About Jan Henshaw
I was born and raised in Madison County. I have worked at my family's business for 20+ years as the bookkeeper and secretary. I also help with the family beef farm that surrounds the property and manage the Linwood Home. I have been married for 14 years. We have two children. I am a strong believer in feeding my family natural, fresh & organic food. If you are interested I am happy to prepare meals for you and your family during your stay! Please contact me about pricing.
Jan Henshaw purchased this Farmhouse in 1987
Why Jan Henshaw chose Rapidan
The home was purchased in 1987. In 2006 it was sold for retirement. The property went into foreclosure and my family was able to obtained the property in 2012. We decided to make the home a vacation rental because we enjoy escaping to the property and we feel that others will too. We are continuing to make improvements to the property.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
Linwood Home is a peaceful and relaxing escape from today's fast pace. The only sounds you will hear are the birds and wildlife. Enjoy gazing at the stars at night. Grab a book and read on the front porch swing. Sleep peacefully while the rain hits the tin roof.

Immaculate, spacious, charming home with every amenity!
The Linwood home was a perfect VRBO rental for us, while staying in Madison for my son's wedding. The house was large, spotless, and contained all amenities anyone could ask for! The master suite was #1 top notch! Only negative I heard was that the twin beds were somewhat uncomfortable. Thanks so much for the great stay! Only regret: it rained the entire time we were there, precluding us from doing some of the planned hikes/exploring. It POURED on the wedding day...can't control mother nature, unfortunately :-(
The Linwood Home is comfortable, spacious, and meticulously clean. The beds and bedding is comfortable too. The surrounding farmland is beautiful, and excellent for walks and visiting wildlife. The host has thoughtfully accommodated the home. We had everything we needed to relax while we were there, including a delicious pie! We greatly enjoyed our stay.
Back to Nature
We really enjoyed our stay. The house was clean, comfortable, the home was well stocked and most of all our extended family was all together. The property was very quiet and private. We took a small hike to enjoy the view. We would definitely stay there in the future.
What a beautiful, clean and very well organized (we loved how everything was labeled) home. The homeowner, Jan, has thought of everything including being available to answer any questions you may have during your stay. The extra amenities such as bottled water, laundry detergent, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, paper products, extra wood for fit pit including fire starter, marshmallow roasting sticks, outdoor and indoor toys for the kids, etc. makes your stay complete. AND the delicious pie waiting for your arrival is a perfect touch. The yard is very nice for children and adults both. The house seems remote but you’re close to wineries, town, hiking, restaurants, etc. We loved our Easter weekend get away!
Lovely get-away vacation home!
Our family of 8 really enjoyed this well-kept home, the fresh mountain air, and the open space to explore and bond in. Very close to Old Rag mountain. Highly recommend trying at least one of Jan’s home-cooked dinners; we did, and it was delicious. We will definitely be enjoying this home again!
Pictures do not do this home Justice
House is very well kept. And the host Jan went above and beyond the call to ensure that we had everything we needed. There was bottled water, coffee, plenty of fire wood and even a fresh blueberry pie in the fridge!
You can tell that these folks want their guests to enjoy themselves and it shows. The property is set in the middle of a large clearing and the star light show on a clear night under a fire is inspiring.
We hiked the White Oak to Cedar Run trail.
We have already said that we'd be back for another visit. Thanks Jan.
Thank you for the lovely review Michael. I am happy that we could make your visit so enjoyable. Please do visit in the near future. I think you would enjoy hiking to Bear Church Rock and Old Rag Mountain.
