer. Cottage has that home feeling, with lots of room for the four of us to enjoy ourselves. Best thing for us was the convenience to my brother's home. Appreciated Harold and Claire giving us information on places to eat and sites to see.
Thank you Kay for the nice review, and we are so happy that your family enjoy the Coast. Please know we welcome you back at any time. Have a great Summer. Thanks, Claire & Harold
Good kids spot
My family had a wonderful time. My husband and I stayed with our kids and dog. The home was nice and had everything we could need for our stay. I cooked most of our meals and the kitchen had everything i needed, even a pitcher to make tea! We had fun going to the Gulf Coast Train Muesum in Gulfport. This was a must see and an awesome experience for the kids, plus it was free. We also went to the Children's Discovery Center in Gulfport, as well. This was also a fun activity for the kids. Overall, a superb place to visit and awesome accommodations! You cant go wrong with Mr. Harold and Ms. Claire!
Thank you Kelsey and we are in agreement with you this area of the Coast, the community and the neighborhood is ideal for kids to enjoy any season. That was the main reason we decided to purchase this cottage due to the location & the wonderful area for our flock of kids and now grandkids to enjoy the Coast. Thanks, Claire & Harold
Nice, clean, comfortable...perfect vacation home location!
We came here to relax and not do much of anything and we were able to do that here. We brought chairs to the beach at night and listened to the ocean. We had great food at Steve's Marina and Half Baked Subs, and awesome coffee at Coast Roast . The cottage home was a great vacation home and Harold did so much to help make our stay wonderful!
Thank you and your focus was similar to us when we stay at the cottage....sit back, relax, enjoy the beach and take in some good eats!! We are very happy you were able to have a relaxed, get away from it all trip. Thanks, Harold & Claire
Loved every minute the cottage is so nice!
Thank for your review. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay along the MS Coast and the cottage fit your needs. Thanks, Claire & Harold
Repeat visitor and will come again!!
This is our 4th visit to the Gulf Palms Cottage and, as usual, all of our expectations were met and exceeded. The cottage is fully stocked with everything needed to cook a family meal - we were able to have our local aunt and uncle over for a 4th of July cookout meal which made the cottage feel even more like a home away from home. The owners supply beach towels and the "shed" has lots of bagged chairs, beach toys, and yard games. We went out and played at Ship island, the marine mammal institute, gem and rock shop, Long Beach Live (local music on the Town Greene), splash pad, sharkheads, Friendly City Yogurt Shop and, of course, the beach!! Highly recommend all these activities for young families!! Be sure to bring sunscreen to Ship Island and reapply liberally!! We still plan to visit the Friendship Oak and explore Pass Christian. In the heat of the day, we loved to come "home" and relax under the shaded oak trees or outdoor living space in the anti-gravity chairs or classic white adironodack chairs while the kids played in the large front yard, with the supplied board games in the cottage, watched a movie, or rested. For food - Darwell's, Harbor City Cafe and Steve's (in Long Beach), Triplet Day Drugstore (for binets) and Tony's Brick Oven Pizza (in Gulfport) and Mary Mahoney's (in Biloxi) are all good choices. We watched the fireworks on the beach for the 4th and they were spectacular- no need to drive over to Gulfport - there were groups of people setting off spectacular shows right in Long Beach. Highly recommend this area and the Gulf Palms Cottage!!! Looking forward to our 5th trip!
Thank you for your review. We do appreciate other families enjoying the MS Coast as much as our family has over the years. When we listed our cottage our main thought was to provide families with a location where they could experience the coast as a "local" at an affordable rate. A safe, relaxing, clean and enjoyable family vacation was so important to our family so we are so happy your family had the same experience. We do enjoy our repeat guests.....thank you. Claire & Harold
