About the property

2-Bedroom, 1 Bath House In North Portland

This spacious, comfortable well-appointed two-bedroom, one bath home is the perfect place to land in Portland! A short four-block walk from the University of Portland, the Art House is a convenient launching pad for any neighborhood you’d like to explore in the city – just to start, you are near the St. John’s, Alberta Arts, Mississippi/Boise, Overlook and downtown neighborhoods.

Called the Art House, the 1924 bungalow showcases art and designer furniture by some of the area’s best artists. You can simply enjoy the art, you can purchase it (all artworks are for sale), or you can book an art class during your vacation with the owner, whose onsite studio is in the garage! Please follow this link to register for a three-hour drink and paint class in the studio, offered most Saturday afternoons:

There is plenty of space and all the amenities you need to make the Art House your home away from home. The two air-conditioned bedrooms -- one with a new king bed and one with a new queen bed– are outfitted with luxurious 100 percent cotton linens. The bright full-size bathroom sports an extra-long tub and shower. WiFi is available throughout. The living room has a working fireplace and hosts two sitting areas, including a television with cable and DVD player. The dining room seats six at the handcrafted, curly maple table, and is the perfect place for romantic dinners or family and friend gatherings. The spacious kitchen has everything you need for cooking.

The Art House is a non smoking household - all smoking must be done outdoors.

The Art House sleeps four people in comfort. There is also a comfy foldout cot if you need another single bed. It is perfect for city visits, romantic getaways, visiting relatives (including students at the University of Portland), visiting faculty, family holidays, weekends with friends, or solo travelers and professionals who crave a more homey atmosphere than a hotel can provide.

The Art House is pet friendly – well-behaved dogs are welcome with pre-arrangement and a deposit. We have a dog cushion for them! Shared with the owner is a fenced back yard with a quiet patio, and a ready BBQ for grilling.

One off-street parking space is available, and there is plenty of street-side parking in this peaceful and quiet neighborhood. You will sleep soundly!

The onsite owner, Leah, is an artist and art teacher, who lives and works on the property in a separate unit -- her painting studio is housed in the converted detached garage. She is available if you need help, and is always happy to tour you around the studio, but will otherwise leave you alone to enjoy a peaceful vacation.

Our short-term rental permit number is: 17-155434-000-00-HO

Why Leah Kohlenberg chose University Park

This is among the closest vacation rentals to the University of Portland, so if you are a visiting professor or a parent visiting a student enrolled at the school, you couldn't find a closer place to stay. There are two small parks within easy walking distance. The main portion of Columbia Park is a mile away with huge trees and walking paths and a pool and playgrounds. The neighborhood is close to downtown and to more bustling places with little shops and galleries (St. John's, Kenton, and Mississippi-Boise). There are good restaurants nearby, on Lombard and Greeley.

University Park itself is a quiet green oasis. Many of the neighbors have lived here a long time. It's a peaceful place, and we are so excited to share it with you.

What makes this house unique

I love this house! It reminds me of the home I grew up in in nearby Seattle, Washington. It's a beautiful 1920s house with many lovely details, from the curved doorways to the big kitchen to the peaceful bedrooms overlooking the garden.

Lovely art house in Portland

  • 5 of 5

This is the perfect little house for a getaway in Portland. It is situated in lovely neighborhood with easy access to restaurants and shopping. The house itself is an art gallery. We have never felt cozier or more comfortable in a rental. Leah is the consummate hostess and made us feel welcomed and comfortable.

Lovely Art House in a great location with friendly hosts!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Art House in July 2018. It was our home base while visiting our son that lives in Portland. The house is clean and beautifully decorated. We had everything we needed in the kitchen and used the gas grill a few times as well. This is a great location for anywhere you want to go in the Portland area. We rented bikes and used them to go to our favorite places in St Johns; Occidental Brewing which has a fantastic view of the St Johns Bridge, and Shanti Om yoga. Leah is a friendly and generous hostess and we enjoyed getting to know her. We will definitely be back!

Quaint and artsy

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Art House was excellent. The house is very comfortable and all the artwork makes it homey and interesting. Our hostess, Leah, was wonderful, friendly, and available whenever needed. She will even give you an art lesson and is an excellent teacher. Why would anyone stay in an impersonal hotel? We highly recommend this property!

Warm, Artsy, Beautiful Lodging

  • 5 of 5

Leah’s property is nicely situated in the quiet part of town near U of Portland. Leah is a phenomenal host artist and curator of art in the home. Our family enjoyed the art, cleanliness and warm atmosphere provided and would definitely consider staying at the Art House again.
