About Jim Saunders

Owners are life-long natives to Paso Robles. Have lived across the street from this home for many years. They are the owners of HEARST RANCH Winery with their vineyards directly across the street from this home.

One of the few native Vintners born in Paso Robles.

Two sons. Both work in either the family construction business or at winery. They have a passion for making fine wines and being able to live in this wonderful area. Tasting rooms are located in San Simeon as well as Cholame, but all production is done right across the street from this unique home.

Jim Saunders purchased this villa in 2014

Why Jim Saunders chose Paso Robles

This property became available in early 2014. When we realized it was an original adobe, built not long after the San Miguel Mission, we knew we had something special. The original home was built from adobe blocks that were handmade from soil in the area by the mission, by local artisans. We have kept two small areas of the walls exposed so you can see the beauty in the blocks that were handmade.

What makes this villa unique

The exterior walls in the original home are approximately two feet thick.

This keeps the home at a very even temperature in Summer and Winter.

It is conveniently located on River Road about 4 1/2 miles North of Paso Robles. This makes it very private, yet easy to get to and from shopping and local restaurants.

The home is also very close (about 4 1/2 miles) to the historic San Miguel Mission, one of the original 27 Historic Missions in California, which was recently, beautifully rebuilt after the devastating 2003 Earthquake.

We are located very close to many wineries such as:

JLohr (two miles)

Villa San Juliette (five miles)

Locatelli Vineyards

Riverstar Vineyards

Tackett Family Vineyards

Graveyard Vineyards

Eberle

Robert Hall

Vina Robles

And MANY more

A getaway gem

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the house and highly recommend it for anyone looking to getaway to Paso Robles. The house is in beautiful condition and clean and has all the amenities you could want. The bathrooms and kitchen are all updated and feel modern while still being charming and fitting in with the theme of the house. The beds were very comfortable. The remote controlled fireplaces were awesome. We'd come back!

Outstanding Paso Robles Home Base

  • 5 of 5

My family and I spent three days touring the Paso Robles area, somewhat unexpectedly due to some last minute trip changes. Luckily, I stumbled into the "Adobe," which is the guest house at Hearst Ranch Winery. Never mind the fact that Hearst has some outstanding wines and you are staying right by the vines...the house itself and the hospitality of Jim (the owner) made this a perfect stay.

The house itself is great - a really old house perfectly updated. Four spacious bedrooms, all the dishes and appliances you need to cook a simple or gourmet meal, and quality decorations and furnishings. It's about a 10 minute drive to the main part of Paso Robles, and a 25 minute drive from here to where most of the wineries are located. We really enjoyed sitting out on the back porch each night and having that last glass of wine and reliving the day.

Jim was a perfect host - he arranged for some of us to participate in the grape crush, gave us a personal wine tasting and he even gave us a ride into town for dinner one night.

A few tidbits that I always wonder about when renting a VRBO house:

- Wi-Fi was good

- Cell service was good

- The kitchen was fully stocked - coffee pot, toaster, spices, etc. We did add some olive oil to the inventory at the house!

- The closest main grocery store is about a 15 minute drive

- We were able to get Uber/Lyft to pick us up at the house. It's about a $30 ride for an Uber XL from the house to where most of the restaurants in Paso are located

We will certainly stay at the Adobe next time we are in Paso!

Top notch vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I stayed here for our wine tasting trip. I have stayed here once before and I wanted to share this home with my friends and they absolutely loved it. Beds are comfortable, bath towels are nice, and plenty of room for 6 of us. We cooked here for breakfast and dinner after wine tasting all day. This is the perfect place to come after being out all day to watch the sunset in the back while BBQing. Mr. Saunders is a down-to-Earth friendly host. I plan on staying here again as my friends would love to come back too. They were impressed! Thank you Mr. & Mrs. Saunders!

WONDERFUL HOME

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful home! Even better than we anticipated. We had four couples in our group and the home was very accommodating. Very much enjoyed meeting the owner (Jim) and hearing the history of the home. We will definitely be back. The couples have actually suggested we make this our annual get-a-away location. Thanks again, Jim, for your hospitality and sharing your home with us.

Absolutely PERFECT!

  • 5 of 5

This home is amazing. It's a blast from the 'long ago' past (as in 1850) and there are small sections of glassed-in walls displaying the original adobe materials that went into making this house. But that's where the 'old' ends -- the house is beautifully appointed inside with antiques scattered throughout the rooms, cowboy memorabilia displayed, lovely Mexican tiles decorating the walls and floors, and views of vineyards surrounding the home. The accommodations were as luxurious as a 5-star hotel. My four children and families (including one one-year-old) descended on this house for a Cal Poly graduation. The house offered us the opportunity to be under one roof, cook inside (beautifully appointed kitchen) and outside (gas grill), play backyard games and then sit around one large table that accommodated us all. Jim S. and Margo B. responded quickly to all questions leading up to our visit and the house was ready for us -- including complimentary wines from the Hearst Ranch Winery. Grocery stores are about a 10 minute drive and lots to do in the area for all ages and all interests. My only regret was that, due to time constraints, we were not able to take advantage of the 'private winery tour' that Jim offers to house visitors. Next time for sure!

The place was fantastic !

  • 5 of 5

We (4 couples) stayed there for five nights and it met our every need. We also did the wine tasting across the road with Jim (the owner) and Kathleen, the wine presenter. We loved the wine. The presentation was really laid back and enjoyable. Jim came by one evening in his golf cart which held all of us and took us for a tour of the Winery and to see the sun set from the highest part of the Winery. What a wonderful experience!!! Great place, great wine and great people !!!
