Welcome to the Loggerhead, a fantastic 4 BR, ocean front cottage on a quiet, secluded part of Topsail Island. No public access. Our private access to the beach is for folks staying at the cottage.
We purchased this cottage in 1988 and each year we make improvements and updates. It is named in honor of the sea turtle who laid her eggs in front of the cottage on the day of purchase. You can enjoy walking the beach searching for turtle tracks, visit a sea turtle rehabilitation center, participate in the wait for a turtle nest to hatch. And hunt for fossilized shark teeth millions of years old. Watch beautiful dolphins in the surf and pelicans and other birds.
Early risers can watch the sun rise over the ocean from their personal deck while enjoying your morning coffee without changing out of your pjs. Moon risings are also a treat. A sundeck and furnished covered porch works for the sun worshipers as well as those who prefer a retreat from the afternoon sun. For the beach, sand chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, sand toys are provided. You’ll have plenty of space to spread out and make the best sand sculpture ever.
Inside, the colorful, beachy décor has many turtle touches. Three flat screen TVs with DVD and VCR access , internet, and WIFI and variety of games, books, videos, and puzzles provide inside entertainment. Four bedrooms sleep eight. Two queen rooms have private access to ocean front porch. Two other bedrooms have twin beds. Two full baths are upstairs and another full enclosed private bath is outside downstairs can be a convenient place to use the toilet when sandy. Full size washer/dryer.
The interior of the Loggerhead is 1200 square feet. You'll find everything you need--completely stocked kitchen with new appliances, washer and dryer in laundry area, a charcoal grill, three cable TVs- including a 40 inch in the living room, WIFI and phone. Four bedrooms sleep eight. The two ocean front bedrooms each have a queen size bed, and the two street side bedrooms have very sturdy twin and XL twin beds. We have 2 full bathrooms as well as a completely enclosed outside hot and cold shower and toilet which is perfect for showering after a sandy day. Our sons spent much time here as they were growing up and now our grandchildren visit. That is a good reason for the outdoor bathroom We also have a portacrib, highchair, lots of games, and children's videos with VCR and DVD players for a rainy day or extra hot afternoon. Of course, you will find boogie boards, sand toys, beach chairs.
The kitchen is extremely well stocked as we have spent winters living here. You’ll even find an array of seasonings for your culinary enjoyment. Maybe you’ll catch a fish or two but, just in case, there are seafood markets that provide a variety of fresh seafood that you can cook on the grill. There is also a variety of privately owned restaurants .
The owner and manager of the Loggerhead live right in town and will be available for any help you may need. No need to worry about repairs, etc. as we keep this cottage top notch! We personally inspect it after each guest leaves.
Topsail Beach is the southern end of Topsail Island, a 26 mile barrier island off the southern coast of North Carolina. The island provides family style beach environment with private beach homes and private businesses. You will find bike paths the length of the island, fishing piers, variety of restaurants, gift shops, tennis courts, and golf courses in the area. When you discover the town of Topsail Beach (a one mile pleasant walk on the beach), you will think that you have time-traveled to the 1950s with a putt-putt from that era and roller skating to 45s spun on a record player. The Missiles and More Museum has displays from the early history of the space age which began with the testing of the ram jet engines on Topsail Island. And Black Beard supposedly buried his treasures here. We’ll provide the shovel if you want to look. Kayaks and bicycles are available locally for rent for more exploration. Fishing trips and boat rides on the Intracoastal are ready for you. Take a pirate cruise.
