Location, location, location! The 'Verdie May House' is an adorable 1930's cottage located in the heart of Lewisburg's Historical District - only a short 5 minute stroll to restaurants, cafes and shopping. Enjoy exploring the historical sites or relaxing on the spacious porch with a cool drink. This newly renovated home is the perfect place to enjoy Lewisburg!

This cosy 1930's cottage offers the opportunity to step back in time and immerse yourself in Lewisburg's roaring 30's (but with modern comforts!). This freshly renovated cottage has an amazing history - it was home to several local identities (including Eileen Kramer, an Australian National Treasure dancer and acclaimed local furniture maker Ozzi May and his wife, Verdie). The cottage is our favorite place for hanging out with family and friends - particularly as we can walk everywhere (and leave the car at home)!. We love using the cottage as a base for exploring Lewisburg and know you will too! It's the perfect 'home away from home'!
The house is small (great for 1-4 people) and has a spacious, well equipped kitchen (with new appliances), comfortable living area, study area with large desk, two comfortable bedrooms (with luxury linens) , separate laundry, a cute upstairs bathroom (with a clawfoot bathtub) and wonderful new large downstairs bathroom (featuring plush towels). .
Original artwork and crafts by local artists, (including my Dad, Ronald Refsland), is found throughout the house.
The large covered porch is perfect for relaxing anytime of the day (even when it rains), people watching or for outdoor dining. You will enjoy views of Old Stone Church and the cemetery (directly across the street), Carnegie Hall and other historical sites. We have beautiful and comfortable outdoor furniture, including an antique iron outdoor dining table.

The large patio (using original stone and local river rocks custom designed by a local artisan) behind the house is a more private space - with the original outdoor fireplace available for BBQ's or making s'mores.
The large front yard is perfect for playing a friendly (or competitive!) game of Molkky or croquet (we have the games for you),

The queen bed and two twin beds have brand new quality mattresses with quality linens and duvets and fluffy pillows. The towels are 100% cotton. We are particular about dust and cleanliness as our daughter has allergies.
The city water is perfect drinking water.

We enjoyed another great stay at the Verdie May house this weekend. This is our go-to place anytime we go to Lewisburg. The house is perfect for us and is in an ideal location adjacent to downtown. Itā€™s perfect for walking to the downtown restaurants and shops, which are so nice. The beautiful wrap around porch cannot be beat! We spend lots of time out there. I highly recommend the house for anyone looking for a great place to call home while visiting the area.

My wife and i and another couple had a great stay in Lewisburg at this cute cottage. The porch space is the highlight and we enjoyed coffee in the morning and unwinding at night out there. The downstairs bathroom and shower are amazing! The best part was the location. We walked to 4 different awesome restaurants, all within 3 to 4 blocks, as well as all the downtown shops. Elinor was great with communication and made the stay very enjoyable! Would definitely recommend!

Cute tiny home close to everything

Great weather allowed us to enjoy the beautiful yard and porch. This extra area gave spaciousness to this tiny home. Smartly decorated with undersized furniture, the home is perfect for a singleton or couple. We had many events to attend over the weekend, so the extra bedroom was perfect as a dressing room. This home was very comfortable and only a few blocks from town, so restaurants and shopping are close by. We would definitely stay again!

Lewisburg Get Together

I met two old friends from Atlanta and Canton in Lewisburg so that we could spend a couple of days motorcycling in the Virginia and West Virginia mountains. The home was prefect for our needs as we wanted something in a great riding area and also within walking distance of great restaurants and shops during the evenings. Everything was perfect!

We had a retreat for the leaderahip of our church here. Between the inside seating eara and outdoors seating area, the proximity to downtown, and whats available at the house, we loved our time staying here. We would definitely come back!

Darling little home

We had a lovely weekend at the Verdie May House. It's a tiny place, but full of charm. As long as you know you're staying at a small historic house, you shouldn't be surprised by the creaky floors, steep stairs and ability to hear each other in separate rooms - all part of the experience! Location was perfect - very easy walk to all the fun shops and restaurants of Lewisburg. It was clean and hosts communicated well. The decor/atmosphere felt like a trip to grandma's house, but with modern amenities.

I am a Lewisburg native (my family have lived in Lewisburg and Greenbrier County for generations). I went to Greenbrier East High School and graduated from West Virginia University. I married an Australian and moved to Brisbane, Queensland many years ago. We have two daughters and I am a Professor at Australian Catholic University.

As Lewisburg and West Virginia will always be 'home' for me, my husband and I decided this house would be perfect as our Lewisburg home. My Mother, Aunt and two Uncles bought the house in 1995 and I bought it from them in 2016.
The location of the house is special as from the back porch I can see the house where my grandparents lived - where we had our wedding reception many moons ago. As a child, I visited Verdie May (who lived in the house).
When we bought the house it was in poor condition - the renovations were extensive and a new addition was added (bathroom, laundry and porch). It is a wonderful place for our family - our daughters love it!

The location of the house is fantastic. I love being able to walk everywhere (we very rarely use the car!). The new porch is the best place to relax - and to see what is going on!
