Villa La Estancia is GREAT
Great location, spacious units and nicely maintained. Definitely would go back.
Beautiful resort, lovely and well maintained, spacious condo!!!
If this condo is available..... BOOK IT! Don’t hesitate you will love it. It was everything I wanted plus more. The resort is perfectly located on Medano beach and it’s beautiful. Amazing staff, and the owner Bob was so nice! I will never stay anywhere else when vacationing in Cabo! I can’t wait to come back!!
WOW! Truly a 5-star experience - Part III
For Walmart, and town – just walk right outside the resort. There are local buses every 10 minutes or so…. 3 lines, but each of them go to Walmart first and then to town before they do their full 1.5 hour loops. My 3 year old and I did the full loop once for fun. VERY bouncy so not for the queasy – and you need to be pretty adventurous because you go way out to the rural poor areas – but if you really want to see some non-tourist parts of Mexico, it’s an experience. You’ll need to take a taxi back/stand is right outside Walmart (or walk back from town which we did a few times --- just walk right by McDonald’s – yes you can never get too far away from “America” in tourist-Mexico! Fair is 12 pesos – or you pay with a $1 bill. Yes it bounces like crazy --- but it’s a 5 minute adventure. Walmart has EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING. Stock up and enjoy. They also sell Wine and Alcohol. There is a huge spirits store in the same complex – think “BevMo” with lots of selection --- and a nice food court with about 8 restaurants. We ate there a few times as part of our shopping – pretty much the best deal we found and delicious! We even came back to the Sushi restaurant (Koi Sushi) – which was recommended – and VERY good actually with really good prices too!
You can walk into town and the Marina – along the road --- or the beach – but’s it a pretty good distance. Bus (see above) or taxi is better option. Also outside the property is an amazing bakery with cinnamon rolls. You’ll find another kiosk from this bakery just outside Walmart (pretzel rolls, etc.) but for the cinnamon, you have to go the main one.
The Marina has high end shopping, lots of U.S. chain restaurants and shops like Haagen Daas, etc. and lots of great Mexican food. If you want to have fish therapy/fish pedicure, do it at the Paradiso Mall in the center court – it’s half the price of the Villa del Arco spa – but DO go into that spa and check it out --- wow – it’s supposedly the largest in Latin America and is just beautiful. Treatments are overpriced, but when in Rome….
When in town, go over and watch the cruise ships arrive and all the day tour operators jocky for business. Cacophony of craziness! Book a sport fishing charter, Scuba (or SNUBA which we did with my 7 year old who loved it) or Sea Trek which will be back operating soon/the area on the sea floor needed time for sand to rebuild after the Hurricane), swim with dolphins, ...
WOW! Truly a 5-star experience - Part II
...Ballet Folkolorio, etc. -- typical of Mexico resorts. A bit pricey, but again fun for the kids for a few nights. At Bob's place, you'll be in the center of the 3 resorts (at Villa La Estancia). It is definitely the nicest/highest end of the 3 (even with the last resort - Villa del Arco) built most recently, because the other 2 are Timeshares as mentioned. Essentially you have the run of all 3 resorts --- lots of restaurants to choose from -- something like 10 across the 3 properties, with a couple of them double counted because they change their name and menus at night. Great wood fired pizza at Palmar, good Mexican at Patron in Arco... Enjoy the swim up bar and restaurant just steps outside your patio at Estancia. Technically you aren't supposed to use the other pools (just Estancia -- which has 2 large pools with water features, etc.) -- but we weren't really bothered when we did go over to the others. Be creative with asking for towels. We even spent time at the pool with a FULL SIZE Pirate Ship right in the middle (at Arco).
Bob's place has an awesome kitchen and you can make pretty much anything to eat or drink (blender included). The property makes its own water from the ocean by reverse osmosis. Very pure and no issues. The property also has its own generators so zero power issues. Bob even sent over his local person to check on us and bring a Keurig. Thanks Bob! The photos pretty much show everything inside and out – including a great grill we used (to make fresh fish that we bought right from the dock – see below). Full washer and dryer – PLUS complete cleaning and linens every other day – just like a hotel. There are 2 safes in the rooms too, nice amenities (Le Occitane, etc.). Honestly the only negative comments we could make is that the main couch had a few stains/wear and tear – and the black-out curtains had a few tears/wear and tear.
Walmart is nearby for groceries (see below for more on that) and there is a fairly large mini-grocery store right on the property (but it’s definitely at a premium). There is a full pharmacy too – you can buy lots of things there that you’d need a prescription for in the U.S. – and they are much cheaper. There is a doctor also that can see you and write you prescriptions (I think the “visit” costs $100). If you go into town, you can find all these medicines for much less – and the doctor “visit” is also much cheaper.
WOW! Truly a 5-star experience - Part I
We stayed for 21 nights in Nov/Dec 2015. Yes - 21! And honestly, we wished we stayed longer! Having traveled all over the world and stayed at 1-star hole in the walls, and all the way up to the Ritz-Carlton in Hawaii -- we have to say this is one of the nicest properties we have ever experienced.
Bob was great in providing us advance information. Our first concern was safety --- my wife and I have been to many countries... but this time, we were traveling with our 7 year old, 3 year old and 6 month old. Any advance concern was unfounded --- from the big slide (at Palmar next door), to the kids club on property (extra fee for 1/2 day or full day) to the ice cream parlor on property -- kids and families were very content. There also is security right at the beach -- mainly to keep the jewelry and other vendors at bay. Ha! Ha! They can be a bit pesky, but you’ll get use to it. There is even a security guard that has a Harris Hawk and walks around twice a day to hunt small birds so they don't attack your crumbs when eating outside on your veranda. An experience for the kids. Ah…only in Mexico!
Getting to the property from the airport is easy. Read online for options such as shared shuttle bus, or arrange a private SUV. Estancia front desk folks are very nice. You can sign up and take the Timeshare tour if you like (at Palmar or Arco --- Estancia is just private residences). It’s not too much of a hard sell, if you are used to such things - and you can get a discount card (Gold Card) that saves you 15% on all your drinks and meals across all 3 properties. They’ll throw in some other free things – 10 free drink tickets, reduced prices for SUV tours, swimming with Whale Sharks (highly recommended/12 hour trip all the way to La Paz but they pick you right up at Estancia, zip line (Cabo Adventures is the BEST and we did several) --- so much to do! We had a blast with these and more – including the glass bottom boats out to Pelican rock to drop you to snorkel, banana bounce, jet skis and parasail right from the beach in front of Arco (see below).
So let's talk about the property. Villa del Palmar is next door. It's the oldest of the 3 in the complex (built about 30 years ago). It shows a little age and definitely has more of the families, the big Orca whale slide and waterfalls in the pool, fun games in the day lead by an "activity team", etc. At night, they do a buffet with a different theme show -- Mamma Mia, Michael Jackson...
Your condo was beautiful and we loved the location! We used the awesome hot tubs right off you veranda every night. What a relaxing way to take in the view. See you again next year.
All that Cabo has to offer!
