About Richard Lowdermilk

Richard and Brenda have had family in the Atlantic, NC area for generations. This is a wonderful area that they have enjoyed visiting for many years while working. In retirement, they have built a new house across the street from what is now the rental property.

Why Richard Lowdermilk chose Central Coast

This property was passed down from generations and Brenda and Richard decided to make it a charming quiet home on the sound. Significant recent improvements maximize the waterfront elements of the property including a brand new dock and deck.

Peaceful and Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely had the best time! The owners were so accommodating and answered any questions we had. We all (including the baby dogs) loved the dock and spent everyday fishing and enjoying the view! We also enjoyed the walks and bike rides around Atlantic. We ate at the White Point Take Out a couple of times and the food was excellent. This is definitely a place to rest and relax! We will definitely be visiting again!!

Life at the end of the road

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time we've stayed at the Lowdermilk home in Atlantic NC. The home has a full kitchen, bath and laundry facilities. It is located at the end of US 70. They have wifi included but are just out of cellular phone range. I didn't have to answer a call for a week!

The winds off the Outer Banks whistled through the night in an otherwise quiet community. The back porch and dock attracted sea gulls, ospreys and brown pelicans that dined on crabs.

There are several restaurants within a few miles of Atlantic that serve fresh-caught sea food at reasonable prices

We'll be making reservations to return in the fall.

The house, dock, and yard were all very well maintained.

We had a very enjoyable trip despite some bad weather. On the rainy days we visited the museum at Harkers Island. Other days we enjoyed visiting Beaufort. Both towns had excellent restaurants with courteous and helpful service. If you are into birding the Cedar Island refuge marshes are nearby. We look forward to visiting again.

Perfect Get-away

  • 5 of 5

We look for special places, away from the regular tourist attractions, to relax and enjoy Down East places in North Carolina. This home was located on a dead end street in a quiet neighborhood with lots of history. Our bed was the best for sleeping. The home had many special decorative touches by Brenda that just made it so enjoyable when we were indoors. (The pictures on VRBO are good, but they do not do justice to just what a unique home this is). There were many extras we did not expect to find such as Kleenex in the rooms, a flashlight in both bedrooms, soaps and shampoos and cleaning items for the kitchen, and not to forget paper supplies were included as well. We enjoyed either sitting on the deck or going out on the covered pier where we enjoyed our coffee each morning watching the beautiful sunrise. We met a couple of the neighbors, and were sad to have to leave on the day we were invited next door for a fish fry. Richard and Brenda were wonderful hosts; it made it nice they lived across the street in case we needed anything during our day. We will come back again and hope to be able to stay a couple of days longer on our next visit.

Wonderful, spotless, beautiful

  • 5 of 5

Extremely nice place, has all you could ask for, Richard is easy to work with and ready to help in any way. The only negative thing the TV needs more channels, when the weather is not agreeing with your plans. The grill at the marina is great and the food and people are really nice. The weather was the only thing that kept our stay from being the best I have ever had anywhere.

Peaceful

  • 3 of 5

We stayed for a week last June, brought our two dogs. Was a peaceful stay. had to drive a lot every day to get to town or to find something to do if you're not one to sit around a lot. The house is average and could use some updating. The electric went off for about 4 hours while we were there. The rest of the time was fine and no issues. This is a great place if you don't have much interest in doing a lot of things while on vacation. We are wanderers and like to explore everything we can when we vacation, long drive every day. The owners were great and very nice. Kayaking in the sound was fun when the water was calm.

Owner's Response: We are sorry our beach cottage location did not meet all your expectations. We are located in a small rural fishing community on Core Sound in one of the few undeveloped areas along the NC coast. What we offer is a get a way from the hustle and bustle of urban life. If you are looking for a peaceful, quiet, relaxing location in order to enjoy waterfront views, kayaking, fishing off the dock, shallow draft boating this is the place.
