About this property

The Charter House formally known as The Charter Room. A 3 bedroom house for rent

Cozy three bedroom house. This use to be an apartment attached to our family home in Ocracoke, but we have moved out and opened the entire house. The part designed as a mother-in-law suite has a queen size bed(sheets are not provided) and a roll out single cot. Cable TV 32 inch flat screen and wireless internet in the master suite, a full bathroom with a large outdoor shower. You even have your own deck. The main part of the house is accessible through the laundry room and has an open floor plan and two bedrooms and a bathroom. Pets are allowed for an additional $50.

If you want to do early check in there is an additional $45 fee. It is extra added stress for our cleaners to have everything ready for those that get here on an early ferry. Normal check in time is 3:30pm and check out time is 11:00am. If you want to check out late it is a $100 fee.

We do NOT post on Craigslist, so if you see it there, it is not us renting it. We only go through VRBO/Home Away.

We do not offer refunds for weather related cancellations, ferry issues, or illness. We highly recommend that you purchase optional travel insurance.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

The Charter Housr

Ellen and Russel are amazingly kind and courteous hosts. Super responsive to messages and are willing to help however you need. We were able to rent a golf cart (for a great price!) through their company Buccaneer Rentals, of which two of the carts were on the premises—made rental very easy! Overall, we highly recommend.

Great little spot.

Tucked away but still close to everything. We loved it, and it came with Noodles, a delightful dog who came to visit at least every morning for kisses and butt-rubs :) Recommend.

Been off and on Ocracoke since I was a child. Growing up there in the summers. Have many friends there and spend as much time as I can on the island. I live in a small farming community and am also a farmer. Would like to retire to Ocracoke someday...that story was written a few years back. When Covid hit we moved to Ocracoke and lived here. It has been a wonderful experience. Our son graduated from Ocracoke School and we have loved living on the island full time. But we are now working on the retired portion of our life and decided that traveling would be a fun thing to do. So, you may or may not see us on Ocracoke!

What makes this property unique

We tried to make it similar to a nice hotel room to be familiar to everyone. Now the Charter Room, is open as a 3 bedroom house. This place is close to everything. If you like visiting Ocracoke you know about the local restaurants and bars. Golf carts are popular and for rent everywhere, even on site. Biking, clamming, shelling and fishing are just a few activities to do in Ocracoke.
