About Nancy Thurston
My husband and I have always vacationed on the Oregon Coast. Our favorite town each visit was Newport. We decided to buy a home there in anticipation of using it as our retirement home. We fell in love with this house and enjoy having a place we can call home in Newport. I am in Real Estate and my husband is in Business Intelligence. We enjoy the outdoors, cooking, entertaining and travel. It has been fun putting our beach home together and making it our home away from home.
Nancy Thurston purchased this House in 2014
Why Nancy Thurston chose Newport
As my husband and I searched for the 'right' house to buy in Newport we kept coming back to this one as our favorite. This home had so many windows and let in so much light that I felt like I was outside. The deck gives us a view of the Yaquina Bay and a place to BBQ. We really like to cook and entertain so a good sized kitchen was a must. This home is a great floor plan for entertaining groups. There is room to get away from each other or gather all together. The windows let in so much light and allow you to watch the weather when it rains. If you watch outside you often see Blue Jays in the yard and an occasional Hummingbird The open floor plan is great for groups. We like having a 2 story house so if some want to sleep while others want to play, the bedrooms are downstairs and the family, living room and kitchen are upstairs. You can see the Bay from our deck and you can enjoy the Rhododendrons in the spring, they are huge!
What makes this House unique
Because we love to cook the kitchen is very well stocked complete with many spices and a good assortment of condiments. If you are a lover of Italian we have a fresh pasta maker, along with lots of pots, pans, utensils and knives so you can make whatever you like. If you get the chance to go crabbing, Newport is the Dungeness Crab Capital of the world! The house also has a washer and dryer for your convenience and there are extra linens and towels if you need them. There is a flat screen T.V. with surround sound and a DVR with lots of recorded movies to choose from for your enjoyment. We also have an assortment of cards, games, books and jigsaw puzzles to keep you entertained while you visit.
The house is very nice and well stocked. It’s very cozy and a good size for a group. I would rent again. Some of the guests questioned the “stay fee and insurance protection” charges. I didn’t want the insurance but couldn’t make the online reservation without checking it. The addl costs for those 2 items really drove up the price and unfortunately I got stuck with them. We did appreciate you letting us in early, thank you!
So glad you liked the house. We used to take a $300 refundable damage deposit. VRBO changed that and we have no abilty to do anything about that or their fees. They raised the fees to our guests and lowered our membership fees. Again, not in our control. I hope VRBO is monitoring your comments to hear your disatisfaction. I hope you will choose A Slice of Newport again in the future.
Beautiful, comfortable and cosy home that we totally enjoyed. Well appointed kitchen. Great!
Plenty of room and enjoyed the fire pit outside as well. Absolutely would come again and recommend to others
So happy you will think of returning and enjoyed your stay!
5 of us came to Newport for the Bay to Brews half marathon. The house was perfect for us. The space is beautiful and comfortable with lots of little nooks for reading and great light throughout the upstairs living area. Weather wasn't nice enough to enjoy the deck or the fire pit, but the outdoor spaces also looked very inviting. The four bedrooms and three baths were all comfortable and well-appointed. The kitchen was very well-equipped and came with a full complement of spices and condiments. All of us loved the house and some were strategizing coming back with their families.
I am so happy to hear it was a good fit. We look forward to hosting you and your families in the future!
Perfect spot for the family to enjoy everything Newport has to offer!
Really great property with all the basics and then some. Truly felt like home away from home.
Amazing place !
Nancy was awesome , super fast replies to any questions, great location and in my opinion way better than the photos !
Wonderful home with a lot of space.
I stayed in this wonderful home with my husband, children, and all the grandparents. There was plenty of space for us to gather together, and other spaces when we wanted to be in smaller groups. There were a lot of puzzles and games, the kitchen was stocked with all the essentials. We especially enjoyed the fire pit in the backyard. We would definitely stay here again.
We love it when families can enjoy being togethe in our home. It is a nice space to share some quality time together. Thank you for the kind words. Please come back!

Newport’s Historic Bay Front- Wharf –Piers- Boardwalks –Shops- Restaurants- Oregon Coast Aquarium - Ripley’s Believe it or Not!

As one of Oregon's top tourist attractions, the Aquarium is a vital educational resource for the state, with over 40,000 students visiting the aquarium each year. The Aquarium strives to be a center of excellence for ocean literacy and plays an active role in conservation and animal rehabilitation efforts. Devil’s Punch Bowl State Park- This is an incredible view... you don't get to walk down to it. You observe from the top. It used to be a cave and the top fell in... absolutely amazing to look at. There is a walk way that takes you around for a view of the ocean to the south that you see surfers. There are also tables to have a nice lunch with an awesome view. Great Wine shop there too!
Yaquina Bay Bridge- This bridge is deco and the detail used when constructing it is what is lacking today---flare. Don't miss the fact you can walk across the bridge at sunset or walk under the bridge from both sides. Take the drive toward Toledo at sunset or ride a bike, the light and sunset are amazing at that time.
Fisherman’s Memorial Sanctuary- Monument located in Yaquina Bay State Park that memorializes mariners who lost their lives at sea.
