About the property

House, 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths (Sleeps 6 - 7) Lovely courtyard

This Garden District location -- upper unit-- features a newly furnished large unit in a home off St. Charles Ave. (lake side) and street car line. Truly, this home is located in one of New Orleans most desired neighborhoods. Restaurants, coffee shops, streetcar stop, Mardi Gras parades, towering live oaks and much more New Orleans offers is right outside your door. The Elms Mansion, an event venue, is only two blocks away. The home is remodeled with an open floor plan. A large dining table can seat up to 10 people. Additional dining space is outdoors. The lush courtyard offers a restful space to sit and relax after busy days touring or attending festivals. Families are especially welcome. The unit is approximately 2200 square feet. We also rent our lower unit (388020) as a VRBO which families or friends may be able to rent at the same time.

Sleeping accommodations present several options. The master suite includes a queen size bed with a connected shared bath with bedroom 2. Bedroom 2 also includes a queen size bed and access to the bathroom. Bedroom 3 features two twin beds in a spacious bedroom. (A small room adjacent to this bedroom has a twin bed for a seventh person.) This bedroom includes an en suite full bath. A half bath is located in the hallway. A family would have much space to accommodate children.

Central air conditioning and shaded street and yard provide for cool and comfortable relaxation from summer heat. See "Amenities" for additional information.

About Karen Bertel

My name is Karen, and Mike, my son, owns this charming apartment in the Garden District. When Mike was five, we moved from New Orleans and lived in Black Forest, Colorado, for almost 22 years. As a youngster, Mike developed a passion for ice hockey. Even without ice rinks in the city, Mike returned to New Orleans to finish college the summer before Katrina. After that event, Mike worked at recovery for area properties and eventually entered the business of restoring old New Orleans homes. In 2008, my husband and I moved back to the city where I continued a career in education. Now that I am retired as an English teacher, I help Mike manage the rental of his apartment and assure that guests have an enjoyable VRBO stay in New Orleans.

Yours,

Karen

Why Karen Bertel chose Garden District

Our home is located just off the intersection of beautiful St. Charles Avenue. Restaurants and shops are within walking distance. At Mardi Gras time, parades pass only 100 feet from our gated entrance. Throughout the year, visitors can walk out to the streetcar stop which will take visitors to downtown New Orleans--Canal St. and Bourbon St., the Warehouse District, and Audubon Zoo and the university area.

I think what you will appreciate most is the hospitality we offer in doing whatever we can to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.

What makes this apartment unique

Our open floor plan and lush courtyard offer a perfect setting for friends and family to gather.

Great Stay! Great Location! Great Experience!

  • 5 of 5

Took my wife to Essence Fest 2016 and our first time to New Orleans for her birthday! This unit was spacious and the owner was very accommodating. Any questions we had prior or during the stay she was sure to answer promptly. We were pleased with the location and the trolley is steps away from the unit and will take you anywhere you need to go! Great place to stay, very quiet and convenient! Will would definitely recommend this to anyone and plan to return for 2017 as well! Thanks Karen!

Great Location

  • 5 of 5

The location is excellent - the Charles Ave streetcar is 1/2 block away, a good supermarket is an easy walk, and Magazine St is a slightly longer walk. The apartment is well furnished and comes with lots of amenities, like soap for the clothes washer, lint brushes, and kitchen basics like sugar for coffee. The owner / manager checked in a couple of times during a two week stay to see if everything met ours needs. A very nice home base while visiting New Orleans.

Beautiful, perfect stay for our wedding!

  • 5 of 5

Everything about the home was absolutely perfect. Not only was it even more gorgeous in person, everything Karen describes layout, amenities, cleanliness was perfection! The necessities like towels, kitchen items, sheets, etc were in abundance but even better was all the extras. The outdoor courtyard is wonderful to lounge around and have a BBQ - we enjoyed having our morning coffee outside.

We had both the upstairs and downstairs duplex which allowed me and my partner to get ready on the day of our wedding and be close enough for all of our family and friends to stop by, but also allowed us to not see each other the day of. We used the awesome surround sound system to play some music and get excited for our big day.

I'm still in shock by just how perfect this house was and how great Karen was as a host. I would highly recommend to anyone who is looking to stay in the lovely garden district. Not only does the house have everything, but you're walking distance from magazine street with great shops and restaurants and right across the street you have an amazing sandwich shop - The Grocery. I can go on forever about how much I loved staying here! Thank you so much Karen for your hospitality!

Fantastic Location in the beautiful Garden District

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I just spent a week in New Orleans and could not have asked for a better place to base our daily activities. This home is spacious, clean, updated, and located in the beautiful Garden District. One of the best features is it's location just a block from the St. Charles cable car line. It was so easy and inexpensive to jump on the car and get pretty much anywhere in the city! We would NOT hesitate to stay here again and Karen was so helpful and responsive to all questions and needs!

The house is exactly as it was described. 3 bedrooms 3 bathrooms plenty of room for everybody in our party. Very clean, comfortable & convenient , with the trolley just one block from the St Charles stop. We found an amazing breakfast restaurant, about 6 blocks away, by the hospital, called Coulies, which a definite must! I just wish I had more time to enjoy the outdoor Courtyard and the amazing weather we had. I'll definitely stay here next time my travel plans include New Orleans
