About Mary Knopfle

LeRoy was born and raised in Colorado and Mary moved to Denver from Indiana after graduating from college. Both LOVED Colorado….LeRoy was a cowboy/bullrider and Mary was an avid skier.

A business opportunity of a lifetime took us to Florida in 1981 but our dream was always to return to the southwestern part of Colorado when we retired. We are living out that dream now by spending as much time as we can at Hummingbird Haven and making many wonderful memories with our grandchildren, family and friends.. When we are not at our beautiful log cabin, we love sharing it with others.

Mary Knopfle purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Mary Knopfle chose San Juan River Village

The Pagosa Springs area offers many adventure opportunities, all of which our entire family enjoys: mountain biking, skiing, horseback riding, camping, hiking, rafting, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, golfing and fishing. And, if we don’t feel like exercising, we can sit back, relax, and enjoy the surroundings. This area has some of the most beautiful scenery found anywhere in the world.

What makes this cabin unique

Hummingbird Haven is away from all the hustle and bustle and yet only 17 miles from Wolf Creek Ski area and 5 miles from downtown Pagosa Springs where there are many restaurants and of course the healing waters of the Hot Springs. The San Juan River and San Juan mountains are right out the back door to enjoy and so are the many hummingbirds in the summertime.

Guestbook comments from the owner

As we leave on Sunday morning, I am reminded of a phrase that seems appropriate for your cabin! "To pay homage to beauty is to admire nature; to admire nature is it worship God." Lovely cabin in a unique, beautiful setting.

Thank you for sharing.

Was an excellent cabin at a fantastic price. Was extremely cozy and plenty of room. We made all of our meals here also, the kitchen was well stocked. Would definitely stay here again.

Perfect cabin, perfect place

  • 5 of 5

Great cabin with plenty of room and comfort. Deer seen every morning or evening in the yard and birds were beautiful. Minutes from all the action whether it's hiking, fishing, shopping, soaking or skiing, it's all here. Great back porch with awesome view.

Classic Cabin in the San Juan Mountains

  • 4 of 5

This cabin at San Juan River Ranch is a classic, full log style cabin with a number of antiques to reinforce the atmosphere. It is six miles north of Pagosa Springs making a trip to town very easy. While the house sits in a subdivision and in a section of the subdivision with long, narrow lots and therefore with neighbors close by on each side, the back deck faces east with a wonderful view of the mountains. You can hear the San Juan River at the bottom of the hill. The cabin has a nice kitchen, living area, bedrooms up and down. We expected to find all the necessary supplies in the house but there was only a partial roll of paper towels, one roll of toilet paper, very limited, old spices, and salt & pepper. We needed to go to town and buy the stuff we needed. Other than that issue, we had a great stay.

Cutest, coziest stay and way under advertised

  • 5 of 5

A few of us stayed at Hummingbird Haven this fall and were pleasantly surprised at how cute, accommodating, and peaceful it was! Its very close to town, nestled in the center of the valley after wolf creek pass, backs up right to the river, is surrounded by bright yellow trees in the fall, has very great views, is in a quiet neighborhood. Will definitely be back again!
