About the property

Close to Everything--Modern Touches in Beautifully Renovated Victorian.

We invite you to make yourself at home and enjoy a truly unique Portland experience. Feel the pulse, and hear the sounds of the urban activity in our central location, smell the wafts of nearby restaurants preparing gourmet delights, see the bright colors of artists in action right out the front door. Surprises are always around the corner in this safe and creative Southeast Portland neighborhood.

The Belmont House is a solar-powered, newly finished renovation/conversion of an 1886 Victorian in the heart of the Rose City. The 1 bedroom main floor unit sleeps 4 people. The bedroom opens to the back with an outside, private, covered sitting porch--a great place to sit at the bistro table enjoying a quiet, secluded moment looking out at the beautiful landscaping and large backyard. There is plenty of space to congregate. Enjoy the front parlor, sit in the dining room with fireplace and books, or gather in the kitchen, pulling a stool up to the concrete counter tops. The stone patio, which magically lights up with sparkly lights after dark, is a great place to be in good weather. When the weather starts to cool, the fire pit can extend your outdoor time and add to the romance of your stay!

About Deb Grant

The 'small city, big town' aspect of Portland is what drew us to Portland 25 years ago. I'm a Montana girl who loves the vibrancy of an urban atmosphere and the culture of both the countryside and the town. My husband Chuck and I have partnered on many projects through the years. He currently lives on site, and I live a mile away. We enjoy working together and have put a lot of love into the Portland Belmont House. We now enjoy sharing it with others.

Deb Grant purchased this apartment in 2011

Why Deb Grant chose Portland

We bought this property because of its location, bones and vibes! 128 years of stories to tell. A diamond in the rough with unique character and hidden elegance made it a place worth putting our heart and soul into renovating. The rustic concrete counter tops and restored original cabinet (found on the back porch) balance out the vibrant splashes of color and high end appliances of the kitchen. Solar panels, stagger studded walls, and ample insulation look to the future while the 8' wood pocket doors, original fir floors, and intricately carved wood work reveal the past. All new electric and plumbing, and sound absorption channels between floors, help remove the unnecessary aggravations of the past to better enjoy the beauty of the space.

What makes this apartment unique

The Belmont House provides a quiet, comfortable home stay within a vibrant, fascinating part of Portland. We are 3 blocks from the famous Sunflower Intersection at SE 33rd and Yamhill, a uniquely Portland part of Portland. The house charms people. The great yard, patio, barbecue, (and fire pit too!) make a person feel out in the countryside, yet, only a block and a half away are the shops, world class, affordable restaurants, gourmet grocery stores, food carts galore. Public transportation is a stone's throw away. Drive down the street and you are in downtown Portland in 4 minutes. Everything you need right out your door.

The perfect place

  • 5 of 5

Perfect location. Bars, restaurants, cafes, bakeries, Portland favorites are all within walking distance. The outside patio was very nice for hanging out. There is plenty of place to prepare and store food and snacks, hanging up clothes and sleeping without feeling to cramped.

Peaceful haven in an interesting neighbourhood

  • 5 of 5

The house matched our expectations - everything was as we expected from the photos and description. Deb was lovely and easy to deal with. One of the nice unexpected things was that we really enjoyed the shared garden space and had some nice interactions with other travellers staying downstairs.

We heard people walking about upstairs but it was nothing that would bother me at all.

We were travelling with our kids aged 4.5 and nearly 2, and we found plenty to suit them in the neighbourhood - they enjoyed the park at Sunnyside school (and the chickens there!) and Laurelhurst Park, and we found plenty of low-key kid-friendly restaurants nearby.

Perfect Portland Spot!

  • 5 of 5

We chose Deb's charming home for our stay in Portland and couldn't have asked for a better home base! Having never visited the city before, the five of us were delighted to find the home was located on a quiet street within walking distance to some of the city's best restaurants, shops, etc. (Do yourself a favor and go get ice cream at Salt & Straw. We're still dreaming about it.) The house was spotless and well-stocked with everything you could need in a kitchen, extra linens, a washer and dryer, and the cutest little backyard--perfect for grilling out or lounging. There's one main bedroom, as well as a living room that transforms into a second bedroom with a Murphy Bed and sliding doors. Our fifth person slept on an air mattress in the middle dining room area and was happy as a clam. Corresponding with Deb was a breeze, as she was always quick to respond whenever I messaged her. She even let me check out an hour and a half late, so I didn't have to lug my bags around while I did some last-minute exploring. All in all, a wonderful experience and we are so thankful to have been able to spend time here! Thank you!

Great place

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at the home and will definitely stay again. It was clean, spacious, comfortable, and had everything you needed. The beds are comfortable. It has nice outdoor space. Although we thought it would be nice to have a lawn chair or two outside to nap. It was surprisingly quiet for how close to everything. Deb was great and let us keep our luggage at the house until our flight took off. It is a beautiful home and we can't wait to go back.

Owner's Response: We had not thought of a lawn chair! Thank you for the suggestion. We have plenty of outdoor chairs--on the roof deck, the stone patio, and the back porch, but a lawn chair had not crossed my mind. Will add it to the bucket list.

A lovely place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 5 or 6 days to explore portland with our three young children. The host was very accommodating and communicative leading up to our stay. The house was beautiful and very well appointed and we were so happy and comfortable the whole time. The only caveats would be that this is not a residential street so there is street noise if you sleep in the front room (this did not bother us at all but if you are very noise sensitive, you should consider) and there was a full set of stairs leading up to the property (again, we loved this place but it was a pain to get all our stuff and our bikes all the way up and down) so you should consider that. Overall wonderful experience and home!
