About the property

Welcome to our cozy Buoy House on Agate Beach located at the South-end of Lopez Island. Our family has enjoyed many fun, relaxing, and quality family times at Buoy House over the past twenty-one years . . . and it is now available to families and couples who will enjoy all the peaceful surroundings along with the awesome West facing waterfront views. Easy beach access will allow you to explore the driftwood beach, and perhaps your children can use their imagination and build a small fort, while you sit on the beach reading your favorite book. You can walk Agate Beach, hike a short distance to Iceberg Point to see more amazing views, ride your bike, sit on the front porch, and perhaps see an eagle or two. Each evening you will witness ever changing spectacular sunsets bringing your fun filled day to a memorable closing.

Buoy House is professionaly maintained and always kept in a clean and tidy manner. You will find all the necessary cooking equipment for meal preparation along with coffee maker, microwave, and toaster. Sleeping accomododations have quality linens and bedding. Buoy House is nestled in a quiet and rural area and is just an enjoyable fifteen-minute drive through pastoral farm country into town. Known as Lopez Village, you will find a fully stocked market, shops, cafes, galleries, restaurants, and bakery.

About Kirstie Noreen, Manager

BuoyHouse at Agate Beach has been our family retreat for twenty-one years. At the time of purchase our three children were in pre-school and we all found great joy from the pristine surroundings and simplicity found at Agate beach and the South end of Lopez. The family has never been ready to leave and return home and we feel quite fortunate that we have this retreat to enjoy, and now share on a limited basis with others.

Kirstie Noreen, Manager purchased this cabin in 1996

Why Kirstie Noreen, Manager chose San Juan Islands

When we purchased the property a complete renovation was done including all new windows to maximize the West facing views and ever changing sunsets. The no bank driftwood beach is just right out the front door. Guests will enjoy beachcombing and children can build forts and let their imagination run. Bring a good book for the beach and relax. Wildlife abounds and you are likely to see bald eagles, sea birds, deer, and sea mammals just out front of the cabin. You should sleep well while at BuoyHouse with the fresh air and peaceful no stress environment.

What makes this cabin unique

BuoyHouse is basic and uncomplicated offering guests and very clean, well maintained, and tidy cabin for their enjoyment. Morning walks along the beach are a given for our family, followed by a cup of coffee from the deck. The hike to Iceberg Point is just a short distance away. . . a must do memory builder.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for opening your wonderful home to us this past weekend. It was a delight exploring the natural surroundings and taking in the beautiful sunsets. It was so great coming home at the end of each day to such a well maintained and well loved home.

Thank you again and we hope to be back in the future.

Beautiful views and great weather!

  • 5 of 5

I was able to stay at Buoy House for a quick 2-day trip two weeks ago. The house was spotless and ready for use. It is basic, but has everything you need. Beautiful water view right out the front window. Gorgeous sunsets. Will stay again.

Great escape

  • 5 of 5

We were able to rent the Buoy House on short notice for a quick weekend getaway to unwind. There are beautiful water views from the house. The island is very quiet and peaceful this time of year. Just wish we could have stayed longer.

Fun family getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the bouy house for our family getaway. It's was very clean and functional. Best of all was the location. My boys played for hours on the beach and the large yard was perfect for soccer and frisbee. Just down the street was a great hike to iceberg point with beautiful views. But the view out the front door of bouy house was also fabulous! Swimming, beach combing, fort building with driftwood, sand castles, collecting shells, my boys love it! Thank you for a wonderful getaway.

Grest West Facing Beach / Beautiful Sunsets

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at BuoyHouse. The no-bank driftwood beach just right out the front door remains a family favorite for building forts, beachcombing, and just hanging out. Unbeatable sunsets to close out each relaxing day. Upon arrival we found the cabin to be spotless, fresh, and ready for our visit. We like to bike and hike out to Iceberg Point. This will not be our last trip and we look forward to retuning soon. Simply paradise.

Transcendent Scenery, Tidy Cabin, Relaxing Atmosphere

  • 5 of 5

If you've never been to Lopez Island, you're in for a treat. When you step off the ferry, you are really stepping into a different world. Time slows down. Cyclists outnumber cars. As do hippies. Motorists all give two-finger waves to one another. Wildlife is everywhere. The island is a real community. The Take It Or Leave It allows people to drop off books, clothing, food, etc. that they don't want and others can take what they want free of charge. It's just a different way of living -- and very refreshing when you want to escape that day-to-day drama of the mainland. Agate beach is on the south side of the island and has a relaxed beauty all to its own. A constant breeze whips up the sea grass on the top of the banks, eagles fly overhead, dear putter around in the front yard, whales swim in the distance. Kayaks and bicycles replace cars and trucks. Amazing nature hikes await. And this tidy cabin sits right in the middle of Agate Beach. We were able to sip cocktails and watch truly spectacular sunsets from the front room. All of Lopez is beautiful, but this is truly one of the special spots to unwind. This house is perfect for a family trip or a single person just wanting to get away. I can't say enough good things about this house, the people managing it, or the island itself. I wholeheartedly recommend staying here if you can make it. you won't want to go home!
