We loved Soundside Bungalow!

  • 5 of 5

We were very happy with our stay at Soundside Bungalow! The house had everything we needed, was amply supplied, and we absolutely loved the location. The views were wonderful! Though it is quite remote, it was worth our trip and just what we were looking for. You are within an hours drive to most everything you would be looking for. Bring your groceries and settle in for a wonderful relaxing time!

Amazing week

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing time we had at this property. I am not sure who wrote the 2 star review, but this person clearly wouldn't be happy anywhere they stayed. How could you be disappointed at this rental property? Let me list my top 5 reasons: 1. the location is absolutely stunning 2. the beach is not crowded and you do not have to fight for blanket space like you do at Myrtle or Wilmington...in fact you practically have the whole place to yourself 3. the property is stunning - spotless - new and with items that you don't normally get at a rental (condiments, toilet paper, paper towels, dish washing fluid etc.) 4. the ferry to Ocracoke is right there 5. the owners are super accommodating and kind. So, I feel the need to address one of the "concerns" from other renter who gave the two star review. When we stayed the owners were also on the beach with family and friends. Why not? It was beautiful and hot and the beach is not private. The beach is nearly desolate and we had more than enough beach to park our stuff. Actually, having the owners there made our trip more enjoyable because they were friendly and invited us over for a drink. They are wonderful people, the property is stunning, and trip was in my top three of all time. We will be back.

The owners lingered. No privacy.

  • 2 of 5

We were very disappointed that the owners had guests arrive to play on the beach, from 10am - about 5pm, directly in front of the home we thought we rented for a private get a way. Even though I had met and spoken with the husband (who was very kind) the first day, there was no mention there would be nearly a dozen guests ( or any for that matter) tent, bbq, dogs and all. As if chocking on truck exhaust and cigarette smoke (which were disposed of right in the sand) were not enough, they littered the water with deflated water balloons the kids were playing catch with, and the dogs trampled our towels and cell phone. We spent most of our day far out in the water, seeking some solitude.

We left our stay having used only 1 of the bedrooms, we were kind enough to load and wash every towel we used, we even cleaned and loaded the dishwasher for them, so that clean up would be a breeze. I spoke with Holly this evening via telephone. When she asked if i would leave a review, i gently brought up the privacy issues (as I hadn't planned on bringing up any of this to her) and expressed how shocked I was that she would allow her guests to set up there, knowing we were staying there. I also said we were planning on renting the home in the later part of August for my daughter's birthday, and I just wanted to make sure that if she did have guests, that they wouldn't set up camp directly in front of the home we were paying good money for. Perhaps they could set up in front of the other 2 houses next door, which they and other family members own. Her response was a very insincere and sarcastic "well, sorry" and then in regards to my next stay, she simply said "Check the calendar for availability.

It seems very much that since she offered us a deeply reduced rate, that I paid in cash no less, that she believed we should have just "put up" with the unprofessional manor in which she allowed events to transpire.

Such a shame, because the home is beautiful, although dusty, and that section of the Island is lovely. Not worth the trade off though.

On a last note, Holly, had you shown any concern at all, or even a sincere "I'm sorry", I wouldn't have left a review at all, and would've just kept the experience to my self. I little customer service goes a long way.

Owner's Response: As the homeowners of Soundside Bungalow we strive to provide a pleasant rental experience for our customers. It pains me that this renter had an unpleasant experience and I also find it troubling. Troubling in the fact that when I introduced myself to the renter at about 2:00 (after I arrived) she stated that everything was great, the house was beautiful and clean. They were enjoying the front porch and going back and forth from the beach to the house to work on a puzzle. At that time there was no mention of any issues. I even asked if everything was ok. To address guests being in front of the house. The guests were not directly in front of Soundside Bungalow they were actually in front of another property. Allen and Hollie Styron A personal note: I really went out of my way to accommodate this renter. Speaking with her for a while to work out a price that was comfortable for her. This renter was even (after her asking) allowed to check in early before the actual check in time. I feel like if there were so many issues that she would have mentioned them when I introduced myself on the beach. Hollie I

Perfect Solitude

  • 5 of 5

Hollie and Allen are wonderful hosts! The best! The beach house was built by Allen and is awesome! We loved everything from the big screened porch to the whimsical touch of carved dolphins on the steps and porch swing big enough to lay on!!! House was very comfy and felt like home. Views were perfect and the sunrises beautiful. Warm water and sandy beach. Best beach in front of house. Shallow water with clean sandy bottom. Perfect for small children. Occasional people on beach waiting for ferry but usually have it all to yourself! Beach on other side of ferry has wild horses and even cows!!! Sight to behold were the cows in the surf cooling off. Fresh fish and shrimp from Quality Seafood about a mile away and delicious crabs from Allen and Hollie! Wonderful quiet week. If you love to get away from everything, I highly recommend staying with the Styrons!!

Great place for a vacation!! If you are looking for a non crowded beach this is the place for you and your family. The best beach for children and pets. Allen and Holly are wonderful hosts and will attend to any of your needs.

The beach cottage is beautiful and the views are breathtaking. You will not find a better sunset. We will definitely rent the house again.
