Martha and Lisa were married in 2008 and moved to Hawaii in August of 2014. Martha is currently a practicing attorney and Lisa is a recovering attorney looking for life balance, island style. They are loving Hawaii's welcoming aloha spirit and look forward to sharing it with others.
LISA ALTMAN purchased this apartment in 2014
Great location, nice view, and the opportunity to sculpt our own perfect piece of jungle. Also, the house was specifically designed and built with 2 independent apartments and is perfectly positioned for vacation rental.
This property is close to everything; great snorkling beaches only minutes to the South, great turtle beaches due West of the property and great swimming, surfing and whale watching beaches just minutes to the North. The property is also centrally located between multiple tourist attractions ranging from Volcano National Park, to various historic sites, to elegant plantations, spectacular botanical gardens, and tropical adventures including kayaking the Kohala flume, ocean kayaking, and zip lining in Hawi.
We enjoyed our stay very much. The apartment was comfortable, clean and had everything that we needed. The tropical garden on the property is beautiful. We loved watching the stars from our bed at night through the big bedroom windows.
We had a wonderful, relaxing time at this property in Kona. Lisa and Martha are the perfect hosts, taking care of every need and wish. They supplied us with fresh papaya and limes from their garden every morning. The apartment is tastefully done and the bed is extremely comfortable. The view from the lanai is exquisite. The bird sounds and the gentle breezes lulled us into a deep relaxation. We would definitely stay here again.....and hope to soon!
We spent 10 days at Lisa's place, over the Christmas break, and it must be said that it was the most perfect place to spend the holidays.
We arrived late at night and there were nice cold drinks, fruit, breakfast goodies and snacks left for us. The suite was just as pictured on VRBO. Waking up the next day to the sounds of tropical birds was a real treat. I loved the large garden that has been tended to with TLC. I sat for half an hour and took photos of the geckos crawling around the yard. The papayas fresh from the trees tasted so much better than the supermarket variety.
Lisa and Martha were super helpful, giving us ideas and maps of how to get to some of the places we wanted to see.
It was also so nice to have snorkelling gear, towels and beach chairs to use while we were there.
Loved snorkelling, boogie boarding, and going up to the volcano...first time I've seen lava.
Will definitely return some day. The big island is so amazing
Thanks again for everything Lisa and Martha

We've visited Hawaii and especially Kailua-Kona multiple times and finally discovered a home-away-from-home. This is the Ohana we'll revisit every time we return. We've recommended it highly to our friends and relatives on the Island to suggest for their visitors. Most of the locals don't have a place to recommend that would provide what we discovered in their back yards.
It's a 5-star accomodation with a laid back atmosphere and everything you could possibly need for any length of stay. With less than a 10 minute drive to the village you can't beat the serenity when you're in the Ohana.
During our 12-night stay we celebrated a birthday and wedding anniversary at Hale Pamahoa and wouldn't change a thing! Every expectation was met and most often exceeded by Lisa and Martha's attention to detail and their eternal efforts to make our stay the best it could be. Upon arrival we were greeted cheerfully and respectfully and this continued throughout our stay and even now that we are home.
Not one thing was missing from the Ohana's furnishings and supplies. As a matter of fact an abundance of non expected items were included from snacks, fresh picked fruit, beach and swim gear - all of very good quality. When we had a need (electrical tape, binoculars, maps...) Lisa or Martha was there to either furnish the item (instantly) or privide the easiest way to get it ourselves. We had privacy, peace and quiet on the end of a cul-de-sac. The grounds are splendid!
We've traveled extensively around the world and have finally found a place that we will return to every time we visit the Big Island. If only we could find the same accomodations everywhere we go our vacations would all be perfect.
Maholo Lisa and Martha!
With regards and much respect.
See you next time...

We have stayed in vacation rentals all over the world, and this is my favorite. From snacks and beverages waiting for us after a long flight, to clean everything, to beach supplies to borrow, I could not ask for a better hostess. Many rentals say they have beach supplies to borrow and there is one grubby chair that falls apart when you sit in it. Lisa and Martha had chairs and umbrellas and snorkels stuff and boogie boards and everything was clean and working. This is huge for convenience and cost savings. The location was great, 10 minutes from the airport or downtown Kona, but you still feel completely secluded. Drinking coffee in the garden would have been enough for the entire vacation, except for switching to beers in the evening. I cannot say enough good things about this place, rent it and see for yourself.
We stayed here a couple nights while visiting the Kona side of the Big Island. The apartment was very nice and new, with a nice west-facing lawn and a garden with fruit trees. Super convenient to Kona and what's around, and peaceful and away from the touristy downtown area. Bed was comfy and kitchen had everything we needed to make ourselves dinner, and snacks and drinks already waiting for us when we arrived.
There were also beach towels, chairs, umbrella and snorkel gear to borrow. Hosts were very friendly, stopped by to see if we needed anything (we didn't). Apartment had it's own AC but we didn't need it. Would definitely stay here again visiting Kona.
Air Conditioned. Barbeque Grill. Full Kitchen. Yard and Lanai. Washer and dryer available on site. Free use of snorkling gear, boogie boards, beach chairs, beach umbrellas and beach towels. Portable stove and grill available, upon request, for beach/picnic outings.
