About the property

6 Bed, 4.5 Bath, Grand Log Home; Retreats, Reunions and Events Welcome

When you think of visiting Tahoe or the majestic Sierra Nevada mountain range, THIS is the property you imagine yourself staying in. White Cloud Lodge is a unique, custom designed and built log home retreat. Stunning architecture using whole log construction. Soaring open truss ceilings designed to showcase the incredible long range views and Scotts Flat Lake views. Grand open floor plan with rock wall fireplace, multiple gathering areas, loft, and 7 private sleeping areas. Peaceful setting on 10+ acres with access to Pioneer Trail for hiking, biking and horse riding, but close in to Nevada City/Grass Valley and all the action up at Tahoe.

The amazing rustic log great room flows through to the kitchen and dining areas. 2 bedrooms are accessed behind the kitchen, and on the opposite side of the house, stairs lead down to a private den/sleeping area and a private bedroom. A full bath adjoins these rooms.

Up the stairs from the main level you will find first the master bedroom, and then the loft. The master bedroom has outdoor access to the granny suite, which is two stories. Currently the bottom story is a bedroom and the upper is a kitchenette.

A fenced yard is a wonderful safe place for kids to play. The expansive decks look out over Scotts Flat Lake from the main level, and the lower level has its own private patio.

Walking trails on the 10 acre property are gorgeous, and during the wet season there is a spring-fed swimming hole.

The quaint, historic towns of Grass Valley and Nevada City are a quick 12 minute trip down smooth Highway 20, a beautiful drive. Lake Access is 5 minutes away, and multiple areas for swimming are accessible on the Yuba and Bear Rivers.

Tahoe and all of the ski resorts are 30-45 minutes away. White Cloud Campground is walking distance for any overflow guests you might have.

About Peter Lemmon

We are a large family that enjoys all of the natural beauty of Tahoe National Forest. Currently we reside in Southern California but return to our dream home in the woods as often as we can.

Why Peter Lemmon chose Gold Country & High Sierra

The feeling of peace that this property gives you is incredible. Hear the wind blow through the tops of the evergreens as you watch a storm blow in over Scott's Flat Lake and sip a beverage while you enjoy your family and friends on the deck.

A wonderful getaway for the family

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed an early Christmas at White Cloud Lodge and loved the setting, the intriguing architecture, and beautiful view. The sunsets were amazing to watch from the front deck, and the wood stove in the great hall kept everyone warm and toasty. And the stars...saw so many stars in the un-light polluted sky that Orion, Taurus, Cassiopeia, and the planet Venus shone brighter and more complete than we've ever seen them.

A True Joyful Family Gathering Place

  • 5 of 5

Words cannot express the joy and comfort me and my extended family experienced during our stay at White Cloud Lodge. The Lodge is beautifully built, big while keeping a warm cozy feeling in the mountains. The view of Scotts Flat Lake and the sunset while relaxing on the deck is incredible. I found the beds very comfortable and the house well stocked with extra blankets, pillows , and kitchen needs.

It was my 50th Birthday and we had a gathering of friends from the greater bay area and could not have chosen a better place in the mountains near the sweet town of Nevada City to gather. We all felt it was the best time we'd had all year!

Dan Horton was a pleasure to be the person to call for questions and needs. He is very welcoming, encouraging, and personable.

If you are thinking of having a retreat or small gathering of any sort or just a family getaway, I highly recommend White Cloud Lodge!

Mountain perfection!!!

  • 5 of 5

The moment turned down the driveway from Highway 20, I knew I was in the right place. As the house began to show itself, I was filled with a comfort and calm one usually associates with returning home or seeing a family member. For my first VRBO attempt, I'd selected an absolute winner and couldn't believe where I was lucky enough to be standing.

As I entered, the piano, the open space, the card/game table, the magnificent decks and views, and (best of all) the peaceful feeling that hangs over the whole house filled me with such joy that I knew I was in the perfect place for my weekend in the mountains.

I can't say enough about how perfect this property was for my needs, but also, I'd like to give a special thank you to everyone (I don't want to give out any names) I spoke to with regard to this house. You couldn't have been kinder and more welcoming. Many many thanks to you as well.

I hope anyone who has the privilege of seeing this little mountain paradise enjoys it as much as I did.

Special place—beautiful, comfortable, spacious.

  • 5 of 5

- Attentive, available, and responsive property manager

- Flexible with check-ins and allowed us to arrive earlier in order to prepare a meal and after sending a last minute text from the house, allowed us to check out later than scheduled and even gave me an extra hour on top of my request!

-House was so spacious, room for everyone to spread out and be comfortable. Plenty of seating.

-Wheelchair friendly, tons of space around all furniture, hardwood floors, large expansive and spacious great room where people tended to congregate.

-Incredible view

-Didn’t get to check out the trails because of constant rain, but even in those conditions the house was so comfortable.

-Loved having two fireplaces in the great room, we ended up congregating by the main fireplace (dining room table area) the entire time and even ended up pulling over more chairs just to sit and enjoy.

-Kitchen was great to use, pots, pans, and utensils met our needs and we did a lot of cooking!

-Great to have a small market nearby

-Close to Nevada City (about 15 minutes out and it’s a lovely drive through tall trees)

-Had a great time

Beautiful Home and Location

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful stay at this beautiful log home. The location could not be more beautiful, with tall pine trees everywhere, with a view of a lake in the distance.

There is a great trial near the home that is great for runners and mountain bikers. Nevada City is close by for food and other necessities. Lake Tahoe was about an hour away. This was definitely a five-star stay for our family.

Was Good, could be great

  • 4 of 5

This house is beautiful and in a very nice setting. We loved the open floor plan, and the many different sleeping areas. Great view and nice yard to enjoy. What could be improved... The kitchen just needs some updating with the appliances. If you stay, bring your favorite cooking utensils because they are a little short. The house uses propane for cooking, so that (combined with the altitude) makes cooking a little slow. Just give yourself extra time.

Our group of 12 felt that with a little refinement this house would be remarkable. As it is, you get a very nice space to share with families, singles, or couples at a fair price. We WOULD stay again. Thanks Celeste :)

Owner's Response: We are glad you enjoyed your stay! Generally when guests have issues with the way the kitchen is appointed we encourage them to let us know during their stay. We have no problem with running things that are needed up to the property! I've added a few more wooden spoons to the set of utensils - there was a full set, but I can see how with multiple cooks you may need more. :o) Many people in this area choose propane ovens so that in the event of a power outage, they can still bake. Although White Cloud Lodge has an automatic generator, we prefer to keep the oven propane just in case. :o) The Wolf range, Sub-Zero fridge and dishwasher are all high-end appliances. Again, we appreciate your input, and hope to see your wonderful group again in the future. :)
