Rustic charm at its best

  • 5 of 5

This cabin, rented over Thanksgiving, was even better than we had imagined. Placed at the end of a dirt road and driveway, it overlooks the Shenandoah River and the Blue Ridge mountains with a large porch for sitting and living room window for viewing. With no leaves on the trees the view was amazing and we watched the moon set. We were visited by deer, turkeys, wood peckers and many other birds, we even heard an owl. Yes, we cooked our turkey and ate it at the dining room table with a pleasant fire burning in the fireplace around the corner in the living room. There was ample wood stacked for burning. We grilled steaks on the provided Weber grill the following evening. The kitchen was stocked with the things we didn't bring for preparation. The appliances were all clean and worked exactly as needed. The beds were comfortable. The furnace provided warmth from the chill outside. We visited the nearby State Park and hiked, viewed Skyline Caverns and shopped historic downtown Front Royal. The cabin was clean, charming, well stocked, great appliances, and best of all, wonderful communication with the owner before and after the visit. Our group of five ranged from ages seven to sixty-five, for all of us, it was just what we wanted.

Owner's Response: Thanks for a wonderful review and we are so happy you enjoyed staying at our cabin. We are sorry you missed seeing the bald eagle who lives somewhere on the cliff or the young bear who visits sometimes. Hope you will come again in the summer when the river activities can be enjoyed.

Great cabin

  • 5 of 5

Great location...easy drive from D.C. (took us under 1.5 hours to get there [during non-rush hour]), secluded yet easy to get into Front Royal if you need stuff, and John was very responsive and helpful. We loved the cabin itself, especially the fireplace. We'll return!

New Year’s Get Away

  • 4 of 5

Fantastic location with wonderful views of the mountains and Shenadoah River. It’s a very relaxing environment near Front Royal with some wildlife in the area. Would suggest some more basic supplies (soap, trash bags, sharp knives) in the cabin.

Great cabin with great outdoor experience

  • 5 of 5

Cabin is in a great location with a nice secluded spot, yet still close enough to area resources (wineries, restaurants, activities on the river). The cabin itself was in excellent condition and clean. Also stocked with plenty of firewood and a few vouchers for free wine tastings at the local spots were nice too. All the appliances, shower, and bathroom worked well.
