About Margaret (Maggie) Stone
We moved here from the Dallas area to decompress. When the cabin next lot over became available, we purchased it to have a nice place for friends and family. We decided to open it up for rental in 2009 and have met some wonderful, interesting folks along the way.
Margaret (Maggie) Stone purchased this Cabin in 2008
Why Margaret (Maggie) Stone chose Comfort
We wanted a "get away". Away from traffic, city noise, light pollution... A place to watch the deer and birds. We have 12 acres for the guest house. We live on another 5 acres next lot over. It's a great place to just exhale.
What makes this Cabin unique
No busy streets or sirens. No light pollution. Horseshoes in the front yard. Two firepits. Great place to just "look off" but close enough (15 min) to town for great food and great of antiques! Conveniently located 45 min to San Antonio, 20 min to Boerne, 30 min to Kerrville and 40 min to Fredericksburg.

Quaint and Quiet get away from it all
The property is clean and comfortable! The owners have thought about everything you need for a relaxing and peaceful stay
Great getaway, awesome experience!
This place feels a bit like a mountain chalet. Perched on the side of a hilltop, with a deck overlooking miles of Texas hill country, it is the perfect way to get away from it all! The owners ensure you have all the amenities you need, and then leave you in peace. At the same time, they are extremely responsive if you have questions or need recommendations for local activities. It is nice and secluded - a 10 minute drive to town. Be aware that biking or running in this area will include some serious hill work. That said, there are lots of nearby areas for enjoying the outdoors. Recommend the nearby Flat Rock Ranch for mountain biking, LBJ Ranch for local history, and Fredericksburg for shopping. Oh! There are wineries everywhere! There is one on the way up the hill to the house!
Fun getaway in Texas Hill Country
We took a 5 day trip to this little gem with our two large dogs in July.
This property was perfect for us and the pups. There is plenty to explore around the house and we found a great local park for the dogs to have daily river swimming adventures. It is called James Kiehl Park and it is only ~15 min from the house.
As a past reviewer mentioned, there are cacti and sharp burrs on the property itself so we checked their paws frequently but didn't have any issues with cuts or thorns. They have a large kennel (100 lb lab/shepherd fit with plenty of room) inside as well as a big multi-dog large kennel outside. It was super hot outside, so we didn't use the outside one at all. There is lots of nature outside - deer and armadillo came to visit us almost every evening, so if your dogs aren't used to it, I'd suggest keeping them leashed.
The accommodations are terrific, the house is stocked with every tool you might need to cook a full dinner. The house is cozy but comfortable and very well maintained. It was super hot outside during our stay so the window AC had some trouble keeping up with the scorching temperatures. During the day, the upstairs master bedroom gets toasty but we were out exploring / traveling so it wasn't an issue. The dog kennel is downstairs right by 2 AC units, so it stays nice and cool if you need to leave your dogs at home during a wine tour etc. In the evenings, the AC keeps it nice and cool - but it is fairly noisy.
The best part was a patio with an incredible view. We did daily breakfast and dinner out there, as well as star gazing later on at night. At least 2 spots to do an open fire for s'mores as well as a propane grill for steaks!
Maggie was a wonderful host, she was easy to contact but also kindly gave us lots of privacy to enjoy her beautiful property. We are excited to come back in the future.
The town is cute but our trip was Monday-Friday, so town felt a bit deserted until Thursday when the weekend crowd came through. When we weren't cooking for ourselves, we drove into Fredericksburg for dinner and drinks because there were much more options.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! If the owners' children weren't coming to stay the day of our departure, we would have stayed longer. We'll be back.
We loved these two!!! What a kick. Such a joy to visit with. If we ever decide to sell the property, I'm calling these folks!! I want them as neighbors!
This house is cozy, with a beautiful view from the balcony. The drive up to it is amazing as well. Maggie, the owner, was extremely helpful throughout, and her directions were spot on. It has all the amenities you'd expect of a house, from a full kitchen, to wi-fi, a smart TV (so you can watch Netflix, Amazon, etc.), and DirectTV.
The house is about a five to ten minute drive from downtown Comfort, and not even thirty minutes from Fredericksburg (the drive there is really pretty). My girlfriend and I were blown away by how nice the house and the scenery were; we'll definitely stay again. We highly recommend it!
Regarding Comfort, make sure you go to the 814 Bistro and also Comfort Pizza. Both have great food, and the prices aren't astronomical.
If I could give our stay ten stars instead of five, I would.
Beautiful and recharging
Margarite and Greg were so incredibly sweet and thought of everything. They responded quickly during our stay as well with questions we had. The house was so cute with such a beautiful view and everything we needed to function. We enjoyed a little hike, riding through the gravel windy roads with our boys, playing outside with our golden doodle and having a campfire for s’mores!! It was a sweet time as a family! They even had a abortle of wine for us as we were celebrating our 16th wedding anniversary. Totally going again!!
Additional information about rental rates
It will be important to give us your traveling cell number should we need to contact you in route. The road traveled in towards the property does not require 4 wheel drive but is in fact a caliche road with a hill to get to this hilltop paradise! Cars and trucks of all sizes have made it here with no problem, however we want you to be prepared. All dogs must be kept on a leash when out of the house. We have abundant wildlife and their curiosity will have them in pursuit down the hill to who knows where! THE HILL IS NOW PAVED!! WOOHOO! BUT IT'S STILL STEEP. Small pet fee of $15 per pet.
