Overview

About the property

Barn, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths/ Limit 4 adults and 2 kids MAX

Luxurious amenities combine with beach casual to make our Nid d'Amour (Love Nest) distinctive. In it's prior life a 'pole barn', this property has now been converted into seventeen hundred square feet of self-contained privacy a short walk to the beach access, where the Mouth of the Elwha River and Strait of Juan de Fuca converge, with acres of sandy beach to romp on. When you arrive at your destination the refreshing sea air tells you immediately that this is a very special home-away-from-home and the evergreens whisper their welcome.

While oriented to the woods (and fenced) for maximum privacy, guests are lulled to sleep by the sound of the surf. Located 1/4 mile from the mouth of the Elwha River and access to Freshwater Bay, this property is popular with surfers, as they are within walking (there is also beach parking) distance of a great surfing area. We have also hosted guests interested in the Elwha Dam Removal Project, including the film crew who did the story of the river in a documentary called "The Breach".

Snuggle by the fireplace before slipping into the silky comfort of the European linens on your Cal-King canopied bed. Even rainy days are fun when you can listen to the rain falling on your tin roof. Enjoy cooking in a well-equipped kitchen (I don't like to cook on vacation but guests who enjoy cooking have said we have the best equipped kitchen of any vacation rental they have stayed in) or savor the unique flavors of the Pacific Northwest at one of the many excellent restaurants in town. (We are eight miles west of downtown Port Angeles, the park entrance for Hurricane Ridge or Victoria ferries).

Take a dip in your double fenced private hot tub, count all the stars you can't see living in town and revel in the smell of the sea. We frequently get guests who tell us 'last night was the best I've slept in ages'. While often used by lovers who want to get away from it all, (and frequent honeymooners), the house has been enthusiastically received by families wanting a unique location to use as their home base while they explore the wonders of the Olympic Peninsula or day-trip to Victoria, British Columbia. Originally with only a master bedroom with large Cal-King bed, we have added a second bedroom with a plush Eastern King bed, both covered with imported Italian linens. Also on display, our dad's piano from when he ran away from home to become 'a serious jazz musician,' before he grew up, married our mom and became Washington's best known jazz educator, Dr. Ralph Mutchler.(Google Jon Mutchler and a large posting about dad comes up, photos and all). We are currently collecting photos from the various jazz clinics and stage band festivals to post above the piano--our very first guest actually said, 'No way-I knew Ralph!' If you can provide one of the missing stage band tapes, stay one night free! In the living room the couch also converts to a 'full' sleeper (two small kids or one teenager) with tempurpedic foam added for comfort. Some guests could care less about TV but we do have a brand new Smart TV (Netflix, Hulu, etc) an expansive DirecTV package and tons of DVD's.

Kid-friendly amenities include board games, glider, dozens of Disney videos, a fire pit for weenie and marshmallow roasts plus, walk or drive to the beach.

The owners of the Love Nest live next door and are delighted to help their guests plan their excursions, recommend wonderful places to dine or even arrange for a masseuse to attend you after a full day of activities.

Comfortable, well provided house

  • 5 of 5

The rental area is large and has pretty much everything you want, and more. The host is accomodating. We would be happy to return.

It was quaint, however the smell of cat urine and uncleanliness was pronounced.

  • 1 of 5

We enjoyed the owners and the location very much. It was nice to walk to the beach and see the water and beach. However, in the master bedroom and bathroom there was a pronounced smell of cat urine that was overwhelming. We had to keep the windows open and I was afraid if putting things on the floor, out if fear of cat pee getting on our luggage. Also, a lot of the kitchen items appeared to be dirty and we needed to wash them before we used them. Overall it was a cute place and served its function, but it took some getting used to the smell and dirtiness.

Owner's Response: Thank you for helping us to correct anything wrong. The out door cat must have snuck in when the door was left open too long.

Awesome place!

  • 5 of 5

This place is the best. It is, as other reviews have said, one of the most well-stocked rentals I've ever stayed in, from the kitchen amenities to the amazing book and DVD collection, games, Weber bbq grill, right down to the heated tile floor in the bathroom. The place is very spacious, and feels quite homey and comfortable. The owners have thought of many little touches to make your stay enjoyable. And nothing beats the hot tub under the trees or stars! Thank you Allen and Lyndee, we will stay here again if we ever return to the area.

We stayed 6 nights in this charming hide-away. We were a group of 4--my husband and I and our son and daughter-in-law. The cottage is very roomy so we were able to have privacy as well as family time in the huge living area. They have many, many DVD's to watch and many, many books to read----so no need to bring any with you! Also, the kitchen is fully stocked for cooking and dining. We loved the "country" location--Lots of trees and places to walk, very close to the Strait----very quiet and restful. Allen was so helpful and good to us---we would love to have spent more time with him. My only regret was that we didn't bring our little dog since they had such a wonderful, fenced-in dog yard---even a dog house!

Charming Place, Charming Host

  • 5 of 5

This is a gem of a place; the outside resembles a garage, but the inside is clean, well-appointed and very homey. Beds are very comfortable, we loved the hot-tub right outside our door, complete kitchen made meals easy. Spacious bathroom, out of the way of traffic and bustle - all in all, a great stay. Allen was a gracious host.
