I agree our contract is lengthy. We try to cover all things that we have encountered in the years we’ve been renting our home; and had to deduct money from the security deposit. The house is large and accommodates more people than most. This may be the reason we have encountered problems. Even though I attempt to screen all guest before renting. We want to be sure our Guests have complete clarity. We do not like to charge or deduct money from the security deposit. There is a copy of the contract and House rules attached to the VRBO site for potential guests to read, before they rent. We also explain that the charges are there as a deterrent for those people for those few people who demonstrate disregard for our home, damage it and make significant extra work for a house cleaners. Evidence of us not charging for every item mentioned, is the fact that we did not charge for the key that was accidentally taken home. Even though we had to make arrangements to get a key. for the guest who was coming in, immediately following your stay. Speaking of house cleaners, I do apologize for the miscommunication that caused the house cleaners to get to the house three hours early on checkout day. In retrospect, I should have insisted they leave rather than spend any time in the garage. The power outage was not a rolling blackout. We get notification of planned power outages and do not rent our home when there is going to be one. My understanding is the outage was some kind of equipment failure on our street. This is the first time we have had an unexpected outage. Thank you for the suggestion. We will make arrangements to put flashlights in the house. We did have flashlights at one time. They went missing with some regularity, batteries were removed and they were broken- I suspect from children playing. I think we will put flashlights back in the house and keep them on a very high shelf. So that they are available in case of a future unexpected power outage. Thank you for acknowledging that I did make every effort to keep you posted on the power outage. I know you went to the store to buy candles. We offered to reimburse you for your inconvenience and the candles. Our offer was declined. I apologize for the inconveniences you experienced during your stay. I will be in touch with you.
