Great get away

My daughter and I stayed at the Solymar. It is on the beach with a nice couple of restaurants to choose from. I liked the security at the gates for coming and going. Very quiet and relaxing atmosfere. Everyone was friendly.

Great location!!!

The condo is co-located with the resort. Nice pool and right at the beach. Awesome ocean view. Did not eat at the restaurant, but buffet was 15-20 USD. The beach front cantina was a nice place to hang out. Beers were about 3.50 USD each. The host was easy to communicate with. Hope to make it back.

Amazing Ocean view!

The location was amazing; just steps away from the beach. The property manager was quick to respond to any issues that came up. Overall the stay was good! We would definitely consider staying here again if we had a car to get around in.

Great space in a beautiful location

My daughter and I had a great time at the space. The place was clean, and the beds were comfortable. We had all we needed. The resort grounds, staff, and restaurant were excellent. Very friendly and helpful. We found the bus line easy to navigate, and taxi's were always available. We always felt safe during our stay.

Screen on balcony broken, no Electric kettle no wine glasses, the property is not well maintained, the elevator not working for 14 daiys. In 2017, and in 2018 same situation. there are new hotels being built this hotel will not succeed in beating the competition.

Great view and beach. Pool area very nice as well. Made use of the kitchen making meals most days of our stay. The air conditioning is a beast! It cools the place down in 10 min!!! Also, there was a 5 gallon drinking water there for us as well. Much appreciated. The place could use a coat of paint to get rid of a few scuff marks on the walls...and a more comfortable couch would be nice too. But we loved it and had a great time! What we

The communication with the host was excellent. The property itself is very good however it does lack some maintenance. There was some mold by the curtains, kitchen was not very clean specially around the burners. On the positive side the view to the ocean was great, it was old but clean, and proprety staff was very polite. For the price i think it was good.

A Wasted Opportunity

The setting, view, deck and location are excellent. My wife and I are not posh snobs....we have stayed in everything from trapper's cabins in the north to tents in Scotland. This condo could be great BUT it has some major shortcomings. We can easily forgive paint scrapes on the walls and minor gouges on the furniture. But no hot water in the kitchen is a joke. Stains on towels, an outdated and grungy bathroom, no contact at all with onsite manager once we made it known we weren't interersted in booking tours with him left us less than impressed. Update the kitchen, bathroom and give a little more client service and all would be well.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

Arrived 2 days before Christmas to start our stay of almost 3 weeks. Ended up going almost 10 days without hot water. Host kept telling us nothing was wrong. Some days we had no water at all so we couldn't wash our hands, use the bathroom or shower. Finally got it resolved after we contacted VRBO and the owners called us. Host didn't tell them there was an issue. We saw black mold all over the room. I have pics to back this up. There are large holes in the ceiling and the room overall was extremely dirty with ants everywhere. Toilet had white chalky stuff floating it in at all times. AC has duct tape all over it and cardboard stuffed against it to keep it from rattling. It's very loud. The couch has a very visible stain of bodily fluids on it! Pics in listing are misleading. There is no dish drainer. Almost no utensils. No paper towels. No hand towels. No washcloths. Nothing. We had to buy everything. The beds were HORRENDOUS! We paid over 30 for 2 mattress toppers and they didn't help at all. Beds are basically concrete with sheets. We woke up aching terribly every morning. Didn't sleep very much. This room is on a lower floor, so you will hear everything up above from heels clacking on the floor to people dropping stuff and furniture being moved at all hours of the night. We were woken up countless times due to this. We have stayed at this complex many times but this was our first time in this room. We wouldn't stay here again if it was free. You have been warned!!!

Needs a little more thoughtfulness

Three stars is for the location: right on a beautiful stretch of beach with a cute bar and grill. The room overlooks the pools and pool bar which I could go into but this review is of the condo. They don't have to do much more to get another star, but these are such obvious inexpensive fixes that it surprises me they aren't already in place. I don't want to be sexist but I suspect the fact that the property manager is a man and doesn't think of the little necessities & niceties is a factor. PLUSES: Convenient parking Location Lots of drawers, closet and storage Good sized shower with good water pressure Kitchen with full-sized fridge & freezer with ice, plenty of serving ware, basic cooking utensils. Balcony overlooking pool Water cooler in the room Comfortable beds with clean pillows Fast wifi & lots of outlets Tour bus pick up/drop off in the lobby MINUSES: No filters for the coffee maker? Salt? Paper towels or dishcloth to clean with? A kitchen sponge that doesn't smell bad? Garbage bags? You don't want to waste vacation time hunting down basic necessities that should already be there. Property manager is nice but not very responsive. It took more than 24 hours to get paper towels but only 45 minutes for him to show up to sell us a tour. No hair dryer. These are mandatory at a beach with all the swimming and humidity. Towels: We started with 1 medium towel, 2 bath towels and 1 beach towel. When I requested another beach towel (please have two of everything), more than a day later we were left 4 beach towels but they took away all the other towels. How about a couple of washcloths? Again, cheap fixes. There is a safe -- but it doesn't lock. What's the point? The rooms have almost no decor so not very cheerful. They could have something really nice and recommended but as it is today, I wouldn't recommend it to friends & family. Luckily my husband and I do not spend a lot of time in our hotels (though we like to cook our own breakfast and snacks) but overall the experience could have been more comfortable with a little thoughtfulness and minimal effort.

There were some initial problems with the room in the beginning which meant we had to wait around for about an hour and a half to get in to a room and then halfway through our stay we had to transfer to the room we originally booked.

Nice condo

Solymar is our favourite place in Cancun. Friends there make it a pleasant stay and the fact that we are out of the busyness of the main hotel zone makes it a quieter place with the beach we love

Fantastic location and view

We loved the location near the bottom of the hotel zone. The ocean waves are much bigger in this area, however. The condo had an amazing view of the ocean and the pool and it was roomy and had a decent sized kitchen. The owner checked up to make sure that we had everything we needed. Great time!
