We like living in this quiet neighborhood with lots of trees, views of the water, and trails for enjoying nature. Tilden Regional Park, rose garden, botanical garden nearby.
I had a great time here. The room was beautiful and clean. The house is spectacular and Jennie and her family were gracious and lovely. I highly recommend this place!
The house was absolutely beautiful. We had full use of the kitchen except the refrigerator. We were allowed access to a refrigerator downstairs. The reason I give this home a 4/5 is because we wish we had been better informed of what to expect upon our arrival. We didn't know there was a cat (one of us is allergic) or that a man was staying in the room across from us. We were informed after our arrival that a pit bull was somewhere in the house. We never saw him, thankfully, but it would have been good to know ahead of time. Parking was difficult because we had to park on the street. This was not disclosed to us prior to arrival.
I seldom use the word, but charming does come to mind with this neighborhood, and the house. It was quiet, felt very safe, and was a pleasant two mile walk to downtown Berkeley where I was attending a conference. The room and the bed were very comfortable. A missing feature was a comfortable sitting chair in the room. As quiet as the house and neighborhood were, the room is not soundproofed at all, so little noises are clearly heard. With those two caveats, I was very comfortable with the stay and happy to recommend the place.
I first found this home as a short term solution for my son who had relocated to the Bay Area for a new position. It was the perfect solution for his needs. Not only is the home in a fantastic setting in the Berkerley Hills with a stunning view of the bay but the owners Jennie and Richard are warm and welcoming. I recently visited and stayed for three weeks and I felt like I was staying with family. I enjoyed taking long walks to Tilden Park, Berkeley and Solano Ave. If you are adventuresome, you can try a An option to walking is taking a bus if you do not have a car. A bus stop is conveniently located near the home. If you are adventuresome, you can try a different cuisine every night of the week in local restaurants. The setting is very peaceful yet very near San Francisco, Napa Valley and other points of interest.
My stay was fantastic! When I was looking for a place only two weeks before I had to go to Berkeley, I was a bit stressed. Most of the people I contacted were just too cold and business-like. When I called Jennie (one of the homeowners) to inquire about the rental, she spoke with me for around a half hour. It was so nice speaking to a person who was able to answer all my questions and who genuinely cared. Needless to say, I took the room!
When I arrived at Berkeley, the hospitality continued. Jennie went out of her way to pick me up from the downtown Berkeley BART station so that I didn’t have to walk. It was an absolute pleasure to stay here for 3 months. The laundry room and kitchen are available to be used however you please, and a private refrigerator is also provided for guests. The house is amazing with a breathtaking view of the bay from the balcony.
Jennie and Richard are just wonderful people. They are extremely flexible. If you want privacy, they are happy to give you that, but if you want to be social, they love that too. They have offered me on several occasions to have dinner with them. We (together with another guest in the house) went to Yosemite National Park one weekend! I do not think I would have had the opportunity to go there otherwise.
The house itself is located in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods I have seen—the Berkeley hills. There’s a bus to downtown Berkeley running every half hour that has many stops on the same street as the house. It is also located within walking distance to Solano Avenue which is a nice place for going to restaurants or to do grocery shopping. I did not have a car here, and with a bit of walking, found everything convenient.
If in the future, I visit Berkeley again, I will definitely stay here! If they don’t have a room available at that time, then I’ll still call Jennie and Richard up and ask if they want to go out for dinner to catch up. I truly feel like I could not have found a better place to stay!
