Relaxing Stay in Bellport

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful and relaxing stay in Bellport! Unfortunately, the weather wasn't great, but the playroom happily kept the kiddos occupied when the weather wasn't cooperating. We also hit the nearby Long Island Aquarium which was super-fun and way bigger than expected. When the weather was good, the private beach on the bay was amazing, the yard was great for throwing around balls and the pond was awesome for a quick paddle around in the kayak. The hammock was also wonderful for lazy swinging. The knives in the kitchen could use some sharpening for cooking, as we did lots of that, but that's really the worst criticism I could give. Nat was super-helpful, and even let us upgrade the cable package so we could watch the Yankees/Red Sox series :) Highly recommend if you want a quiet weekend away, and don't want the Hamptons mayhem.

Peaceful, Secluded, Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

I highly recommend this house for a relaxing weekend away. It is very private, with a wonderful large lawn space and plenty of space for children to play. The house and the kitchen is fully equipped with anything you need, and Nat was very helpful with anything we couldn't find.

It's a few minutes drive from the shops where you can buy groceries, wine, and also nearby to cafe's.

We had a wonderful time here, and highly recommend it if you're looking for a relaxing weekend away with the family.

House was great, outdoors not so much

  • 3 of 5

The rooms were clean and comfy. The house was beautiful and sat on a beautiful piece of property. Unfortunately we were not able to enjoy the outdoors at all. The mosquito situation was the worst any of us have ever experienced. Day or night you could not step outside without being literally attacked by mosquitos. This shouldn't have surprised us since there is a large pond on the property. The beach was a nice short walk from the house but was also full of mosquitos as well as a ton of sea weed so we weren't able to enjoy it. We ended up spending the whole weekend indoors. The saving grace that weekend was the cute play room for our children otherwise I think we may have all given up and gone home. While I completely understand that the owner has no control of mosquitos or sea weed I did want other renters to be aware because we were so disappointed. I also understand that this may not be a year round occurrence - it could have just been a bad time of year for sea weed and mosquitos.

Not a Renter Friendly Space

  • 3 of 5

This is clearly a house that is used by the owners as a vacation and storage house--not really with renters in mind. The bedroom spaces could be configured to be more renter-friendly. For example, there is no closet space available in the master bedroom. Both closets are locked. The "4th bedroom" has no actual bed, no closet and no window coverings. The closets that are available in the other rooms are filled with clothes and there aren't many free hangers. The door handle for the bathroom in the master bedroom needed to be tightened because it was spinning--had to find an allen wrench in the garage. There was no iron or ironing board. The kitchen had food in the refrigerator and cupboards. The area behind the microwave where the switch for the fan is located is greasy.

Owner's Response: Doug I am sorry your stay wasn't great in your eyes...This is actually the first review I've had that hasn't been overly glowing and 5 stars, as you can see by the rest of the reviewers....Yes this is our weekend house and we do use it to get out of the city. We do however have renters in mind with the way we have set it up. The closets ARE locked in the master bedroom precisely TO keep our lives out of yours, and you failed to mention that there is a full dresser in the master bedroom that is TOTALLY EMPTY for renters use. I'm not sure what you mean by the "4th bedroom" not having a bed, as it actually does have a bed. It's a hi-end fold down couch/futon with great sheets, pillows, and comforter, and its always set up as a bed for renters use. Its not as lux as the rest of the bedrooms as we also use it as a home office, but it is still very chic and comfortable, in my opinion. I apologize for the crystal doorknob on the master bath door not being tight, we try to be perfect but little stuff does happen. There IS an iron for sure, in the cabinet above the washing machine. A simple call or email and I could have steered you to it. If the refrigerator had food in it, it was condiments and little stuff that most people find useful and helpful. The area behind the microwave by the fan switch is next to the stovetop, and perhaps it was greasy as its behind the microwave and out of the way, I do apologize. Again I am sorry your experience wasn't what you had hoped for. I assure you we strive to make every guest happy and feel like the house is their own private oasis for their stay. Best, Nat

Sweet summer getaway

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriends and I stayed at Cabin 5 in Bellport for a long weekend and couldn’t have been more pleased with our experience. We found the property to be just as advertised. In fact, even better than the photos. The house was super-clean and cozy, and filled with everything you could possibly need for a serene summer getaway. Bedrooms were comfortable and spacious. Closets were well-stocked with extra pillows, linens and beach towels. Kitchen had all the essentials for cooking/grilling. We grilled and enjoyed many meals out on the deck, lounged on the hammock and soaked up the sun on our own private beach.

The location couldn’t have been better -- it was a five-minute drive to the quaint town of Bellport or a 10-minute drive to downtown Patchogue where we found a variety of dining and shopping.

The owner, Nathaniel, was great, very responsive. When we first arrived we had some trouble figuring out how to program the air conditioner. I sent him a text and he replied within minutes with instructions. (The house has two separate cooling zones, which was really nice considering it was 90 degrees outside our entire stay.)

The beach area was a little rocky and not great for swimming, but perfect for sunbathing and kayaking. (There’s a nice kayak on the property for guests to use.) We enjoyed the water views from the balcony off the master bedroom where we had our coffee in the morning.

If we ever return to the Fire Island area, we will definitely rent this house again.

Car: recommended

Bellport is a small, quaint, beautiful little village..use your private bay beach behind the house, or take the Bellport ferry to Fire Island ocean beach. Relax on the large outdoor deck on the new furniture, cook on the outdoor grill, play bocce in the spacious yard, relax in the hammock...
