About Nancy Thurston

My husband and I have always vacationed on the Oregon Coast. Our favorite town each visit was Newport. We decided to buy a home there in anticipation of using it as our retirement home. We fell in love with this house and enjoy having a place we can call home in Newport. I am in Real Estate and my husband is in Business Intelligence. We enjoy the outdoors, cooking, entertaining and travel. It has been fun putting our beach home together and making it our home away from home.

Nancy Thurston purchased this house in 2014

Why Nancy Thurston chose Central Coast

As my husband and I searched for the 'right' house to buy in Newport we kept coming back to this one as our favorite. This home had so many windows and let in so much light that I felt like I was outside. The deck gives us a view of the Yaquina Bay and a place to BBQ. We really like to cook and entertain so a good sized kitchen was a must. This home is a great floor plan for entertaining groups. There is room to get away from each other or gather all together. The windows let in so much light and allow you to watch the weather when it rains. If you watch outside you often see Blue Jays in the yard and an occasional Hummingbird The open floor plan is great for groups. We like having a 2 story house so if some want to sleep while others want to play, the bedrooms are downstairs and the family, living room and kitchen are upstairs. You can see the Bay from our deck and you can enjoy the Rhododendrons in the spring, they are huge!

What makes this house unique

Because we love to cook the kitchen is very well stocked complete with many spices and a good assortment of condiments. If you are a lover of Italian we have a fresh pasta maker, along with lots of pots, pans, utensils and knives so you can make whatever you like. If you get the chance to go crabbing, Newport is the Dungeness Crab Capital of the world! The house also has a washer and dryer for your convenience and there are extra linens and towels if you need them. There is a flat screen T.V. with surround sound and a DVR with lots of recorded movies to choose from for your enjoyment. We also have an assortment of cards, games, books and jigsaw puzzles to keep you entertained while you visit.

Great location!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 7 spent two nights here and loved it. The open living room was cozy and it was great to have the bedrooms downstairs. We were in town for a regatta on the bay and the house was just a couple of blocks away. We explored the historic downtown, walked across the bridge and spent a lot of time watching the sea lions, all without getting back in the car. Vacation! There was also a bottle of wine waiting for us after our long drive. Perfect!

Great family space

  • 5 of 5

The house was clean, well-equipped and well-labeled (even the light switches!). There is a great lay-out with most bedrooms downstairs and living space upstairs. Most everything one could need was handy- including a well-stocked kitchen with basic supplies. Our family enjoyed our stay, and hope to come back.

It is a very nice home!! Very clean and comfy!!!

  • 5 of 5

We used the house as a gathering point and was very comfortable. The dining room table is big so we could cook dinner in the very adequate kitchen and enjoy eating as a family!! The showers were great!! Lots of hot water :). The gathering room had lots of seating so we could all gather in the same room and catch up. But plenty of room to get away if you want some alone time. We are planning on makeing this a yearly thing and will for sure be returning to this home!!

Things to do in Newport!!!

Hatfield Marine Science Center-A series of informative exhibits at the Hatfield Marine Science Center gives visitors a glimpse of hot topics in contemporary marine science research.

Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area- Soaring more than 93 feet in height, this is the tallest lighthouse on the Oregon coast. This is a great hiking area.

Yaquina Bay Lighthouse- Nineteenth-century lighthouse is one of a few on the Pacific coast that was built with the light-keeper's quarters in the same building.

Newport’s Historic Bay Front- Wharf –Piers- Boardwalks –Shops- Restaurants- Oregon Coast Aquarium - Ripley’s Believe it or Not!

Oregon Coast Aquarium- Immerse yourself in the mysteries of the ocean. The Oregon Coast Aquarium is a world-class marine educational attraction nestled on beautiful Yaquina Bay in Newport, Oregon. The Aquarium is a living classroom for all learning styles and ages. As one of Oregon's top tourist attractions, the Aquarium is a vital educational resource for the state, with over 40,000 students visiting the aquarium each year. The Aquarium strives to be a center of excellence for ocean literacy and plays an active role in conservation and animal rehabilitation efforts. Recognized both locally and nationally for its outstanding exhibits and educational programs, the Aquarium is the 2011 and 2012 recipient of the 'Best Tourist Attraction' and 'Best Summer Camp for Kids' awards from the citizens of Lincoln County, Oregon. Parents Magazine, Forbes Traveler, USA Today, 10 Best(dot)com and Coastal Living named the Oregon Coast Aquarium among the top ten in the nation. The Portland Business Journal listed the Aquarium as one of the top five education-based nonprofits in the state and Spirit Magazine called Passages of the Deep 'The coolest 50 yards on the Oregon Coast. Devil’s Punch Bowl State Park- This is an incredible view... you don't get to walk down to it. You observe from the top. It used to be a cave and the top fell in... absolutely amazing to look at. There is a walk way that takes you around for a view of the ocean to the south that you see surfers. There are also tables to have a nice lunch with an awesome view. Great Wine shop there too!

Yaquina Bay Bridge- This bridge is deco and the detail used when constructing it is what is lacking today---flare. Don't miss the fact you can walk across the bridge at sunset or walk under the bridge from both sides. Take the drive toward Toledo at sunset or ride a bike, the light and sunset are amazing at that time.

Fisherman’s Memorial Sanctuary- Monument located in Yaquina Bay State Park that memorializes mariners who lost their lives at sea.
