About the host
Hosted by Essie Hayes
We are North Carolina natives with family ties to Montana going back 70 years. A group of young Tarheels, all war veterans,, came west looking for better jobs in the booming timber industry. Some couldn't take it and headed back east. Some died here before they could choose whether to stay or go.
The "JA" in "DA-JA View" was fathered by a wonderful, hard-working gentleman who survived 10 long years here working in an industry and in weather, and living in conditions, that were nothing less than brutal. JAne started school here in Livingston just down the road in Paradise Valley when 2-room schoolhouses were still the norm. Her "alma mater" still stands and has been renovated into a nice little house on Old Yellowstone Road.
In the late 1990's, JAne and her side of the family made a trip west which included a Livingston. BOOM! She decided it was time to reestablish here. I was skeptical to say the least. My family made 2 cross-country treks in the 60's which skirted north and south of here (why, Dad?). Think National Lampoon's "Vacation" on steroids. I had skied virtually every major Rocky Mountain slope (except Big Sky, ironically). BUT I had never been to Yellowstone Country. BOOM! I was hooked. At that time, the great land rush for vacation home property was just beginning. But we found out quickly that most of the prime building spots were already gone. After months of commuting and futility looking for the "right" place, we got lost and traveled up what is now our road. It was the wrong direction for the property we were actually looking for. But it was actually fate, luck, or Divine Providence steering us in the perfect direction.
Were it not for a twist of fate, DA-JA View would have never come to be. JAne's father is gone now, but he was able to visit here on several occasions. He approved, but was astounded by what Livingston had become. DA-JA View proudly stands as part of his legacy.
You will agree this is Heaven on Earth. And the Last Best Place.

Why they chose this property
Pay close attention to location when looking through the listings for your Livingston/Paradise Valley vacation rental. You will see that most are in the Valley. That's OK and there certainly are views everywhere.
But if you would rather be UP looking out and down over the Valley rather than DOWN in the Valley looking up at mountains (like the one we're on), your choices become limited. Mountainside properties overlooking the Valley are scarce. And usually outrageously expensive.
Even though we're up and away, It's a quick trip up or down our road from or to the main highway. As you travel on our private road, you will be going through a huge horse ranch. You will pass a few homes, but the journey is as beautiful as the destination. You will likely see deer or other wildlife along the way, so be careful.
The value of the location of DA-JA View cannot be overstated. The sensation of sheer spaciousness are incredible - even at night! The grandeur of rainbows, sunsets, sunrises and thunderstorms are magnified. The sound of trains in the distance as you sit on our decks, patios, or porches is unforgettable.
We found the land by accident after we got lost trying to find another property. Once you see the view, you will understand why it was love at first sight. There is no spot on earth quite like DA-JA View.
We're minutes from town. 35 minutes from BZN airport. 50 minutes north of Gardiner, the northern entrance to Yellowstone National Park. Six minutes or so from Rosa's, the best pizza in Montana. And maybe 10 minutes from Mark's In & Out which has been serving legendary burgers and shakes for over 60 years.
We rent DA-JA View at a rate comparable the the Valley rentals. But that is where the comparison ends.
Compare location, space, amenities, and rates. No Yellowstone Country property beats DA-JA View.
Yellowstone Country should be on everyone's bucket list. This is Montana's Paradise Valley, the Last Best Place.
