An amazing Fathers Day weekend for me and my daughter - first time out of the city since the pandemic began and Janet & Don's place was the perfect respite.
Its a very nice 2 bedroom cottage/house in a sparsely populated subdivision just outside of Guilford. The backyard abuts a beautiful marsh; the birdsong is constant, and lots of rabbits and squirrels to watch. There is a grill and table in the back, lots of thoughtful benches and seats around the property to enjoy. I loved having my coffee in the front screened in porch. Its about a 20 minute walk into town, past an old graveyard that's worth a diversion, and Guilford is a gorgeous place to stroll through, window shop, eat.
The cottage itself is really clean, pleasant to hang out in. Its small, but there is a dining room area, two living rooms, so for the 2 of us it felt spacious, and there are little nooks and crannies to read in and chill out. The beds are very comfortable, one queen and then 2 twins in the other bedroom. Could definitely have more people stay comfortable.
A couple of considerations, depending on your vacationing preferences. The nearby beach (beach pass available) is not all that nice, if you are a real beachgoer. The state park that's about 20 mins away (Hammnaset or something?) is supposed to be lovely, but we couldn't get in before it was full (Covid rules) and a lot of beaches in CT are private, so plan accordingly. If you are sensitive to animals, the downstairs TV room will remind you a dog lives here sometimes. Finally, its cozy and quaint, super clean and lovely, but its not "fancy" - just a great summer hang out.
The owners were very responsive, helpful, and flexible, but also not at all overbearing. Clear instructions printed in the house. Easy no-touch check-in. They made us feel like it was our place for the couple of days we were here. Great place and we hope to come back.
