Overview

About the property

Hidden Cabin on 100 Acre Forest Property 15 minutes from Letchworth Park

This 100 Acre Forest Property is just 15 minutes from Letchworth State Park, and features a very secluded, rustic cabin hidden deep in the woods. You can disappear here! No one will find you until you're ready to come out!

THE SPACE:

The space is 100 Acres of private forest! Guests can bring a tent, RV, or... stay in the cabin!

The off grid cabin is lit by old fashioned oil lamps for a soft, romantic glow, but also has convenient 12V solar powered lights. The LP gas fireplace is perfect for relaxing in the evening, getting cozy on the couch, or enjoying the view from the comfortable double bed! The beauty of the forest streams in with the sunlight through the large bank of windows! Morning coffee & evening toddies are accompanied by the sound of birds singing in the woods, and everything tastes even better on the large covered deck, which is also perfect for grilling as the sun goes down! Even during a passing summer shower, the soft patter of raindrops on the tin roof is so peaceful! We love coming here to be alone, and we know you will too!

LP gas powers the hot water, a cook stove, and 1/2 size refrigerator. The bathroom is complete with a natural composting toilet and hot shower. Bath, body wash & shampoo, percolating coffee pot, fully equipped kitchen, and a small library of outdoor & self-sufficiency books are provided. We have an outdoor fire ring w/firewood available for purchase for your outdoor camp fires. You can also get your own firewood from dead & down tops nearby.

Note: December 1 - April 10 is our Winter Wilderness Drop Camp Season. Depending on snow conditions, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to drive your vehicle closer than 1/2 mile to the cabin site due to snow depths & terrain. If the snow is too deep, we can take your luggage & supplies in and out for you with our machines, so you don't have to pack everything in!. The breathtaking scenery of the winter snow on the high elevation hemlocks surrounding the cabin make the inconvenience of reaching this remote location well worth it! Come and discover just how much fun it is being snowed in with the one you love! There's no place like it in the entire Northeast!

Note: During our Winter Wilderness Drop Camp Season (December 1 - April 10), the cabin is dry, meaning that there is no running water in the cabin. Water is hauled in for you, with dispensers placed in the kitchen & bathroom. A 12-volt powered camp shower is provided in the bathroom, and water is heated on the stove. Our composting toilet is unaffected by winter weather.

Guests need to bring their own bedding.

(Note: 12V system will not power appliances such as hair dryers, TV's, or electric coffee makers).

GUEST ACCESS:

Guests can drive in/drive out to enjoy the hidden cabin, large covered deck, outside camp fires with wood provided, cascading creek & waterfalls, hiking trails, and abundant wildlife. Adventurers will enjoy going down the 100' climbing rope to view the hidden water falls... the only way to find them! The Hide-Away itself is situated on 20 acres of high elevation plateau along the North rim of the Cabin Creek ravine. Relax & enjoy it all to yourself!

INTERACTION WITH GUESTS:

Upon arrival, guests will be greeted for an orientation to the cabin, the property, and attractions in the surrounding area, which include Letchworth State Park (The Grand Canyon of the East). Housekeeping service comes once a day at a mutually convenient time. Just a half mile away, we are always available to respond to the needs of guests. Only one guest party is allowed at the property at any time, so it's yours to enjoy exclusively!

THE NEIGHBORHOOD:

The very best thing about the neighborhood is that there are no neighbors! The cabin is situated off a seasonal use road, at high elevation on top of a ridge. Aside from the occasional vehicle traveling the road, you won't have contact with anyone who is not in your party! We deliver a wonderful experience in a rugged area that is sparsely populated and seldom traveled. We have two ways to access the property, but you will travel on a gravel road either way.

We like to joke that the Cabin Creek night-life is dominated by the wildlife... but that's no joke! In addition to the ever-present squirrels, chip monks & racoon, it is very common to see deer and wild turkey in our forest. The yipping-howls of coyotes are commonly heard after dark while guests sit around the campfire, and seldom-seen bobcats can be heard calling in the night several times a year. Very rare pine martin have been spotted on the property, along with bald eagles & great horned owls. Bears do frequent our area, coming from the 7,700 acre wildlife management area across the valley. Believe us or not, during the 2015 deer season, an Eastern Timber Wolf was observed as it passed by 2 different tree stands, judging by its extreme size and near-black color (later one January night, long, low howls were heard along the base of the ridge. Definitely not coyotes!). So if you're looking for an experience in a wild area... this is as wild as it gets in the entire Northeast!

FUN ACTIVITIES:

100 foot climbing rope descending to hidden water falls (On your own).

.22 caliber handgun & rifle instruction & target shooting by appointment.

Canoe rentals & river float trips by appointment.

Guided hikes/mountain biking to beaver ponds & hanging bog by appointment.

Hot Air Ballooning over Letchworth Park (Outside Vendor)

White Water Rafting in Letchworth Park (Outside Vendor)

Fishing at Nearby Wildlife Management Area (On your own).

IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE:

Location! Location! The cabin is within an easy twenty minute drive to so many attractions: Letchworth State Park (Grand Canyon of the East), Stony Brook State Park, Swain Mountain Ski Resort, The Mount Morris Dam, and 7,000 acres of State Wildlife Management Area. Wine country tours start within an easy 40 minute drive, and Niagara Falls is a little over an hour and a half away!

GETTING AROUND:

Cabin Creek is in a rural area. Guests will need their own vehicle to get from the cabin to state route 70, from which all area attractions are easily accessed.

About Terry Peck

My husband and I are professionals who both love the great outdoors! We have come to love everything that Cabin Creek has to offer with its beautiful forest, cascading stream, 3 waterfalls, abundant wildlife, and rugged terrain. Whether we're hiking, riding our horses, or 4 wheeling on the trails, we absolutely love it here! As much as we enjoy the beauty of God's creation that He blessed us with, we didn't feel right about keeping it all to ourselves. So, we invite you to come and enjoy it with us!

Terry Peck purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Terry Peck chose Finger Lakes

It's so close to home, and there really is no place quite like it! Our "Hide-Away" is so secluded amongst the hemlock trees, and it's nice being there all alone together. The deep woods are so peaceful, the sound of the stream cascading over the rocks is relaxing, and the waterfalls are simply beautiful! Then, as we go hiking, there's always the excitement of seeing deer, wild turkey, bald eagles, owls, pine martin, raccoons, and those ever-present squirrels! At night, we can hear the calls of coyotes, and even a bobcat once in a while!

What makes this cabin unique

Cabin Creek Hide-Away provides you with PEACE, PRIVACY and FREEDOM... 3 things that have to be enjoyed together, and are seldom found anywhere but the deep forest! Out here, our night-life is dominated by the wildlife!

Nice place but not motorcycle friendly

  • 3 of 5

The place was nice, the owner was hospitable, however, it was not motorcycle friendly - as the owner had told us when we inquired about the property. If you have a motorcycle, don't rent this place. I wish the owner would have been honest with us about the gravel road to get to the cabin. He was nice and drove us to the store to get some groceries since we could not even think about taking the motorcycle and then we could not go anywhere that evening. We left at 8 a.m. because we were afraid about getting the motorcycle out of there. I had to walk the entire gravel road since my husband was concerned about dropping the bike if I was on the back. Not a good place for motorcycles.

Owner's Response: First, we want to say we feel bad that Lynn & John didn't enjoy their stay at Cabin Creek, because we strive to provide everyone with a good experience. Regarding the motorcycle-friendliness of our property, we did respond to Lynn & John's inquiry with the following e-mail response: "The roads to the cabin are dirt roads, and rough in some places. The most direct way is up a steep hill (Rough, dirt road), but motorcycles do go up & down it. We can also show you how to go around and come in from the top side, which has a much more gentle slope. If all you are accustomed to riding on is pavement, then you might find this challenging." We know the road up to the cabin can be challenging for motorcycles, and WE ARE HONEST in telling people about it. What we have no way of knowing is what skill level, experience, and confidence people have on their motorcycles. It was easy to see that John looked a little frazzled after arriving at the cabin, so we drove them into town to shop, loaned them a cooler to pack full of ice & beer, and took them back to the cabin (Glad to help them out). John & Lynn are great people, very friendly, and we feel bad that the motorcycle thing got in the way of what should have been the wonderful experience that all of our other guests seem to enjoy here at Cabin Creek. We have another cabin 1/2 mile away that is very easy for motorcycles to access, so check out "Cabin Creek Getaway" on this travel site to see if it is available for you! We enjoyed meeting John & Lynn, wish them happy travels on their bike, and hope to see them again! David & Terry

Dave, (owner is very accomodating). Wonderful experience.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I decided to visit Cabin Creek for some much needed R&R. We met Dave at his residence and followed him for approx. 1/2 mile up to this remote cabin in the woods. It was exactly what we were looking for. If you'd like to spend a couple days visiting Letchworth State Park, this cabin is recommended. Personally, I don't like to fall asleep OR wake up to the sounds of strangers in their tents or cabins.....when I'm trying to get away for a nice quiet weekend. That's just me and everyone is different.... In any case, all we heard was the sound of small, gentle waterfalls and wildlife surrounding this cabin.

THANK YOU DAVE AND TERRY

Owner's Response: Now Eric and his wife have come to know what we appreciate most about our own time spent out there in our 100 acre private forest... there is nobody else around! Just you and the people you invited to be there with you... Perfect! Glad you came Eric, and we're also glad we could give you the experience we enjoy so much ourselves. There's no place for us like Cabin Creek! David & Terry

AMAZING!!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I needed an escape from reality when we came across this gem. It was perfect. More perfect than we even imagined. It sits by itself on top of a little mountain surrounded by evergreen trees. Waking up to the snow covered evergreens every morning was stunning. Not having running water in the winter months did not even bother us. There was enough water supplied and it was very convenient. Not to mention the cabin was extremely clean and cozy! We visited Letchworth State Park during our stay and it was stunning! Like I said everything about this place was breathtaking. Complete silence and secluded from the world! The owners were so generous and were filled with so many great stories! Some of the most down to earth and nicest people we have met. We are looking forward to our next visit asap!

Owner's Response: From the moment they arrived, we could tell Brittany and her boyfriend were going to enjoy their winter weekend at the Hide-Away... from the vehicle they drove to the gear they packed, they were well prepared, and a good match for the great outdoor experience we have to offer here at Cabin Creek! Very friendly & full of energy, they make a beautiful couple. Thank you for taking such wonderful care of our property Brittany; it was our pleasure to share it with you! We look forward to your return! David & Terry

Fantastic Hide-Away

  • 5 of 5

Just as the pictures show, this place is a great little gem tucked away nicely in the woods. From the time we made the reservations till the time we signed in, the owners were fantastic. A few small housekeeping directions and then SILENCE! If your looking for a place to escape from the world, this is it. Surrounded by woods, trails, creeks, and just nature, this place has it all. Ours was a ski weekend and the proximity to Swain was our lure. Enough amenities to feel comfortable and warm yet lacking items such as TV, Internet, traffic. We would like to thank David and Terry for providing this fantastic place as well as being some of the best hosts we have encountered. We will be back again.

Owner's Response: Now Brett knows why this is Terry's favorite place! Up on the North rim of Cabin Creek ravine, the cabin is hidden way back in the hemlocks! It's so quiet and peaceful there! Come again any time Brett! Cabin Creek has a different kind of forest beauty in each season of the year... it will be here waiting for you! David & Terry

Like a Fairytale! Romantic, Nature Filled, and PERFECT!

  • 5 of 5

I know this review is a little late...but better late than never! This cabin left us speechless. My husband and I stayed for a long weekend, and we were surrounded my beautiful tall trees, plants, hiking paths and gorgeous blue skies. The location of this cabin is PERFECT! Terry and Dave were complete sweethearts, very kind, accommodating, answered all our questions. The cabin itself was warm, cozy, and beautifully decorated. The open windows in ththe cabin were the most perfect thing to wake up to in the morning. I felt at peace, and it felt like we were just a part of the forest. When it rained we sat on the porch and that feeling of just quiet rain hitting the cabin, and us just looking out into nature was irreplaceable. It was a perfect time away from our busy lives. I would recommend this cabin because it's beautiful, intimate, one with nature, and the owners are wonderful! You will truly enjoy the time spent here. It's so important to just kick back and relax, to stop and smell the roses-this place is the way to go.

I cannot wait to stop by again!

Owner's Response: Tasneen's review made us smile knowingly! The utter peace and stillness of the deep forest around Cabin Creek surrounds and soaks into us all the time too! Even when we travel back in there to prepare the cabin for our guests, we always wind up pausing to drink in the sights, sounds, & smell of the forest. Twenty minutes will pass by before we even know it! What always dawns on us though, is that we are in a better place mentally & spiritually. We're so glad Tasneen discovered one of God's many blessings to us, and we were very happy to share it with her... Come again soon Tasneen! David & Terry

Perfect Getaway Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We were very impressed with the property. the scenery was beautiful, it was very peaceful, the cabin was well equipped, the water was very warm . .I would recommend this cabin to my friends and would love to come back again. Dave was a very outgoing, helpful individual with a great personality. He told us about the wildlife, places to visit. They have done an outstanding job in setting up this property.
