great location right on the beach

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed the relaxation and seclusion of the location: close to the boardwalk and attractions of rehoboth, without being right in the middle of it. mistakenly thought there would be washer and dryer, but not a huge deal. loved being able to just walk to the beach at will. very cute place, would definitely go back <3

Great little beach house

  • 5 of 5

As soon as we walked in we could see the beach and it was stunning. The house was well furnished and very comfortable. The only down things were trying to find the internet password (suggest a more visible location) and also no bathmat or nonslip coating in the shower. Overall it was a great vacation and will consider using it again. Thank you for letting us enjoy our vacation in your beach house.

Relaxing

  • 3 of 5

Our stay was wonderful. It's out of the way so lots of privacy. We did not have to deal with all of the rt.1 traffic everyday, so we had more time on the beach. The cottage was nice everything worked and the sunrises from the screened in porch were beautiful. We will go back.

Nice cottage, fire hazard, jellyfish haven-- dog loved it!

  • 2 of 5

Very good find for a single family with dog. It is right on the beach, though with the renewed beachwork at Broadkill this makes for a bit of a trek (150 meters/yards?) over the dune to get to the water-- and that sand is HOT!!! Too hot for doggie paws (ours had to take breaks and lie down on the way!), but we were there in a heat wave. Note that this is the Delaware Bay, and not the Atlantic Ocean proper... so no big waves, and at our visit an absolute TON of jellyfish, making it pretty much impossible to swim, unless you like the idea of swimming in bubble tea. And though you don't feel the sting immediately, wait a few hours, and you'll be covered in horrible itchy bumps (if the jellyfish are spawning, as they were our week).

In the cottage, the electrics are very old, and the plug-in lamps etc. have very frayed cords, so it was a bit frightening... we unplugged everything when we went out or went to sleep. A/C was not good enough to keep the cottage under 85 degrees or so in the heatwave... we roasted, but less inside than out (except when the power went out for a few hours one afternoon).

There is a great screen porch that we used a lot... right on the beach (though because of the dune you can't see the sea). A screen porch is essential, because there are a lot of horseflies, stinging flies and "greenheads"-- which bite or sting. But unfortunately the screen is very old and not sufficiently secured (big huge gaps), so flies do pour in, and then into the cottage. Can't say we slept very well there.

This all sounds very negative, and it is true that we were unable to see the water from the cottage, burned our feet getting to the sea, were stung by jellyfish and their venomous spawn, eaten and stung by bugs, overheated with poor a/c, worried about electrical fires, and had to chase a mouse out of the house.... but somehow we still had a very nice time. It is cozy, rustic and relatively inexpensive, and there are very few people on the beach. Nice for dogs... and great to go out at night, lie on the beach and look up at the stars-- it is really dark, very little light pollution. Cape Henlopen is not far, and you can hit the beach there on the Atlantic (though it is very crowded).

So all in all an adventure (not to be repeated).

Perfect cottage!

  • 5 of 5

This place was just perfect for our family of 4. It would have been perfect if we would have brought our dog but we chose to heave him with grandma. The water was right there. The morning sun rise is right out the back door. It was a great way to start the day! The beach restoration was way north from this cottage not sure when they will be back down this end. they were working 24 hours some days but it was so far up that we could not hear them. Parking was limited to park under the tree which resulted in sap on my car. Not sure if a full size suv or big truck could fit under the tree. But other than the sappy tree we would love to come back to stay at this cottage. Agent was excellent to rent the house. We did not have any issues so we did not have to contact her during our stay. Great little place.

Lovely Cottage Beach House on Bay

  • 4 of 5

This rental was such a nice cottage style house, which was very clean upon arrival. The personal notes around the house showed how much the owner cared for it. It worked really well for our family of 4, it was the perfect size, location, and price. The screened porch was nice to sit out and see the bay. It was much nicer in person than the pictures depicted. The Broadkill Store was open and was in walking distance, which was nice! We had rented a fishing kayak, which we could use right out in front in the bay. Being able to walk out and walk along the bay each morning was so nice and relaxing.

The downfall to the trip were the trucks working on the beach at all hours of the night due to the restoration of the beach along the bay, which I was unaware that they were doing until we arrived. They were working on the beach directly next to us, at times the trucks would shake the house. Fortunately we were able to use the beach right out front which worked well for our 2 year old, but not so well for fishing, which was the intent of our trip. As always in Broadkill there were days were the flies and nosseeum were bad, but it was mostly at night.

Being to Broadkill many times before if they had not been working on the beach this would have been the perfect location and size for our family, and once they are done with the work it will be a fantastic place to stay!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the nice review! We understand the beach restoration project has been a bit of a challenge for guests, but the work they are doing now will create a beautiful beach and lasting memories for guests in the future. We look forward to you staying with us again. Thank you.
