PIRATE COVE COTTAGE DESCRIPTION:

Simple but clean authentic 50s weekend cottage that has been completely updated. Cottage has a really excellent location, a large private yard, and ample parking. Front yard with patio wood or charcoal barrel-barbeque (front patio presently under renovation), and back yard patio with stainless steel gas barbecue adjacent to backyard deck (presently shared with building materials). Nevertheless the backyard deck has a lovey low wrought iron table, 2 comfortable lawn chairs, and 2 wrought iron garden chairs to relax outside. The backyard deck is lit at night by either solar lights and/or porch light. Gas heater for middle of backyard patio table is made available during winter with beautiful pumice rocks. We love the green tailed fire flies that are surprisingly ugly up close but that create a magical moving lights display when in season. Rockport offers a peace with a real relaxing silence at night. Full facilities with no additional per person or pet fees for an affordable short-term getaway. Just a one time cleaning fee of $60 with each booking.

622 South Live Oak Street is an open-plan cottage with one bathroom in the charming Heritage District neighborhood just minutes walking distance from quaint old downtown Rockport with art galleries and places to eat, the city beach, the Navigation Marina district, and nearby city fishing pier that is lit at night. Fishing pier is right on market and a straight two minutes brisk walk to the waterfront.

Front entrance opens to sun room (presently updated) with comfortable seating and radio on one side and bed on other that is separated from the rest of the house by a glass paneled door for some privacy. Main living space is arranged in an open Hotel-suite layout with one full bed, two twin sized beds in the back room, two additional twin fold up beds in laundry room that can be moved to main room if needed, and a Graco Pack N Play baby bed in front sun room that can be set up on request. (Bring own baby sheets and blankets at this time.) Front room is excellent for baby naps and for mom if necessary.

SEE PHOTOS FOR DETAILS AND FEEL FREE TO ASK US QUESTIONS. (present photos do not show all of the latest updates as yet.) In main suite is the kitchenette, dining nook, entertainment center, and a large bamboo sofa that has just been added. Table has just been strengthened with stainless steel bolts which is the pirate way to do things.

The main room opens up through two square arches to the high ceiling back room with the two single beds on one side and the laundry area on the other.

The bathroom is off the main room and consists of a curved glass shower, modern one piece toilet, and pedestal basin. Shower head is large gravity type that takes some getting used to for some. Left is hot and right is cold. We provide soap, shampoo, and conditioner.

Basic Cable TV and WiFi Internet available. (Just DVD library available due to storm Harvey right now.) The entertainment center has a DVD and DVD library with an excellent selection of some classical and iconic modern movies with brochures from the local chamber of commerce on year round events and activities. The latest DVD addition is Gravity with Sandra Bullock. There is a mini book library in storage cabinet in main room with reading for adults, children, and hard back books for babies. The cabinet doubles as our supplies storage center and has two large lower draws available for our quests' clothes and belongings.

We are pet friendly with a fenced back yard (fence bent up a little for now - due to Harvey. But still functional!) Updated traditional "batch" type beach cottage. All electric with large very cold AC and heat window unit, and new smaller unit in front room with remote. Flat-top range with overhead microwave and refrigerator in modernized functional but simple kitchenette. Stackable washing machine and drier combination in laundry area. All done by us as a work of love in tradition of Heritage District batches which are fast disappearing. Its quaint but cute, its old but rebuilt pirate tough and strong. Some cracks here and there still remain but improvements making it better and better each year. Its now proven Hurricane Harvey tough.

2 minute walk to City fishing pier that is lit at night, and 3-5 minute drive to free dog beach before entrance to City beach. Best to buy yearly pass sticker to city beach that goes on your car. The city beach has an excellent salt water beach at far end for toddlers. There are nice nearby restaurants within walking distance, and with a short drive there is an HEB, Walmart, Walgreens, several fast food options, and an ACE hardware. Mac's barbeque is on the corner but recovering from Hurricane Harvey. (We text a restaurant list on request. (Your suggestions and updates are welcome). We also text instructions and house rules with further information about Pirate Cove Cottage and what we provide after you make your reservation.

Bring your boat for fishing, or canoe, or bikes for relaxing rides or walks along the waterfront on Water Street just 2 blocks away. Rent a kayak or golf cart. Long graveled driveway that easily accommodates a boat and truck or several vehicles.

CANCELLATION POLICY ADDENDUM: Post Hurricane Harvey, all cancellations according to our site cancellation policy will be charged an additional $60 for bank fees and processing fees.

KEYWORDS: Cabin, Cottage, Bungalow, Batch. Private property with plenty of parking and privacy, fishing, pet friendly, suitable for a boat

About Christopher Anderson

We believe you will like Rockport as much as we do. Its an exceptional little Texas Coast town. We are Christopher and Mercedes Anderson with two children Christopher 18 years of age at Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi on the Island from the Fall 2015, and Nicole 16 years of age (the little girl in the photo when we bought the place in 2003) who is in High School and loves and excels at dance. Our vacation rental has been a family project with everybody participating in the restoration of this Rockport vacation cottage. We continue to make updates and improvements each visit. The photos reflect updates through February 2016 with the addition of deck furniture on the backyard deck.

Christopher Anderson purchased this cabin in 2003

Why Christopher Anderson chose Gulf Coast

When our children were little we camped on weekends all around South Texas. After a very wet season and super sized mosquitos to boot, we dropped into Rockport which we fell in love with and got interested in buying a small cabin in this picturesque little Texas Gulf Coast town. We finally tracked down our property in 2003 and began renovating and restoring it to help preserve the traditional historical charm of the Heritage district of Rockport. The City plans to begin work on a paved walking trail that will pass in front of our cottage. There is a bird reserve on both sides of the street just past Walmart north on old 35 through old downtown. (A 10 minute car trip is required)

What makes this cabin unique

Rockport is a particularly beautiful and picturesque spot on the water with clean air and starry Texas nights. Silence is golden brings a peace at times that is healing to the spirit. There are small museums and art galleries in old downtown Rockport. The town is relaxing peaceful and there are many local things to keep you occupied and entertained. To the North is the sister city Fulton where there are additional restaurants and on the far side of the Rockport-Fulton community there is a small airport. Rockport is about 30 minutes north of Corpus Christi. One will want to come again and again to sample the peace and calm. Don't fail to take the free ferry across to Port Aransas. There are lots of attractions and local small towns. It is a great and practical base to explore the greater area. The Shrimpree Festival is 2nd weekend in June in Aransas Pass. 4th July Public Fireworks on the beach.

This place felt like home to us. Very comfortable and cozy.

  • 5 of 5

This is a nice get away cottage. Has everything needed for comfort. Nice yard for dogs. We stayed for a week and it felt like home away from home. We would stay here again without hesitation.

Owner was very nice; house needs work

  • 3 of 5

First off, the owner was very helpful, friendly, and accessible. He made everything easy and was accommodating. The house unfortunately needs a lot of work. For one, we didn't feel comfortable, a bunch of females in a home with little to no coverage over the windows. We had create some "makeshift curtains" that wouldn't damage the cheap rods but would help us feel safe and not like people could see us from the outside in the bathroom or any other room in the house! The house has very little privacy, basically one large space and then the front room has a door to separate the one bed. It does sleep 7, only if you're willing to put 2 people in the biggest bed (probably a full size) and the two pullouts had little to no space to "pull out". Thankfully there was only 5 of us and the 5th girl had to sleep between the back door (blocking it) and right by the washer/dryer. The kitchen table was so cheap and flimsy one of the legs fell off so we never got to use it. The location of the home was good but needs some major upgrades. The price was fair, but I should have paid a little more to stay somewhere that had some of the basic things I mentioned. With just a little money invested you could increase the value and end up with happier customers.

Live Oak Street runs North South. There are three houses to the corner shops on Market street. Market street is a main thorughfare which runs West East from Hwy 35 to the ocean front. Turn right onto Market from Hwy 35 if coming from Corpus Christi and then it's a right on Liveoak three short block before reaching the water. If coming from Houston, Dallas, or San Antonio you will probably come from the north on the Coastal Hwy 35 and when passing through Rockport Hwy 35 will veer right at the light instead of going through old downtown and then you should turn left at the next traffic light on Liveoak Street. After a few blocks and crossing Market street the house 622 S Liveoak St is on the left. On the opposite side of Liveoak street on the corner with Market street is Mac's barbecue restaurant. There are festivals throughout the year in Rockport. Its a quaint little town with lots of customs, culture, and local pride. In the entertainment center we have plenty of brochures about the area, services, and year round activities. Across the north channel from the private City beach is Key Allegro where expensive homes are found including a gated community where one of our country legends has a sea-side mansion. There is a Wellsfargo bank, McDonalds and a Sonic. Further along is a Walgreens, O'Rielly's Auto store, Ace Hardware, and an HEB. There are lots of birds and a new bird sanctuary can be found on the North side of the Walmart. The drive to them around the water front is a scenic joy. Sea birds can be found siting in the middle of the street alone or in pairs at different times during the year. It is a place you will enjoy.
