Overview

About the property

Please read full description as it should answer most of your questions. Calendars are automatically updated so should reflect current availability at any time.

Located in Pickerel, WI, this recently remodeled cottage sits 25 feet from the water's edge. The property has some of the best swimming frontage on the lake. This 1300 acre recreational lake is also great for boating, skiing, fishing, kayaking, and canoeing. Pier, paddle boat, 2 kayaks and 2 stand up paddle boards are available for use; some flotation devices available. Both a gas and charcoal grill are available for use.

The bedroom has a queen size bed with window seat for storage during your stay. Living area has a queen size fold out couch. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you should need during your stay, including a coffee maker, electric griddle, toaster, hand mixer and toaster oven as well as a few basic spices.

The cottage has a large 14 x 16 ft deck with a glider and ample seating perfect for viewing all lake activities including both sunrises and sunsets. Sit back and listen to the loons and watch the eagles soar overhead. A large fire pit for roasting marshmallows and telling ghost stories sits a couple steps from the cottage. No need to bring extra lawn chairs as there are plenty available.

Don't feel like cooking? Take a short walk down the road to the Final Lap where you can get a cold drink, great pizza, chicken wings, burgers, etc. They also offer movie rentals and a place to play a couple games of pool or darts or participate in karaoke every other Saturday evening.

Guests will need to bring their own bed sheets, and bath and kitchen towels. Some blankets and pillows are available. A pack-and-play is available upon request (once less thing to pack). Guests will want to bring groceries with them as the closest full size grocery store is a 30 minute drive. A well stocked convenience store for last minute items is 5 miles away.

We want every guest to arrive to a clean and welcoming cottage. Guests are asked to clean and put away all dishes and take leftovers home. The owners don't live on site so guests are asked to take their trash to the local recycling center on the way out of town.

Guests are charged a refundable damage deposit to cover incidental damage and lost items (ex. kayak paddles). The deposit is refunded after cleaning and inspection is completed. Guests can generally expect the refund to be issued within 2-3 days of completing their stay.

Guests with pets should consider the following house rules: 1) pets are not allowed on any furniture; 2) pets should not be left unattended in the cottage to reduce risk of damage; and 3) pet waste should be cleaned up and disposed of promptly. We have a large enough yard for dogs to play in. PLEASE be a good neighbor and ensure pets stay in our yard and off of the neighboring properties.

Need more room? Additional sleeping space available in 30 ft camper on premises. A separate couch and kitchen seating area convert to sleeping space. There are no working restroom facilities in the camper. Additional rental costs apply. Please call 608-516-0489 for more information.

About Bob & Kerry Hanko

We bought this property because for more than 30 years we have enjoyed time with our children and extended family in the area. This property allows us to continue the tradition as our family grows and we can watch our grandchildren enjoy the same experiences with cousins as our children did with theirs while growing up. We have several family and extended family members that also own cottages on the lake so the area provides a place for us to get together throughout the year.

Bob & Kerry Hanko purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Bob & Kerry Hanko chose Pickerel

We selected this property because it is closer to the water than almost any other property on the lake. The property was the original resort on the lake in the early 1900s. The property has both the original office/lodge (aka Dragonfly Lodge) and one of the seasonal cottages (Summer Cottage) on the premises. Both buildings needed some updates and TLC - two challenges we were willing to face. We are still working on the Dragonfly Lodge, but the Summer Cottage is ready to share with others. I love this little cottage and could spend my entire summer sitting on the deck watching the boats, ducks and eagles going by and listening to the loons every evening.

Lovely. Well taken care of, beautiful view.

Lovely. Well taken care of, beautiful view. The pull out bed could use better support, but the bed in bedroom is very comfortable. Owners are very receptive and helpful. :)

Perfect weekend getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic weekend away! Cottage was just steps from the lake. We saw a bald eagle hunt and grab prey! Also tons of coots, grebes, and ducks. Easy access for our kayaks. Kitchen was well-stocked with supplies for cooking. Wish we could have stayed longer. Highly recommended!

Cozy Cottage - Off season - Very Quiet - Excellent

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is on the Lake front with a beautiful View. Although other cottages were close to us it was off season and very quiet. We Relaxed and found Distractions in the Casino's, Second hand store and Specialty shops with in driving distance. We Came up to Catch Cranberry Fest and Sample Wine at the local Winery's. Sat on the Deck and watched the Ducks, Geese and the loon's. Not to mention a Bald eagle with a Taste for Mud Hens [coot's]. I Recommend this Cottage - Very up to date. Thanks

We really enjoyed our stay. The cottage had everything and more of what we needed for our stay. The lake was beautiful and the whole family had fun using the paddle boards, kayaks and the piers for fishing and swimming! We will cherish the memories!

Most visitors to the area come to enjoy time with family and friends. The lake offers many opportunities for activities like boating, swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing, etc.

The only nearby activity is golf and the occasional garage sale. Groceries are limited to what can be purchased at the local convenience stores. You can find most staples at the convenience store including all the makings for s'mores.
