About the property

3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath (Sleeps 6)

Enjoy awesome views and private beach access to Sakonnet River from this newly renovated three bedroom cottage. This cozy inviting home has modern amenities and classical nautical, comfortable decor. Bedrooms sleep up to six, with an additional comfortable sleeper sofa in the living space. All living spaces contain refurbished and new hard wood flooring. In keeping with the classical summer cottage design two bedrooms have partition walls.

The kitchen has new tile, seashell window coverings and washer and dryer. There is a combination of charming antique furniture and modern cabinetry. The kitchen also features a spectacular water view and opens directly to a screened in porch with a splendid seating area perfect for morning coffee; offering an additional 424 square feet of living area.

Features & Amenities: Settle into the gorgeous master bedroom complete with plenty of storage, high-end queen size bed, Egyptian cotton linens, custom selected art and accessories.

Relax and enjoy the second bedroom which offers a new queen size bed with cotton linens, plenty of storage and cozy atmosphere. Custom selected art and fine wood furnishings, rustic wood paneling and seaside window coverings.

One of the best-kept secrets in this comfortable cottage is the third bedroom. This wonderful bedroom defines cozy. It features an antique armoire from one of the 'Newport Mansions'. Quiet and private with a new queen size bed, the room has a whimsical nautical theme including seashell window coverings; sailboat quilt bed spread and specially selected sailboat artwork.

Most attractive of all is the open living space with two stoves including one, which is wood burning. Flooring is refurbished wood and accented by wonderful seaside window coverings. The table and charming chairs seat eight. The living area also has exquisite water views and direct access to the large screened in porch.

The large screened in porch offers multiple seating perfect for entertaining or a romantic dinner. It also offers exquisite views and great cross ventilation. Walk to the private beach access in less than 50 yards down private concrete stairs. The beach is rocky. So we recommend wearing water shoes.

This wonderful vacation home is located right on the river and is just a short drive to many great beaches and a five star golf course. Perfect for boaters; the home is located right around the corner from a full service marina. Enjoy beautiful sunsets, uncrowned beaches, and close proximity to the historic city of Newport, Rhode Island. Relax on the screened in porch and watch the sailboats, or head out to the yard just feet from the bay and walk to your own beach. A perfect rental for one to three couples or a family of one to eight. The sofa in the great room easily converts to a bed for extra guests. Located in a quiet centrally located residential neighborhood with plenty of parking.

About Jesse Luis

This wonderful cottage has been in my family for over 50 years. I would spend every summer here as a youth. We would haul all of our summer clothes and some appliances (including the TV) to the cottage. It inspired me as a young person and still does today.

Jesse Luis purchased this bungalow in 1955

Why Jesse Luis chose Portsmouth

It is a beautiful combination of old world cottage bungalow still with modern conveniences. With a great location in a wonderful neighborhood.

What makes this bungalow unique

The cottage has its own beach and is close the Brewer Sakonnet Marina and Montaup Country Club.

Great house, location, and owners

  • 5 of 5

While it was a short stay being only 4 days, we really enjoyed our time. Very nice house with AC and internet for the kids. Great location with short drives to Bristol and Newport. And finally, the owners were a pleasure to deal with. Overall, a great experience.

Wonderful views right on the water.

  • 5 of 5

Our plan was a last-minute stay by the water in Portsmouth Rhode Island. The owner of the property is very accommodating to our plan. We really enjoyed staying in this fully restored, typical New England Cottage. The location is very convenient because beautiful beaches are only 10 miles away along with Twilight Zone historic Newport. We would definitely stay there again. It was a really fun stay.

Peaceful and Clean

  • 5 of 5

Cottage was exactly what I was looking for! It was peaceful and clean. Great porch and yard with plenty of seating to enjoy the view and the cool spring breeze. Beds were comfortable and kitchen came complete with a washer and dryer. Couldn’t have been more perfect. Owners were quick to respond and very kind.

Pretty Good Place

  • 4 of 5

This was a cute and quaint property built in 1938, quite rustic. What we liked: Comfortable and clean, fairly new kitchen and bathroom, great water pressure, roomy screened-in porch, adorably sloping great room (original?) hardwood floor, great neighborhood for an early morning run - lots of bunnies! What we didn't like: we couldn't tell from the description or the photos that two of the bedrooms are actually part of the great room, with walls that only go up to 8 feet or so, so no sound privacy except for the third, small bedroom; very limited counter space; no dishwasher, close neighbors, limited view. It could use an upholstered chair/loveseat in addition to the couch for rainy days.

On the Property and Third Beach

Founded in 1638, Portsmouth is said to be the first town in the nation established by a woman (Anne Hutchinson), and, according to many, is America's first true democracy. The Portsmouth Compact of 1638 marks the first authentic guarantee of civil and religious freedom in the New World. Encompassing almost 60 square miles, Portsmouth is comprised of more water than land. Surrounded by the Ocean State's proud marine heritage, Brewer Sakonnet Marina is in the heart of it all. Nearby Newport is famous for America's Cup sailing, the Naval War College, the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, and the Museum of Yachting. The town of Portsmouth is also home to many renowned yacht builders, while four of the state's top five boat dealers are located in town. Brewer Sakonnet Marina’s peaceful, protected location provides a safe and convenient port for cruisers. Whether exploring Narragansett Bay or cruising to nearby Newport, Fall River, Block Island, Cuttyhunk and Buzzards Bay, there are plenty of ideal weekend getaways. By dinghy, the Kickamuit River's gunk holes and inlets provide endless opportunity for exploring. Wine lovers will appreciate the coastal vineyards located throughout the region, as well. By land, Portsmouth is only 20 miles from Providence, and 10 miles from Fall River. Nearby T. F. Greene Airport in Warwick serves eight major airlines, while Logan Airport in Boston accommodates flights around the world Just two miles away, the Newport State Airport provides service to executive jets and charter flights. Portsmouth, Rhode Island.

Newport and Providence are 30 minutes away. It is 25 minutes to the ferry landing for Martha's Vineyard in New Bedford. 40 minutes to Narragansett. And, a very quaint place we never miss is Wickford. It has shopping, restaurants and is very nice to walk around.
