Great place to stay
The review title says it all and the owners are extremely nice.
Excellent and no surprises. Looked as it does on website
As a small group (4) of 50 somethings, the house accommodated us perfectly. Felt so comfortable not like we "might break something". One of us is an executive chef and was thrilled with fully equipped kitchen, right down to the utensils.
Kayaks, boogie boards, puzzles and games for rainy days was all there. I am an avid canoeer but took a kayak out to the sound and caught fresh fish for dinner.
We brought our 24 ft. Boat and the dock was perfect. The sound was too rough our first two days to take boat out, so we fished off the dock behind the house and caught legal size puppy drum, flounder, sea trout and black sea bass. Only annoyance were the mosquitos but plenty of citronella candles helped.
The house is clean, bright and comfy. Perfect for a family with children but private for two couples because of the small "apartment" on the first floor. Full size bed and full bath. We had our own space and met daily for breakfast and dinners up in the main part of the house.
On our way down to Frisco, we had a couple of questions for the homeowner and gladly talked to us on the phone. Also, we almost did not go because our vacay was the same week that hurricane Irma headed towards the U.S. the homeowners were in contact with us the days before our scheduled trip. Until they felt comfortable for our safety and Irma was not a threat to the outer banks did we go with our plans. To me, that was exceptional!!
We will recommend Otters Bay to friends. Thank you John and Cheryl for a beautiful vacation home.
Wonderful place and location.
We had a great stay. Loved all the thoughtful small things, like a small pack of toilet paper (super helpful before our grocery store run) and bottles of wine, beach chairs and umbrella and boogie boards. Not having to bring our own bed linens was a huge plus. The downstairs bedroom was great for the few days my Mom visited, upstairs was prefect for us and our two daughters. Location was ideal with easy access to tons of stuff. The Frisco beach is amazing, easy parking, bathrooms, it was never crowded, and perfect sand and ocean. Loved the kayaks and took several trips into the sound! One thing I would suggest checking is the dryer. It took up to 4 cycles on high to dry a load of towels each time. Not a major thing, but worth looking in to. Thanks for a great family vacay!
I'm so glad you had a great vacation and enjoyed the house! We were just at the house and checked the dryer and we were all ready to go dryer shopping until I really looked at the dryer. I always tried to use the timed dry cycles which are only a total of 30 minutes with 20 minutes of heat and 10 minutes of cool down so it would take 2 or 3 cycles if doing towels or blankets. I never tried the auto sense dry, I didn't know what that was so this time I used it. It dried 4 beach towels and 1 bath towel and several bathing suits and clothes in one cycle. I also washed all the blankets and comforters in the house and used that auto sense cycle and dried them in 1 cycle. I will type up instructions for the dryer next time I have my printer down there. Thank you
Nice house in a quiet neighborhood!
Overall the house worked great for us. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you need at the beach. We brought our boat so the dock was a must. It was very well constructed and we sat out there every night. The area is not commercialized like others areas of OBX which is exactly what we were looking for.
Excellent location, nice house
Location was great and fishing from the dock behind the house was very relaxing. Just a few miles down the road to our favorite beach, Frisco. The only issues we had was no storage/closet space. And I do believe that a new dryer is needed. The Welcome goodies were much appreciated. Everyday was beautiful and we had a great time from Avon to Hatteras Village. Possibly rent again 😁
We are glad you enjoyed your vacation and fishing from the dock. We will definitely check the dryer. I have thought the same thing before but I noticed that the dryer has only a 30 minute timed dry cycle which means 20 minutes of heat and 10 minutes of cool down. My dryer at home has a 60 minute timed dry cycle so it has 50 minutes of heat and 10 minutes of cool down. So it makes sense that the dryer at the house may need to be run for 2 or 3 cycles to be equivalent to most dryers. I'm not sure why the dryer was made that way or if the previous owners noticed that when they purchased it but our next dryer will definitely have a longer timed dry cycle. Of course, it may have broken over the summer and we will take a look and replace it if needed. Thank you.
Perfect for multiple families and pets!
We absolutely LOVED our stay at Otters Pub. My family owned a cottage in the same neighborhood when I was a kid so it was just like coming home for me. There was plenty of space for my husband, my parents, my grandmother, our 2 dogs, and myself. The mother-in-law suite is perfect for having your own space but still vacation with extended family. We also enjoyed using the kayaks provided and launched right off the dock into the canal every day. There are even fishing rods, life jackets, boogie boards, sand toys, puzzles, games, DVDs, music, books - every possible entertainment piece available! My husband and I particularly loved the fact that Otters Pub is dog friendly and we were able to travel with our two furbabies who enjoyed a kayak ride and swimming as well!
Every thing was very clean and any possible kitchen utensil was available. Linens for the beds were provided which is an amazing thing after a long car ride to be able to lay down on a freshly made bed and take a nap right away. It was also amazing to be able to wash our laundry before we left (washer and dryers in rentals are rare on the island in our experience) so we didn't have to have any wet clothes or towels packed up on our 12 hour drive home.
From the moment we stepped in it was welcoming and perfect. The owners even personally checked in with us upon arrival and personally contacted us before we left. Otters Pub is our new home away from home and we will definitely be back in the future!
Ferry to Ocracoke and the mainland, Go-karts, Kite Surfing, close enough to Kitty Hawk to run up for a day of hang-gliding or to take a ride on a small plane over the historic shipwrecks! Great neighborhood for walking, biking and using the kayaks to explore the canals and the Pamlico Sound. Perfect for those that enjoy surf-fishing and just relaxing on the beach. Be sure to visit the historic Hatteras Lighthouse and climb to the top for a beautiful view of the Outer Banks! Also, if you want to drive on the beach there are couple of places you can rent a 4WD vehicle!!
