Great Stay, Great Hosts
We enjoyed our stay at Suite on the Beach. It's all about location - an amazing view; walk to a quality, essentially private beach; minutes to all the amazing north shore beaches; and just a short drive to Cruz Bay for restaurants, or towards Coral Bay for smoothies. Hosts were great, very responsive when needed, but the unit is very private. Pictures are accurate. Inside of unit is comfortable and adequate - not fancy or opulent, but adequate. I think you need a car.
We loved our stay at "Suite on the Beach"!
The location on Peter Bay was perfect. Just a short walk down from the suite to a wonderful private beach, with great snorkeling. The view from our porch was mesmerizing! The unit was very clean and cozy. The bed was extremely comfortable. We rarely used the AC in the bedroom, preferring to hear the ocean, and feeling the heavenly breezes. Denise & David were fantastic hosts. We can't wait to return!
Amazing honeymoon experience!! Island is back and thriving!
We stayed here for our honeymoon (May 20-May 27, 2018), and it was picture perfect! For those wondering if the island has recovered, IT HAS! The water and beaches are the most beautiful I have ever seen in my life (and I grew up near the Gulf Coast where we have white sandy beaches and beautiful emerald water). This house is nestled in the quiet area of the Peter Bay is very private.
The house is perfectly located! Trunk Bay is a short 2-3 min drive as is Cinnamon Bay. And Maho Bay (where the sea turtles are!!) is about a 5-6 min drive. Cruz Bay, the central hub of the island where all of the restaurants and shops are, is about a 12-15 min drive. The Cruz Bay side of the island has seemingly no residual hurricane issues (Coral Bay is still getting cleaned up as of May 2018). I would recommend renting a car to get around though. It made everything much easier, and we could explore all over the island. We used Conrad Sutton, and it was great.
THE VIEW!!! It's breathtaking! We spent the majority of our time that we were at the house sitting on the porch taking in the view. The house itself is on a steep, awkward driveway that takes some finagling to get in and out of. Denise and David live upstairs but stay entirely to themselves unless you need something. There isn't a ton of space on the bottom floor of the house, so I wouldn't recommend this for a family. But it worked for the two of us perfectly! The kitchen is also pretty small, but it worked fine for our needs - sandwiches and breakfast. The queen bed was slightly softer than we are used to and woke up with a little back pain. The AC is only available in the bedroom, but the islands weather is so nice, it wasn't bad without it in the kitchen. There is a gas grill and snorkel gear at the house that we used at every beach. The bathroom was spacious and really nice and stocked with plenty of towels! And again, the views absolutely CANNOT BE BEAT!
THE PRIVATE BEACH:
The walkway down to the private beach was too steep for us. We tried it twice, and by the end of the second time, we were done! But it was also a beautiful beach and very very private. We never saw anyone else down there our entire stay. And there is amazing snorkeling just off the beach as well.
We would absolutely stay here again! Trip of a lifetime for us! Thank you!!!
fabulous view and lovely sea breezes in a spacious, equipped one bedroom apartment
I was hesitant at first to go back to St. John as our favorite eco-resort was demolished after Irma, as were the camping facilities at Cinnamon Bay. But how fortunate we were to find this rental property. The owners were fabulous and their rental apartment looks out on a spacious porch right into Peter Bay. My favorite spot on that porch was the rope swing. There were three of us, so the third used the futon bed in the main area, while we had a separate bedroom. LARGE bedroom. One bathroom, but that was no problem. We were well equpped with a closet full of clean, fresh towels and beach towels for use. Plus sunscreens and regular toiletries. There was also a variety of snorkel gear to use (I borrowed fins only as I have a prescription mask and others had brought their own gear. ) But it would be great to travel without all that stuff in the future. Also available for use is a SUP but I never got to use it as the water was too choppy. There is a concrete driveway path that leads directly to a private beach at Peter Bay. Steepish but totally manageable. We visited all our favorite places on St. John and were encouraged that all the beaches were cleaned and open and even the snorkel equipment/beach chair rental concession was open at Trunk Bay. The toilets at the Park's beaches are open as well, so you can have a beautiful, quiet beach vacation and be grateful for the recovery work that is still ongoing. Because while the beaches and clean and the water is blue, the vegetation and structures within the park will be a while in the rebuilding. Work crews are still there. Except for one or two that didn't make it, the restaurants we enjoyed were open for business and we had a lovely time. Grocery stores, gas station open. For those who aren't good drivers on St. John the one thing I would check with the owners about is the parking space/driveway. It is steep. We did it with a small car, but a jeep is probably preferable.
The pictures don't lie!
If you are looking for a relaxing, picture perfect getaway, this is it. This was our first trip to St. John and we checked out pretty much every inch of the island by land and by boat, and could not find another spot that we would have preferred. The view is amazing and when we were at the house, spent most of our time on the comfy couch on the deck taking it in. The house is well stocked with everything you need, including a great gas grill, making it easy to have a private dinner with one of the best views on the island. We definitely took advantage of the snorkel gear for use at our basically private beach, as well as some of the other great beaches on the island. No TV, but the WIFI was very reliable for streaming movies in the evening.
The location is great…quiet and away from it all, but only about 15 minutes from Cruz Bay, and close to several beaches. Ideal. We took the Owner’s advice on renting from Conrad Sutton Car Rental, which was a life saver as we could park there when in town. They also gave us spot on recommendations for hikes and dinners out.
Based on the above, this place is totally 5 stars and a great value. The house itself has more of a cottage feel than 5 star luxury, but it is clean, comfortable, well stocked and had everything we needed for a great stay!
Perfection in every way
This is an absolute gem. My husband & I had a perfect week (despite slightly imperfect weather to start with) relaxing, swimming, snorkeling & generally exploring the beautiful beaches & coves right on our doorstep. David & Denise were excellent hosts - accommodating, responsive & helpful. The apartment was clean, comfortable & well-equipped with just about everything you could think of. The location is phenomenal, in a totally dreamy neighbourhood (but still very secluded) with views & easy access to idyllic beaches. We managed perfectly well without a car for a week; if we had another week there & wanted to do more island exploring we might have rented a car, but it certainly isn't a necessity. We would recommend enjoying the fabulous seclusion of Peter Bay, swimming over to Little Cinnamon & exploring the small submerged plane wreck, snorkeling at Maho Bay & swimming with sea turtles. We will definitely be back!
One of the most idyllic locations on all of St. John, the gated community of Lower Peter Bay is St. John’s most prestigious neighborhood, boasting numerous multi-million dollar world class luxury homes and vacation rentals. The property is located right on Peter Bay Beach, and in between two of the world’s most beautiful beaches, Trunk and Cinnamon, both of which are just a 1 minute drive or 5 minute downhill walk away. The restaurants, shopping and nightlife of Cruz Bay are all within 15 minutes drive away.
