About Birdie Holmes

Our family business is real estate sales, rental management, and property development. We design and build homes and love what we do. We think of the process as a multi-media art project on a BIG canvas! It is a lot of hard work, but also a creative and satisfying career. It is fun when we get to meet the travelers we host and it's always interesting to hear where they like to travel and why. Their comments are appreciated and help us build a travel log of places to go and things to do.

The seven-acre Caspar Coast House property was purchased in 1996. The vacation rental home was designed specifically for the east side of the property, a 1-1/4 acre lot. It was designed with guest comfort and privacy in mind. Construction began in 1999, and was mostly completed by July of 2005, when we added Caspar Coast House to the VRBO listings, and first welcomed our extended family for visits to help build word-of-mouth advertising.

The 'art project' continues today and we're very happy so many folks return to Caspar Coast House to see the progress and renew friendships. The Mendocino coast is a wonderful place to visit.

Why Birdie Holmes chose Caspar

When looking for property to build a new home we considered the north coast to be the perfect place. Mendocino County was already home and everything we wanted in a place to live: Natural beauty, ocean views, a healthy ecosystem, wildlife, quality restaurants, boutique shopping and cultural activities. There is much to enjoy on the north coast, including many parks and trails to explore. Caspar Coast House is located between two thriving towns, Mendocino and Fort Bragg. Each with their own unique personality and a variety of entertainment opportunities to choose from. The tiny community of Caspar has much more to offer than meets the eye. Caspar Inn & the Caspar Community Center offer live music, organic food and festivals. Cottage-crafts persons, and many talented artists, working in a multitude of mediums, create wonderful products to shop locally for. The mild climate produces abundant varieties of flora and fauna and there are many lovely gardens to explore. Tour the Mendocino Botanical Garden, '47-acres to the sea.' There is a lot of locally grown organic fresh food available, three-Farmer's Markets per week in the area and many fine-quality restaurant options for every taste and budget.

What makes this apartment unique

The views from Caspar Coast House are constantly changing. The light, color and textures of the ocean, sky, forest and meadow always provides something wonderful to see. The 'nature channel' is always on. Watch the whales and boats go by. The Osprey and Heron fly. Caspar Coast House is a great place to observe nature and the natural cycles. Peaceful and rural, there's much to appreciate and enjoy. There are many areas around the house and gardens to comfortably relax and enjoy the views.

Add to the retreat experience by reserving time for a relaxing, restorative body work session at the on-site massage studio, used exclusively for Caspar Coast House guests. With the hot-tub and steam-saunas to use as well, it's as if guests have their own private day-spa to use anytime. Rest and restore, without having to drive somewhere else to share services with the general public. Everything at your leisure, for a fraction of the cost. Organic gardens on the property offer fresh food and flowers most of the year.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Birdie. It was our pleasure meeting you too. We really loved your house. We're all comfortable during our stay. We liked soaking in the hot tub jacuzzi after our long day hiked. The bonfire we had was very memorable for us cause we had everyone gathered together for a good laugh, chatting, stargazing and drinking. We will absolutely recommend your house to our friends. Thanks again for your warmed welcome.

Sincerely,
May 2016

Comfortable, stylish home able to flexibly host a large family group

  • 4 of 5

We spent a late Christmas at the Caspar Coast House as a large family group and had a fabulous time. The property is nicely located for both Fort Bragg and Mendocino, as well as coastal access. We enjoyed the hot tub and the large communal space inside the house for socialising, playing games, and having family meals. The kitchen is very well equipped and easy to cook in, even when there are multiple cooks trying to use it simultaneously to pull off a large meal, which is no small feat. We really enjoyed our time in this peaceful location, and Birdie was an excellent hostess. We would love to come and stay again in the future.

The only reason this is a four and not a five star rating is the proximity of the other house to the coast house. It isn't as private as we would have liked in a perfect world.

Pleasant

  • 5 of 5

We gps the house and the gps actually brought us past the house to some u known place in the woods, immediately I thought I had been a victim of fraud, but as I was driving back trying to read the emails I saw the house that was posted on the website, absolutely gorgeous house, put whole group was amazed how big and beautiful the place was, so many great pieces of art and things in the house, def cozy, comfortable, and elegant. Had a juice press, we made grey hounds and drag juice for break fast,

The view was amazing, I'm really glad I booked this house and I hope to go back one day for another trip, thank you birdie

Large Group - Big Enjoyment!

  • 5 of 5

The Caspar Coast House was an absolutely wonderful place to stay! We had a very large group out for the weekend, and it fit our needs perfectly. Birdie and Howie provided us with wonderful hospitality and helped ensure that we had what we needed during our visit. We were able to easily cook and clean for over 20 people. Beautiful art, awesome hot tub, amazing grounds, and a glorious view. Highly recommended.

Great stay in Caspar

  • 5 of 5

This was a weekend 2 night stay for the bride groom and their friends. The home is beautiful and the hosts gracious. The house has two bedrooms on the main floor, with plentiful common space, and a living room for more informal sleeping. The upper level has 5 beds in a large area which allows for friends to spend time together, though with little privacy. The glass house with hot tub were really a nice feature. We did not spend much time a the house as the wedding was the main focus at the Caspar Community Center, just about a mile away. Great location, beautiful, elegant. Wonderful sound system. We appreciated the doggy-friendly policies. Only difficulty is that there is no/very limited cell coverage and no landline which can be a complicating factor for some. Still, there is internet access once you arrive! Thanks for a great weekend!

Ferociously Fabulous Home

  • 5 of 5

We had such a GREAT time at the Caspar Coast House. This most excellent home was beautiful, clean and well appointed with fabulous art everywhere! It really suited our eclectic tastes, and had everything we needed. Especially since the one restaurant we picked out, was closed because the owners had "gone fishing" :-) No worries though, great market in Mendocino had wonderful ingredients and we were able to cook a scrumptious dinner at home. Hot tub room is excellent! Central location to go exploring the beautiful coast.

Very happy

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful vacation for a week at this home. There were 10 people and plenty of room for everyone. The house had everything we needed since we ate our dinners at home and the kitchen was well equipped. The kids enjoyed playing outside and everyone enjoyed the hot tub. We were very satisfied and will return again. Thank you
