Why John and Regina chose Hudson Valley

We love the lake the mountains and the outdoors...I have rebuilt this house to recreate that old camp feel. one tv no cable. only movies for you and the kids.. no dishwasher old school everyone chips in. The main area is set up with a great open feel, so everyone can be together.

What makes this house unique

Usually there is no one on the lake during the week even in the summer, very quiet.... winters are outstanding.. skiing /snowboarding close enough to totally enjoy. sled down the side yard at night.

Gorgeous cottage on the lake

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I, along with our two tween sons, rented the cottage for a few days in July. We were en route from Canada to NYC and it seemed like the perfect pit stop, especially given that 3 of us are hardcore baseball fans, and Cooperstown is relatively close by.

We had a bit of trouble contacting the owners prior to our arrival as they were out of town (multiple attempts to get confirmation of the reservation and had to hunt them down to find out how to access the property). Once we did make contact, John was very friendly and everything went smoothly. This doesn't sound like the norm for them based on our experience and we don't think that this is a show stopper.

When we arrived, it was evident that Regina is an interior decorator and John is very handy. The cottage was immaculate and the attention to small details, the antiques that seemed to be specially chosen for certain rooms, the small touches all made for a very pleasurable stay, especially for Mama since I am a photographer and very much appreciate aesthetics.

The cottage was huge, with two decks looking over the lake. The boys loved trying the SUPs and kayaks. It was very well appointed and we lacked for nothing. The lower level had a bit of a musty smell, especially in the bunk bed room, but seemed to be better once we aired things out.

We had a great stay overall!

We really enjoyed ourselves

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect property for our party of 9. Everyone commented all weekend how much they loved the house and the lake. The kitchen was well appointed, there was a good selection of movies for the rainy day, and everyone enjoyed their space. It wasn't warm enough for swimming on our weekend, and I'm not sure the little arm of the lake the house is on is deep enough for good swimming, but it was perfect for the kids to have a bit of autonomy and go kayaking by themselves while we adults watched nearby. We were definitely sad to leave behind the property and head back to our tiny apartment in the concrete jungle. Buy water for drinking, and your own pillows if you like fluffy ones. I wish this was my house!

Great house with loads of character

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here in the winter (8 adults and a 21 month old). The place was super easy to find and was right by the lake. It had lots of charm and character and everything was super clean. John was very responsive, even at night. It is only a 30 minute drive to skiing, and we had loads of fun! It was a perfect distance for us, from both Boston and New York, and I am sure it is going to be lovely in summer, with the lake so near by. If you are staying with kids, they may need to be supervised.
