The suite has a private entrance to the grand front porch where you can enjoy breakfast, swing, rock in the comfortable chairs and take in the breathtaking sunrises and sunsets over the bay. You will sleep in one of two very comfortable antique beds that are outfitted with luxurious linens. The 14-ft. ceilings and hardwood floors are original, dating from 1840. The doors to the suite are also original - all cypress french doors, 12 feet high with twelve panes of pre-civil war glass. Many visitors have commented that we have the best view of the bay. You can choose to enjoy your breakfast on the porch, in your bedroom, or in the formal dining room reminiscent of evening soirees and gentlemen callers. You will be pampered, and waited on and regaled with stories of the house. Your two-bedroom suite is situated in the south wing of the house, separated from the north wing by the grand hall. Sitting on the settee, and gazing out onto the bay allows one to enjoy a magnificent view any time of the year.

About Sally Hogue

Hello! Bonjour! How excited we are that you are considering a visit with us in our historic home. The house has been in the family since 1917 and is furnished with 6 generations of belongings that make it a unique place to stay. My name is Sally Simons Hogue, and I am the niece of the beloved owner of 60 years, Dorothy Simons Phillips. Although I did not grow up here in Bay St. Louis, I spent a great deal of time here with my grandparents, Bud and Marie Taconi, and many holidays with my aunt and uncle, Dorothy and Milton (Bud) Phillips. My parents grew up here. Mom is Flora Taconi Simons who attended St. Joseph's Academy, and dad, Russell Simons, attended St. Stanislaus. I was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. I went to Archbishop Chapelle High School and became a proud LSU Tiger in Baton Rouge. Upon graduation, I moved to Houston where I worked in oil and eventually became a teacher. After teaching for 25 years,(French and English in high school) I had to opportunity to move home! Aunt Dot (as we affectionately called her) was getting older, and I came to Bay St. Louis to be with her. We lost her much sooner than any of us wanted or expected. We miss her terribly. She was the quintessential hostess and a fabulous cook. She loved this old house, and once when Uncle Bud thought they might sell this one and build a new house, she cried the entire way to Diamondhead ( a beautiful suburban community a few miles north). She couldn't bear to leave what my father often called ' A piece of paradise.' When I moved here to be with her, she said, 'Well, you are the one who has always loved Bay St. Louis.' And I truly do. It is my honor and privilege to be able to continue in her dedication to family, tradition, cuisine, and true Southern hospitality. It is such a blessing for me to be entrusted with the care of such beautiful historic landmark as this house. I am the only one living in the house now. The family agrees that it should be shared!

Sally Hogue purchased this house in 1917

Aunt Dot's B&B A Beautiful Home....Wonderful Hosts!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, daughter, son (in law) and I had a lovely 2 night stay in Aunt Dot's B & B. We were visiting because my daughter and her husband wanted to see where I grew up.......beautiful Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.

I did not know our hosts, Sally and Joel, but I did know Sally's Aunt Dot, who had owned the antebellum home. She was one of my teachers in grade school.

Sally and Joel are the perfect hosts. They explained the history of the home and answered all of our questions about the re-birth of Bay St. Louis after Hurricane Katrina devastated the area.

We all hope to see Sally and Joel again!

Aunt Dot would be proud!

  • 5 of 5

I had the privilege of staying in this venue when privately owned. Sally and Joel are recreating the same gracious atmosphere in Aunt Dot's B & B. The restoration of this historic property after Katrina has been stellar. The food is bay excellence with New Orleans flare. From the porch, guests can enjoy afternoon snack, sunrise view of the bay, or lights twinkling from the bridge and marina. It felt like home again when we drove up. Sally can entertain you with the stories I grew to love years ago. Thanks, Sally and Joel. We will be back!

Aunt Dot's in Bay St. Louis was a Wonderful Place

  • 5 of 5

Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed Aunt Dot's Bed and Breakfast ,in Bay St. Louis, MS. The owners, Sally and Joel, could not have been nicer, sharing true Southern Hospitality! The home was spacious, with 2 bedrooms,a bath, a formal living and a den. Charming decor, with beautiful antiques, laced the home, with photo's and memorabilia dating back , as far as the 1800's. The owners shared lots of the homes history and it's journey back to restoration after hurricane Katrina. I think my favorite was the view from the front porch swing, overlook the Bay, with all it's beauty, as we had our morning coffee! A scrumptious breakfast, with wonderful conversation with Sally and Joel, was shared each morning. At night ,we were within walking distance from the wonderful beach restaurants and shops. We had such a wonderful time, Aunt Dot's is going to be our new home, away from home, when we visit the MS Gulf Coast!

Aunt Dot's Bed and Breakfast is located in Old Town Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, listed as one of the Top Ten Beach Communities in the United States by 'Coastal Living' magazine. Bay St. Louis was founded in 1699 by Sieur de Bienville for King Louis of France. A mural in the heart of Old Town depicts the town's rich history. During your stay, you will be only 1 block from the best dining establishments and recreational destinations that the town has to offer. Additionally, you will be within walking distance of antique shops, novelty shops, and galleries in a historical beachfront setting. Each Second Saturday of the month you can join the town for fun, food, and entertainment at the monthly ArtWalk. We are located just an hour's drive east of New Orleans and are said to be one of the best kept secrets of the Gulf! You will be able to taste seasonal culinary delights of the region, stroll along the brand new board walk along the bay, next to the Bay St. Louis Marina, and purchase exceptional artwork in any of the numerous art shops. You may take a biking tour or a walking tour of the town. Important, beautiful, historic sites include Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, Saint Stanislaus College (established 1854), The Bay St. Louis Train Depot, St. Rose de Lima Church which has a famous mural, St. Mary Cemetary, Main Street with all of its small shops, and the Hancock County Courthouse. For your convenience, you may rent a bike at Bay Breeze, located at 111 Main St. If the water beckons you, rent a kayak, dock your boat at the marina, go swimming or jet skiing. Are you a fisherman? Just across the street from our property is the Jimmy Rutherford fishing pier, open to the public 24/7. Speckled trout, redfish, flounder, croaker are only some of the fish to be caught here.
