Beautiful spot for so close to town and I-5. Great comfortable gathering house!
This is a spacious split level house perched on a small grassy knoll from the banks of Long Lake in Lacey, WA. The entire upper portion (the better half) is the part of the house rented to guests. There is a 180 degree view of the beautiful & serene lake. An outdoor porch runs along the entire lakeside façade of the house & the may be enjoyed from indoor or outdoor. The grounds are a handsome balance of manicured & natural growth. The banks of Long Lake & dock are accessible from the house by a few feet’s walk on a combination of steps & trails along the knoll. Though off only a mile of a main street, the location makes you feel you are away from civilization even though an emergency drive to the nearest Safeway grocery store is less than 10 minutes away. This is perfect for a tranquil getaway.
By “fully loaded” I mean there is an assortment & number of watercraft available for guests’ enjoyment of the lake which my family & friends thoroughly enjoyed. Some were on the row boat almost the entire visit, only to come to the house to eat, hydrate & do bathroom breaks. The adults & kids alike enjoyed the kayaks, canoe & peddle boat. The neighbors & other users of the lake are respectful of water safety rules & boating courtesies which is assuring for those whose children are enjoying the lake, too.
In addition to the bedding & bath-related towels & sundries supplied at hotels & some vacation rentals, the lake house also provides complete laundry facilities (wash, dry, iron); the kitchen is supplied with dishware, drinking glasses & mugs, cooking pots & bake ware, as well as kitchen gadgets & small appliances. All that is needed to prepare a meal or host a small gathering is in the kitchen. I hosted out-of-town family & invited other family & mutual friends for a visit & reunion gathering of all ages. I was able to prepare for the celebration with much of the cooking materials --- including the two BBQ grills --- already supplied in the house, including outdoor seating & tables.
Lastly, the hospitality extended by & assistance from the on-site host speaks to the comfort & care for the guests. During pre-arrival & for planning purposes, the responsiveness to my inquiries were promptly & informatively returned.
The house made for a memorable time for my family, & a much talked about venue that continues to reverberate in our family conversations these days. Thank you for a place that helped to make great memories for my family!
We had the most amazing stay here while visiting my brother, who lives in nearby Olympia. The place is immaculately clean, the beds are soooo comfy, the kitchen is enormous and well-equipped, and there is a separate laundry area complete with detergent and places to hang items to dry. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. The outdoor area is what will keep us coming back.
There are two decks. The one upstairs has great seating and many pots of both flowers and herbs, which we were encouraged to use when we cooked (and we took full advantage of that!). The one downstairs has a hot tub and a picnic table and both have grills for guest use. The property has a dock and guests are allowed access to a paddleboat and several kayaks amongst other things. We had a great time kayaking across the lake and the younger kids enjoyed paddleboating out to the island while the grandparents sat on the deck watching the bald eagles swoop down and catch fish.
The hosts live onsite (downstairs) and are so friendly and gracious. We enjoyed talking to them and they were super helpful whenever we needed anything.
We plan to stay here every time we visit Washington and my son even suggested we alter our travel dates around its availability.
The excellent features of this property are:
1. The friendly and welcoming host. He lives downstairs and gave us a great orientation to get to know the house. He was very responsive to questions and needs that we had on site. For example, I couldn't find any plastic spatulas to use on the non-stick pans and sure enough...by the end of the day we were well equipped!
2. The house has all of the things that you need for a short or long term stay (i.e. laundry, grill, 2 TVs with netflix, full spacious kitchen, parking, and a deck of UNO cards!)
3. A large family could enjoy this house. I often struggle to find accommodations with 2 or more bedrooms. There were 3!
We loved living on the lake. We wish we were there during the summer!
You wouldn't trust a review if there was not any constructive criticism. I think the day charge during the summer is a little steep (but maybe not for your family). There was a little dusting to be done (but we gave the caretaker about 1 hour notice of our arrival. So, actually this an indication that they have the place looking good even when it's not occupied!)
Overall, an A+!
The Olympia area is well situated for access to just about any natural setting. Within a couple hours drive there is Pacific ocean beaches, the Cascade mountain range and Mt. Ranier, Puget sound and many rivers and lakes. There are plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities and the Seattle metro area is about an hour away.
