Overview

About the property

100 Acre Private Forest Property Featuring A Secluded Creek-Side Cabin!

Just 15 min. from Letchworth Park, Cabin Creek Getaway features a secluded, rustic cabin right next to a cascading stream! With 100 acres of private forest, trails, and abundant wildlife, you can get away from it all, and be alone with just the people you enjoy spending time with!

THE SPACE:

The space is 100 Acres of private forest! Guests can bring a tent, RV, or... stay in our beautiful, rustic cabin!

The beautiful, knotty-pine cabin is off the grid, with options for rustic living or modern conveniences. Oil lamps give off a nostalgic, old-fashioned glow on the knotty pine walls, but solar power also provides convenient 12 volt electricity for lighting (and recharging your electronics!).

An old-time, natural heating wood stove turns the coldest of winter evenings comfortably cozy, but the LP gas furnace offers another convenient option.

Cabin Creek feels like stepping back in time with your favorite people, but with the comforts of an indoor composting toilet, hot showering, and 1/2 size refrigerator powered by LP gas!

Bath, body wash & shampoo, percolating coffee pot, fully equipped kitchen, firewood, and a small library of outdoor & self-sufficiency books provided.

We encourage and prefer our guests to bring your own bedding, but bedding is available at $15/bed, payable on arrival. Please let us know if you are requesting bedding.

Note: December 1 - March 31 is our Dry Cabin-Camp Shower Season. Due to our exposed plumbing, there is no running water available inside the cabin. Water is brought in for you, with dispensers provided in both the kitchen and bathroom. A camp shower is provided in the bathroom, and with water heated from the stove, hot showering is still available. Our composting toilet remains unaffected by winter weather.

GUEST ACCESS:

During the winter season, we maintain the road leading to the cabin, so no matter how deep the snow gets, you can drive right in to the secluded site! Our snow removal is provided compliments of John Deere!

Our guests enjoy relaxing so many different ways here: Inside the the beautiful knotty-pine cabin, visiting out on the large covered deck, sitting in front of blazing camp fires with wood provided, exploring along the half mile of cascading creek & waterfalls, getting out on miles of hiking trails, and seeing the abundant wildlife - 100 acres all to yourself! Adventurers will enjoy going down the 100' climbing rope to view the hidden water falls... the only way to find them!

INTERACTION WITH GUESTS:

Upon arrival, guests will be greeted for an orientation to the cabin, the property, and attractions in the surrounding area, which include Letchworth State Park (The Grand Canyon of the East). Housekeeping service comes once a day at a mutually convenient time. Just a quarter mile away, we are always available to respond to the needs of guests. Only one guest party is allowed at the property at any time, so it's yours to enjoy exclusively!

THE NEIGHBORHOOD:

The very best thing about the neighborhood is that there are no neighbors! The cabin is situated off a seasonal use road, right at the mouth of Cabin Creek ravine. Aside from the occasional vehicle traveling the road, you won't see or hear anyone who is not in your party!

We deliver a wonderful experience in a rugged area that is sparsely populated and seldom traveled.

We like to joke that the Cabin Creek night-life is dominated by the wildlife... but that's no joke! In addition to the ever-present squirrels, chip monks & racoon, it is very common to see deer and wild turkey in our forest. The yipping-howls of coyotes are commonly heard after dark while guests sit around the campfire, and seldom-seen bobcats can be heard calling in the night several times a year. Very rare pine martin have been spotted on the property, along with bald eagles & great horned owls. Bears do frequent our area, coming from the 7,700 acre wildlife management area across the valley. Believe us or not, during the 2015 deer season, an Eastern Timber Wolf was observed as it passed by 2 different tree stands, judging by its extreme size and near-black color (later one January night, long, low howls were heard along the base of the ridge. Definitely not coyotes!). So if you're looking for an experience in a wild area... this is as wild as it gets in the entire Northeast!

FUN ACTIVITIES:

100 foot climbing rope descending to hidden water falls (On your own).

.22 caliber handgun & rifle instruction & target shooting by appointment.

Canoe rentals & river float trips by appointment.

Guided hikes/mountain biking to beaver ponds & hanging bog by appointment.

Hot Air Ballooning over Letchworth Park (Outside Vendor)

White Water Rafting in Letchworth Park (Outside Vendor)

Fishing at Nearby Wildlife Management Area (On your own).

IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE:

Location! Location! The cabin is within an easy twenty minute drive to so many great attractions: Letchworth State Park (Grand Canyon of the East), Stony Brook State Park, Swain Mountain Ski Resort, The Mount Morris Dam, and 7,000 acres of State Wildlife Management Area. Wine country tours start within an easy 40 minute drive, and Niagara Falls is a little over an hour and a half away!

GETTING AROUND:

Cabin Creek is in a rural area. Guests will need their own vehicle to get from the cabin to state route 70, from which all area attractions are easily accessed.

About Terry Peck

We are a professional couple who enjoy many different outdoor activities: hunting, photography, hiking, camping, ATV riding, horse riding, and observing wildlife. We enjoy God's creation, and feel so blessed to be living in this beautiful area, and we enjoy sharing it with others.

Terry Peck purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Terry Peck chose Finger Lakes

We purchased the property for its proximity to our home, excellent Deer & Wild Turkey Hunting, cascading stream, and the peacefulness of the deep woods. The land offers us the opportunity to enjoy everything we love to do outdoors, and staying in the cabin makes 'camping out' as enjoyable as it gets! We love it!

What makes this cabin unique

100 acres of forest that you don't have to share with anyone outside your party... need we say more? Cabin Creek Getaway really is a place nearby, that takes you far away! The peacefulness of the deep woods, the sound of the water going over the falls in the creek, the breeze blowing through the trees, and all the natural beauty... it has a way of soaking in, and melting away all the stress we accumulate from our busy lives, It works for us, and we know it will work for you too!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Harry and his friends are very personable. If any person is the average of their friends, then these guys are far above the average. They took excellent care of our property and cabin, and did a marvelous job of cleaning before they left! When they were introduced to operating the wood stove and oil lamps, they paid attention, and quickly became adept. They are also young professionals who are very likable, and it's easy to see why they enjoy each others' company. We enjoyed getting to know them! We sincerely hope to see them return to Cabin Creek Getaway in the future!

perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

Extremely private and extremely cozy, booked two cabins(15 minutes walking distance of each other) for a family getaway. It was a very enjoyable stay. David was very helpful and his guide was of a great help. We initially planned to spend both of our days in Letchworth Park, but end up staying first day entirely on the property as trails were both fun and challenging. A lot of wildlife, I was most surprised by a lot of hummingbirds coming next to you every morning. I have never seen anything like that at NY, more fits for Costa Rica.

Owner's Response: Victor and his family were fascinating to get to know & visit with! Having lived in Russia, Israel, and Canada, they were so informative about what life is like in 3 different countries, and they also corrected a number of misconceptions that we had been given by our main stream media. They were fun to host, and took excellent care of our cabin & property! So glad they made good use of our 3+ miles of trails right on the Cabin Creek Property! Sounds like our Humming Birds enjoyed their company too! Come again any time Victor! David & Terry

RUSTIC

  • 2 of 5

This is a beautiful property with lovely views and great outdoor space in a quiet, serene setting. The deck/porch and fire pit provided a fabulous way for our friends and family to spend time together. The beautiful woods and nearby stream added charm and tranquility. The owner, was accommodating and flexible, as we arrived much later than originally arranged (a serious subway incident kept one of our party from arriving on schedule and caused us to leave much later than planned). The owner lives close by as well, in case you need anything.

There is no electricity and no way to charge your phone in a typical fashion. There is a cable that one could insert a car cigarette lighter type charger, so bring one if you need to charge your phone. The lighting is very dim, being supplied by lanterns and interior car lights mounted to the wall, so cooking may be a challenge. The stove and refrigerator are small, so plan accordingly.

This is a one bedroom cabin - it can sleep 9 or 10 with the two beds in the bedroom (one is a bunk) and the two futon type couches in the living room. Consider this if privacy is important to your party. Prepare to bring your own sheets or pay $15.00 per bed for this accommodation.

There is plenty of wood for the fire pit and this carries a charge, as well. Bring cash, as all charges are cash only. The owner also has a selection of locally sourced food items available. We didn't use this service, but fresh eggs, beef products and more are a plus and convenience for interested parties.

There is no flush toilet, but rather a composting toilet for which one scoops sawdust over the waste. Some composting toilets are designed to remove the waste from view when the lid is closed. In this case, the piles of sawdust covered waste remain until the plastic bucket is removed and replaced by the owner. He will come daily, during your stay, to take care of this, but also offers to have you take care of it on your own.

I broke a globe on one of the kerosine lamps while attempting to clean it (expected of the guest) and was happy to replace it. I was charged for a broken light fixture in the bedroom, as well. No one remembers any light fixtures anywhere, so we were confused about this. We were also charged for travel time for the owner to replace these items.

This cabin might work out for people who was want a rustic, off the grid, serene experience who don't require modern conveniences.

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure meeting Suzanne and her husband as they traveled from different parts of the country to celebrate the special occasion of their daughter's graduation from college. (Congratulations!) We love getting feedback from guests on what we can do to make future visits to Cabin Creek more enjoyable, and based on Suzanne's feedback, we changed out the 12 LED light bulbs throughout the cabin for a dozen much brighter incandescent light bulbs! We recently upgraded the cabin's 12 Volt solar panels to a 200 Watt system, so it was a good time to upgrade the light bulbs as well (THANKS for the suggestion Suzanne!). Guests frequently tell us how much they love the "Simplicity" of cabin life here at our property... right down to our all-natural composting toilet in our bathroom! As Suzanne noted, the medium we use is sawdust from cutting up firewood, and with no mention of distasteful odors or anything unsightly, it's another great testimony to how well our composting toilet works! And we really do compost the waste, so nothing is "wasted" here! Our composting toilet requires very little water to clean, so we are also preserving our very precious fresh water resource. How much water does your family waste every day flushing the toilet? Solar lighting & power, a composting toilet, wood-fired heat, gravity fed hot water, and completely surrounded by forest... Life here at Cabin Creek is as "Green", sustainable, and self-sufficient as you can get! Thanks again for choosing Cabin Creek Suzanne... We'll leave the (Brighter) lights on for ya! David & Terry

We had a very relaxing weekend here. There are many trails around the property that we could ride our UTV on. Very clean and well kept off-grid cabin. The owner is great to deal with as well!

Beautiful, cozy and just plain perfect!

  • 5 of 5

I am in love with Cabin Creek! This was our second time staying there and it's the only place we will consider staying. It is our perfect getaway. The cabin is cozy, warm and ready for you to step into and feel like you are home. The large expanse of forest and trails invite you to explore their many beautiful wonders. The creek is so beautiful and we've hiked up it both times we stayed. You'll definitely want boots though, in case you're like me and accidently step into a deep part of the stream! If you like photography like I do, this is a fabulous place to get out and shoot the beautiful scenery and wildlife. I took 200 pictures in just a couple hours time! The huge deck is a great spot to relax with your morning cup of coffee while listening to the birds and the distant train in the background. It feels like a step back in time. There's also a great fire pit to roast marshmallows and talk long into the night. It is a great place to either relax and unwind or get out and explore the many acres of forest. The cabin and grounds are immaculate and wonderfully maintained. Everything is ready for your arrival and you are greeted by the owners to help explain the features of the cabin, the grounds and all the great spots in the surrounding area you can visit. We've only had the pleasure of meeting Dave, but he is wonderful, gracious and very hospitable. He is the perfect host. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this place and its' owners. I highly recommend staying here. I am already looking forward to next year when we go! Thanks again for our great weekend!

A good place for retreat

  • 5 of 5

Our host, David, was so congenial at check in and throughout our stay. Both the cabin and the surrounding area are lovely. We enjoyed walking some of the trails on the property. Short drive to Letchworth State Park (Dunkin Donuts en route - yay)which we consider a highlight of any trip to Western NY. If you are looking for a quiet place to retreat, this is perfect, no internet, no tv - refreshing! We love trains, so enjoyed the occasional freight train whistles. Composting toilets were no problem, actually rather intriguing to use. Lighting is okay, a bit dim if you plan to do a lot of reading, but great for sitting and talking. Candles and kerosene lamps add to the nice rustic feel. Small fridge held all we needed for the few days, propane stove does the job, plus charcoal grill for meat and toasting marshmallows. Only small complaint was low pressure for the hot water, but we came out of the shower clean each day, regardless. If you appreciate being "green," this is a great spot. Recommended.

Owner's Response: We were glad Sharon chose Cabin Creek to retreat from the hectic world we live in... You really can get away from it all here! We were just as surprised (and pleased) when Dunkin Donuts put a coffee shop in at the intersection up the valley... Great coffee & donuts way out here! Our gravity fed water is at a lower pressure than the average home (20 psi v. 35 psi). What is still so marvelous is that you can take a hot shower in a cabin where there is no electricity! When we go to the cabin, we generally don't spend much time reading at night, but since many of our guests seem to enjoy a good read before bed, we're going to address that now that things have slowed down for the winter. Thanks again for choosing Cabin Creek Sharon! David & Terry

Wow! What an amazing place!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Wow! I couldn't say enough about this place to give the full effect. The cabin was extremely clean, comfortable, & had all the eccential needs to cook. The fridge was great to have. David was awesome. Explained in detail everything about the place, stores and restaurants around us and what's the best places to visit. The property is amazing. You have to go down the 100 ft rope. Awesome!! Will definitely be back. We had a group of 12 and everyone had a great time. We had one night of very hard rain, thunderstorm and still had great time. Not one complaint...

Owner's Response: Sarah and her husband brought their whole crew to Cabin Creek, and they were ready to make the most of everything the property has to offer! They brought a 4-wheeler to ride on the trails, and a gun to practice our fun Shooting Skills Drill on the target range! Sounds like they found the climbing rope to descend to our hidden water falls too, and had a blast! So glad the heavy rain storm on their last night didn't dampen their spirits... it was a real gully washer, but we built our very large covered deck for times like that, so Sarah's group could still enjoy the outdoors under cover! We're so glad you came Sarah! You were a lot of fun, took good care of our property, and we will welcome your return whenever you can come again! David & Terry
