When we decided to take our life on the seas and transform them into a land based adventure, we considered all the places we had visited while living on our boats, and while traveling through Mexico and South America. What we loved the first time we, (by chance), drove into Esterillos Oeste, was the quiet & the quaintness of this little fishing/surfing village. It reminded us of what we had always loved in the non-touristy towns we had encountered in our travels. There was a genuineness, and friendliness in the people we encountered. Then when we visited Villa Sirena, and experienced the view, the sounds of the ocean, the everchanging coastline, and the tranquility of the property, we knew our search was over. We had come home.
When we had decided Costa Rica would be our home, we spent several weeks pouring over real estate listings and visiting properties from the northern part of the Nicoya Peninsula to the Southern towns of Dominical & Ojochal. There were several homes of interest, but when we began to honestly evaluate the properties, Mermaid View Villas stood out from all the rest for several reasons. (1)The quaintness of the village. (2)The proximity to Jaco and it's prevalence of good restaurants, nightlife, and shopping. (3)The ever-present cool ocean breezes that flow through the house. (4) The closeness to Manuel Antonio, the most visited National Park in Costa Rica. (5) The absolutely spectacular beach within easy walking distance. Walk one direction on the beach and you have beautiful, breaking waves with a steady stream of surfers. Walk the other direction, you have 7 miles of protected coastline where turtles nest, monkeys are in the trees, and brilliant macaws are your walking companions. (6) Delightful, on property, care takers, Desirae & Kealy, who are there to answer questions, solve problems, and make suggestions about where to go and what to see to make your vacation absolutely memorable. (7) Walking through the front door, you are met by the most fantastic view on the planet...the beach, the waves, the tidepools, the statue of La Sirena, and the coastline, all the way to Manuel Antonio!

Lovely property, clean and beautifully furnished. Lots of room for 6 adults! The managers on the property really looked after us well. Only a 10 minute walk to the beach and the beach is miles long!! Note the walk back to the house is up a fairly steep hill. The other issue about location on "Canada Hill" as it is called, was more concerning. The locals burn their garbage daily (we even saw plastic in their burn piles!) where they live in town by the water and the smoke drifts upwards. It felt like we were breathing toxic fumes for hours. Sadly it often made it hard to enjoy the vista and pool area.
Gosh, we had a spectacular time at Mermaid View Villa! Everything about it was simply perfect - the home is incredibly beautiful, inviting, and relaxing. We lounged in the pool a lot and took strolls on the beach! And we didn't mind cooking or doing dishes with such a gorgeous view! We saw toucans, macaws, and had daily visits from the friendly iguana! The location was perfect -- it gave us a sense of life in Costa Rica. And we had beautiful adventures nearby - Rainmaker, Manuel Antonio, zip lining, and surfing! Brett, at the local surfing instructor, got our seven-year old son up on his first try. He loved it. We all loved it! The only problem with it was that we had to leave!! Many, many thanks to Brenda and Desirae for being excellent hosts. We hope to return someday!
We are a family of four and had a fantastic time in Costa Rica. The grounds are secure and the property is out of this world. We all loved the lap pool and it was unbelievable to be able to see the ocean from the pool as well as almost every area of the house including the shower. We loved eating outside every night. There are tons of extras in the house making it a dream to stay in. As it was quite humid when we we there we did use the air conditioning in the bedrooms at night. There is a breeze during the afternoon but the early morning and later evening are humid. Our only suggestion would be to put a unit downstairs that way when you are watching tv is is more comfortable. Thanks for a wonderful haven away!
This is a gorgeous, centrally-located incredible villa, with the most gorgeous decorations and surfaces. The pictures give an idea of how beautiful it is, but it's even more beautiful in person. The climate here was perfect for swimming and lounging. The tile and wood throughout the house, along with a wonderful hilltop-cross breeze, keeps it cool inside, making sleeping quite comfortable. Very comfortable beds and spacious and luxurious guest and master suites. There were 4 of us there, but easily could have slept 6. We cooked in several times, enjoying the large kitchen and big, wooden patio table. There were plenty of delightful nearby eating options as well. Wifi worked well.
We,(my husband and I) stayed for one week with my daughter(20 months old) and another couple of long time friends of ours. We had a great time. There were a few things that had to be fixed when we arrived but Desirae did her best to get them fixed as soon as possible.
The views are spectacular, the pool is awesome, the master bath is indescribable, taking a shower and taking in that view has to be experienced!! Eating out on the porch was great we loved the lazy susan, could not have done without that. Everything in the listing is true about the area and the location, you can't pick a better spot in Costa Rica to spend your vacation! We will do it again in the near future, my advise go longer then 1 week. Book this place you will not regret it!!!!
