The 1400 square foot lower duplex is available year round and features an open floor plan, two decks with site views up to Council Crest, southern exposure for sun all day long, two bedrooms with queen beds, a fold down couch bed for two more people in the living room, a beautiful dinning room for 8 people, a fully equipped kitchen and a very large living room. Great for family gatherings for holidays, weddings, graduation, etc. The immediate neighborhood offers excellent walking, jogging and biking along tree lined streets filled with beautiful old Portland homes. In winter our bird feeder attracts 15 varieties of birds along with squirrels and chipmunks. House also features a 7 foot Mason Hamlin Piano which is available to serious pianists with advance notice. A guitar is available to all. Keith and Rocio are your hosts. We live in the upper duplex. We are quiet and work full time but friendly and helpful if you need us. Per city regulation our max occupancy is 5 overnight. House is equipped with basic cable + HBO only (bring your books or tablet for netflix) and it has a gas furnace but no AC as summers in Oregon tend to not be very hot with low humidity. Homelike accomodations in Portland
My mother, aunt and I stayed in this beautiful, light-filled home for our 4 night stay in Portland and we could not stop remarking about our love of this house, along with it's tucked away location just outside of downtown. Not only was it spacious and comfortably furnished, it felt lived-in and warm. Keith answered all of my questions promptly, and instructions for checking in were clear and easy. He stopped in the first afternoon to introduce himself and welcome us.
The kitchen was very well equipped and even had a vacuum-pump-type wine saver to my delight. Linens were nice. And there are many other nice touches throughout that are too numerous to mention. The deck is private and surrounded by shrubs and trees for a cottage-like feel.
As for the location, there is one nice cafe within walking distance that was a welcome relief after our travel day and aversion to getting back in transit to go anywhere else. We also walked to the Japanese garden. Otherwise we used Uber forgetting around. The neighborhood has a ton of character and was delightful to walk through. The rhododendrons and azaleas were in full spectacular bloom.
We all agreed we would stay there again, and highly recommend this property for anyone travelling to Portland. Thank you to Keith and Rocio for creating such a welcoming home.
Artsy comfortable and gracious ground floor unit in a quiet neighborhood on an interesting windy street. Every amenity provided. Big dining room table with many place settings. Pretty garden views. Responsive host.
Great house in great location
The Stanhope Cottage was the perfect retreat for me and my daughter. It is located in the middle of the West Hills, surrounded by forestry, but only a 5 minute drive into downtown Portland. The house was very well equipped and extremely comfortable.
Lovely plant-filled house above Portland
This is a lovely property with friendly and helpful hosts. It is walking distance to downtown if you don't mind the hill and is thoughtfully equipped with practically everything, down to beautiful coffee and tea selection. Our dog-loving daughter enjoyed a visit from the intrepid and equally friendly Nano. Many thanks to Keith and Rocio for a pleasant stay in Portland!
A lovely home in a beautiful setting.
We recently spent a week at the Stanhope Cottage. The setting is enhanced by the fact that the rental home is on the second floor, surrounded by trees, and overlooking rose bushes, rhododendrons, and ferns. There are 6 or 7 steps to get to the rental space, along with a hand rail. Once inside, you enter a large living room that has abundant south facing window, and French doors that open onto a large deck. Unlike most rental spaces, the cottage is not a sterile bland environment. As a foodie, the kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, dishes, flatware, and appliances. Do use the fan over the stove, unless you like the sound of a fire alarm. The beds are comfortable, with nice bedding. The cottage has ample bath towels, and soap, shampoo, and lotion if you forgotten yours. There is a washer and dryer available, but you need to arrange usage with the owners. Speaking of the owners, they are welcoming, and respond quickly to questions or requests.
I stayed here with my friend for her birthday. The house was nicely laid out with a large, spacious kitchen, lots of light, and a nice living room.
We are in Portland Heights overlooking downtown. The neighborhood has beautiful old trees and historic homes. Very green and peaceful but short hop to the Alphabet District with restaurants like Papa Hyden and Serrato, the Pearl with Powells Books and Andina and downtown with the art museum, concert halls and PSU. Many scenic walking, jogging and biking routes.
