About The Eagles Nest at Yellowstone
Yellowstone National Park has always held a special place in my heart. I've been visiting the park on an annual basis since 1999 (sometimes several times a year) and each trip is unique and special in its own right. In 2008, I brought my Dad to Yellowstone over the Thanksgiving holiday and the weather was amazing...cool & crisp but not cold and unbearable. We hiked for several hours every day and had the time of our lives. One morning we set out on an 8-mile hike. It had snowed a couple of inches the previous night and 1/2 mile into the hike we discovered we were following the tracks of a large grizzly bear. For the next 3 miles we walked in the footprints left by the great bear, armed only with bear spray, but never did see the bruin. Seeing my Dad's face light up when he realized the tracks were not very old and that we were not 'alone in the wilderness' was priceless. Because of that trip, I realized I wanted to spend as much time as possible with my Dad, enjoying moments like those while we still had the opportunity. Life is so short-make the most of it!! Then in 2012, my entire family was able to join me in Yellowstone to celebrate my birthday. It was in that moment I decided this is where my heart is and in order to experience more lasting memories with my entire family I needed to have a place for them to call their 'home-away-from-home'. Together, my Dad & I purchased this cabin as place to relax, watch the wildlife, fish the Yellowstone River and most importantly build more lasting memories. Being able to give my Dad the gift of owning a cabin means so much to me. As a Vietnam Vet and someone who grew up without modern conveniences (ie: running water & indoor plumbing), owning a cabin was never on his radar. My Dad is the most kind-hearted, caring person I know and he would go the extra mile for those he cares about. Being able to give back to him was a dream come true and helping to make his dreams come true is what life is all about.
The Eagles Nest at Yellowstone purchased this Cabin in 2013
Why The Eagles Nest at Yellowstone chose Gardiner
We chose this cabin because of the proximity to Yellowstone National Park and the fact that it is located beneath Electric Peak with amazing views of the Yellowstone River. We can literally fish right from the banks of the river on the property and grill the fish minutes later while enjoying the evening from the patio...all without leaving the cabin. We named the cabin, 'The Eagles Nest at Yellowstone' for several reasons: During our first trip to Yellowstone we saw two immature bald eagles and enjoyed watching them for quite some time. You will frequently see eagles soaring up/down the river throughout the year. Every time I see an eagle soaring I say out loud 'It's going to be a great day' and it is!! Most importantly, my Dad is a Vietnam Vet and every time I see an eagle I'm reminded of the sacrifices he and so many other military families make to protect and preserve our freedom. The eagle is the epitome and national symbol of that freedom. Watching an eagle soar on the wind of the Yellowstone ecosystem is a magical experience. Also, the Park boundary is less than 1500 feet from the driveway and the North Entrance to Yellowstone is only 4-miles away. We wanted something close to the park but not overly commercialized or populated. This cabin was close, convenient and had the space we needed. With 2 bedrooms (4 Queene beds) and 2 full bathrooms, a full kitchen, dining area, living room and covered patio, we knew our needs were covered. Being able to share this property with others is exciting. Each trip to Yellowstone is different and offers a whole new experience. Whether you are coming for adventure, hiking, sight-seeing, fishing, wildlife viewing or photography this is the place to be!! It was also important to me that we had a cabin where wildlife were welcome. Occasionally we will have bison, deer or elk in the yard and rarely a grizzly bear. Always be aware of your surroundings when in/near Yellowstone. This is their home too.
What makes this Cabin unique
The unique benefits of The Eagles Nest at Yellowstone include the amazing views of Electric Peak, Sepulcher Mountain and the Devils Slide. Located right just off the Yellowstone Riverfront our guests are able to fish directly from the banks of the river on the property. For those that enjoy walking, the Park boundary is just 1500 from the driveway and only 4 miles from the North Entrance to YNP at Gardiner. The Eagles Nest is open and available to reserve year-round and we encourage our guests to visit the Yellowstone National Park during different times of the year as each experience offers something new and different. Winter is especially wonderful and offers a whole new experience if you have never been. You will love staying at this Yellowstone cabin known as The Eagles Nest at Yellowstone!

Spring in Yellowstone
We booked this stay very last minute because of crazy schedules and it worked out perfectly. Our cabin was just minutes outside of Gardiner, MT and very easy access into Yellowstone. Because it was March not much of the Park was open...but also because it was March there were NONE of the typical Yellowstone crowds or traffic jams (other than the Bison variety). The cabin would sleep 8 comfortably with 2 queen beds in each room but we only had 5 of us so there was plenty of room. Everything was very nicely decorated and clean, really nothing to complain about. My only pause, and this is very minor, is the kitchen knives are very dull and make food prep a little challenging. But again I thought this was minor.
I think there were some comments about the dirt road to the property, we loved all the wildlife that we saw coming and going along the road so I think it really depends on the person's perspective. We took the dirt road into Gardiner and too many elk, bison and antelope to count! When not in the park our family played along the river or took a drive north up the canyon to swim at Chico Hot Springs.
Overall it was a great quick family trip! We would definitely recommend this place to friends and family.
I'm so happy you and your family enjoyed your impromptu vacation at our cabin and the Yellowstone area. I'm hoping you were able to see the bison in front of the cabin windows while you were there. The neighbors sent me some images and I'm happy to email them to you. They were literally right outside your living room windows...maybe while you were away from the cabin. Those knives...I know. We sharpen them as frequently as possible and they are a bugger to keep super sharp. despite the plastic cutting boards. We'd love to have you and your family back again in the future!!
Perfect little home away from home!
This was the best "home" base to take in the sights of Yellowstone! Return from a day at the park and grill out or cook in! Very homey and beautiful professional photos from a local photographer decorate the cabin! Loved the elk visiting in the front yard! I would stay here again! So close to the North entrance to Yellowstone!
Really nice cabin, well appointed and comfortable. Enjoyed watching the elk out back!
We had a great stay in the Eagle's nest. We were able to stock up on food in Gardiner and had relaxing evenings looking at the stars and moon. The views are amazing and we had everything we needed to make dinner after a day at Yellowstone and had plenty of room for the 6 of us.
Happy to hear you enjoyed your time at the cabin and were able to experience the view of the stars. It is amazing!!
What we expected AND MORE!!
We came to Montana for a little R&R before school starts. We had already read the great reviews on the Eagles Nest and were very excited. When we pulled into the cabin area, we were greeted by over 30 elk in the yard and roadway. The kids immediately were in awe of this place! We spent 6 days touring the park. My son's favorite was Old Faithful and my daughter's favorite was the horse back riding. The cabin was beautifully decorated and the perfect size for our group of 7 people. The setting was gorgeous - perfect for morning coffee AND evening wine on the patio! Everyone in our group could not get over the views of the mountains, the fresh air, and the animals that roam around the cabin. Tammy was very easy to work with and made sure we had everything we needed for check in and check out. We will definitely be coming back again in the near future!!! How does next week sound?? :) THANK YOU for an amazing trip and sharing your beautiful cabin with us!
Thank you for the amazing review and for choosing to stay at The Eagles Nest at Yellowstone. I LOVE that the elk were there to greet you. We train them to do that on que. ;) We absolutely love hearing that your vacation and time at the cabin was everything you had hoped for and more. You are always welcome back in the future. It's booked this weekend but we do have dates open this fall and 2018 is booking up already.
Perfect clean and roomy spot for our family, with easy access to the park!
The property was surprisingly spacious and clean. Two families of four could get along in this for a few days! My children claim the beds are the most comfortable they have slept in. My young boys (7,6, and 3) enjoyed the common grassy area between all the cabins. There were no animals about the property during our stay, but plenty of pronghorn and elk were feeding just down the road. Google earth gives good appreciation of the cabins and their orientation. About 21 cabins surrounding a big grassy area, some of which also face the river. Big picture windows make you feel like you are outside when in the common area. Despite the "proximity" to the other cabins, you definitely have your own space and can enjoy the quiet sounds of nature. Access to the park was a breeze, just a few miles down the road. There is attention to detail and you can tell that the property is well cared for. We are suggesting this spot to my mother-in-law who will travel through in the fall!
Thank you for the review! I'm so happy your family enjoyed it. The animals this time of year wander through very, very early (I spoted about 30 elk in the yard about 2 weeks ago) around 5am. :) The beds are incredibly comfortable and a nice retreat at the end of a long day of hiking. We'd love to have your family back in the future!!
