About Linda McDonough
Our family went on houseboat vacations cruising the Mississippi river and skiing at Chestnut Mountain Resort when we were growing up. We loved the area so much my parents looked at property to buy in the Galena area. The first piece of property they purchased was in 1966. The cabin was eventually built in 1983.
Linda McDonough purchased this Cabin in 1983
Why Linda McDonough chose Hanover
Our parents built a cabin for guests and family to stay in when they visited. After they passed away, we decided to rent the cabin out 5 months out of the year. We haven enjoyed vacationing there for many years and would like to share it with others.

Great Relaxing Getaway...
Ron and I had a wonderful relaxing time. We had great weather and perfect water temperature. I was in the water most of the time swimming or using ball for core strengthening. The water was very clear. With all the fish jumping, we couldn't resist throwing a line in. Ron caught several bass and blue gill. We took the paddle boat for a spin. I think it would be a perfect place to use a paddle board.
Found out that we stink at building campfires without starter fluid. lol.. but we eventually got it. We sat around the fire at night roasting hot dogs and marshmallows, listening to the night sounds.
This place was everything we were looking for to relax and enjoy nature.
I highly recommend seeing it for yourself.
Simple cabin, a little paradise. Can not wait to go back again!
Thank you for providing a review for the Cabin. We are happy you enjoyed your stay there.
We came across this rental as we were looking for a good central location for our long distance friends to meet at for summer vacation. We were so impressed by the cabin and lake! The cabin was well appointed, and the views from the deck and property in general is stunning! We had the most fun swimming in the private lake, and having such a wonderful backdrop to spend quality time with each other made this trip and location our favorite so far!
Thank you very much for providing such a wonderful review. We are very happy you enjoyed yourselves there. It's kind of a magical place.
Great place for the kids! Enjoyed the fishing and the fire by the water!
Other then the algae in the lake being a tad heavy and the queen bed a bit rough the place was awesome! We did leave a day early as the air conditioning couldn't keep up and the temp inside was 83 degrees. We didn't complain so not owners fault. We did notify when we left.
Thank you for your review. Also, thank you for calling and letting us know about the air conditioner. After hearing from Justin, I contacted the local Heating and Air Conditioning vendor and they were out in 2 hours to fix it.
As for the algae, it had just been treated , but with the hot, damp weather, it is tough to keep a lake algae free.
Thanks again for your visit to the cabin.
